The Island of Misfit Toys from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer has always resonated with me, when I think of our kids with autism. Even Among Misfits, We're Misfits was the title of a HuffPo I wrote, long deleted from their site because I  must have mentioned vaccines. The classic Rankin and Bass stop action TV show popped into my mind immediately this weekend when I heard that Robert Kennedy, Jr. is going to make an announcement on October 9, in the nation’s cradle of liberty, Philadelphia. The city of brotherly love.

His party has no love for him and no place for him. It appears that he is going to run not as a Democrat, but as, to quote Hermey the dentist from Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer, an In-Dee-Pen-Dent. Our readers come from all walks of life, and cross the range of political beliefs. We respect that. And we do not endorse candidates. No President has lived up to promises to the autism community. Few have bothered with us at all. Hardliners in both parties are unlikely to cross party lines vote for the “other” party. The primary process also poses a barrier. But, if a candidate who can draw from both parties runs as an Independent, it might help resolve feelings of party “betrayal.” What are your thoughts? And who will have the red nose on the ticket?
