Constant Vigilance
By Kim Rossi
14 years ago, I went to court to protect my youngest daughter, who had been abused on the school bus several times by a 23 year old bus aide named Jennifer Davila whose mother Evelyn Guzman drove the bus while texting and laughing at my daughter. I heard her on surveillance tape, "Better get this one home first before she sh*ts herself." (My daughter never had an accident on the bus.)
I dragged the two of them the mud they made with every breath I took. CNN? Covered it. MSNBC? All over it. Local media? Check. Huffington Post? Heck yes. Today Show? Why not? I had a petition with 4,000 signatures from around the world in my hands in 72 hours before Guzman's court date. Even the folks we sparred with daily about autism got in touch with me to defend my daughter and express their horror. It was a rare moment of teamwork in our community.
The court expunged Guzman's record claiming first offense. Her daughter Jennifer Davila has a felony record that will follow her for life.
Constant vigilance. Never ending worry. That's autism for most of us. Not the chirpy nonsense blanketing social media. Remember that. Thank you.
Kim-I remember what happened to your daughter several years ago, being abused on the bus by a monster monitor. You fought back and glad to hear that Jennifer Davila will have a felony record for the rest of her life. I have read about many terrible incidents like this in schools, on the buses, and even at day programs, and group homes. We all must be constantly on the alert to protect our sons and daughters on the spectrum from these evil people who all should never have been hired!

Well done Kim.I know of two parents who had similar nightmares but on both occasions signed a non disclosure areement so the papers never get wind of it and your citizens never find out the truth.

So sad your daughter went through this. Way to defend her and stand up for her. Goodness, who are these monsters the school districts hire??
About 5-6 years ago when our Sam was in 7th or 8th grade a substitute paraprofessional was assigned to his classroom. The para was rough with Sam, too rough! the Principal called us and said the para had been fired!. I wish I had insisted that criminal charges be brought against him. So this monster could never work in a school again!
Blessings to all and keep up the good fight!.
