Connecticut: “The growing needs of students”

Abadnonned schoolNote: Anne Dachel has been cataloging thousands of stories from around the globe that discuss the decline of pediatric health and the impact on education systems. Schools are staggered by the percentages of students with serious mental health, special needs and health issues. Budgets are being stretched thin in an attempt to educate a population never before seen - chronically ill and unwell children from preschool forward. Connecticut: “The growing needs of students”

Sheridan Roy, staff reporter at the Southington Observer clearly has a limited view of the coming collapse of education in her state.

Here was the title of her Dec 27th piece: While school populations decline, special needs are on the rise.

(The story covered a recent presentation at a school board meeting by two special education coordinators.)

Reporter Roy told readers that the increase in special education numbers is part of  “the national trend of growing needs that the school system must meet for its students….”

The fact that the PRESCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM IS INCREASING should be worth exploring, but nothing more was said about it. In fact, not once did she venture to say anything about why MORE KIDS ARE IN SPECIAL EDUCATION, while the overall student population is declining. “

Here’s what the special ed coordinator told the board: ‘Our data has indicated that preschool [sped] enrollment is increasing. It has also indicated that our programs are nearing or are at capacity.’

Roy continued,

“…that prevalence rate is increasing, too. Essentially, the number of students needing to be placed in special education programs is on the rise—especially students with autism spectrum disorder.”

Here’s the jaw-dropping fact revealed by the sped head:

‘Since 2013, the number of students with autism spectrum disorder has increased by 36.6%.’

THERE WAS NOT ONE WORD TO EXPLAIN THIS NIGHTMARE INCREASE or why they expect it to keep growing.

An official even admitted, ‘The issues that students have to come to us with have become more complex over the years.’

STILL there was no attempt to explain why it’s happening.

We were told about what the district is doing, which should alert us to just how extensive the problem is.

The programs provided include one from birth to three, one for kids four and five, one for kindergarten to second grade, and one for third to fifth. There’s one for six to eight, and finally several programs for high school and beyond.

The article then focused on THE COST, which is the one issue that the board can’t avoid looking into.

While no figures were given, these kids are one huge expense for the district and it’s about autism, as the increase mentioned shows. Just like in Britain where they’re building autism schools in every borough, it seems, the board in Southington acknowledged that keeping these kids within the district was a big saving, despite the current cost.

Here’s how the superintendent explained it:

‘We have to meet the needs of our students, but without these programs, we would be paying for them to be in placements out of our district.

‘There are significant savings that have to be realized by the town because these folks have put these programs in place for students.’

And it’s not just autism, as we learn. ‘The autism spectrum disorder is only one area,…’

More and more we’re conditioned to merely accept more and more learning disabled children flooding our schools. No one ventures to ask where they’re all coming from, or what we’ll do if the increases continue. This is a recipe for disaster.

Similar out west in California.
Kindergarten enrollment down, autism up.

Year, K_Enroll, Autism

1138 more cases of kindergarten autism with lower enrollment, no wonder the schools are struggling to keep up. Does anyone know how many measles deaths occurred in California in this time period ?

In response to 'The growing needs of children'...there are other variables and facts not mentioned which have added to the increase in CT's "Special Ed" statistic and cost: 1) Response to Intervention RTI or SRBI in some states-- added during onset of Common Core. RTI is the bandaid to Common Core; developmentally inappropriate academics pushed onto the children who haven't by Child Development norms matured to a specific mental and developmental point. Not allowed to. Example: CT Johnny, 4 years, 7 months is tested to determine if can read all the letters of the alphabet -- forced to read the letters of the alphabet at 4 years, 7 mo.
Before common core, his parent would have just enrolled him in 1/2 day Kindergarten. now he is unable to read the letters and considered by the RTI testing that he is in need of special services. And that is going to cost two-fold: Johnny should just be allowed to develop naturally, and the child who validly has a Special Ed diagnosis will is in the same population -- additional children in the school under the same Special Ed umbrella. Johnny should not be in this statistic. Johnnys should be allowed to grow at their own pace. Common core needs to be removed and RTI with it - causing stress and anxiety on our children;
2) 'Birth to 3' programs which similarly to RTI, have for some an unrealistic developmental maturation test -- catching up some children who should be allowed to grow and learn at their pace, but put into a Common Cored school cannot.
David Elkind's book 'The Hurried Child' was written before I was in grad school, but partially the script for the largest ill in public education - Common Core - hurrying a child to learn academics and also non-academic well before they are mentally mature enough for the materials.
As a former school counselor, parent of three, and intermittent attendee to my local BoE meetings, many of these points are evident, yet not considered for correction. Local residents and BoF's need to know to consider these points this year - 2020.

So as we consider the population of Special Education students let's also remove those who can grow and develop on their own, reducing financial and emotional costs, and allow those diagnosed with Autism and other Special Ed diagnoses able to get what they do need. Local residents need to work with BoE's and BoF's to know how to best figure their public education system

This has been my experience as well. When I ask what people think is the cause of all these mental and physical health issues, no one will even respond!

As a homeopath, I am very interested in what other people's opinions are on this as it could be helpful for me and my clients, but...crickets.

Wow, Mr Moffit, that is shocking about the ads targeting Hassidic Jews.

Dr. William H. Gaunt

It is so frustrating to clearly see this unfolding disaster and not be able to stop it. I think victories in court similar to the Monsanto verdict will be the turning point. God bless and God speed RFK Jr. and the others who are fighting this battle for all of us.

Connecticut also has a troubling outbreak of mumps .. as reported here:

University of Connecticut identifies three cases of mumps

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Health officials at the University of Connecticut said Friday they’ve identified three cases of mumps in students enrolled in the fall 2019 semester and attending classes on the main campus in Storrs.

In a message sent to employees and students, the UConn Student Health and Wellness said there was no increased risk for students at UConn’s regional campuses, UConn Law or UConn Health.

All UConn students are required to have received two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella or MMR vaccine, which provides protection against the mumps virus, in order to attend classes. Mumps is a viral infection that’s spread through infected respiratory droplets, like sneezing or coughing. The infection is not usually dangerous, but it can be painful"

Jeepers I was relieved to learn .. unlike all the scaremongering on any isolated "deadly" case of measles … "mumps infection is NOT USUALLY DANGEROUS, BUT CAN BE PAINFUL"

According to the CDC .. between January 1 to December 6, 2019, 48 states* and the District of Columbia in the U.S. reported mumps infections in 3,252** people to CDC.

It must be me .. but … I did not know there were 3,252 MUMPS cases in 48 states .. the ONLY outbreak I heard and read of constantly throughout the year was MEASLES .. who knew measles cases were less than half of mumps cases this year????

NYS is experiencing a noticeable increase in anti-Semitic "hate crimes" coincidentally following an entire summer of NYS politicians DEMONIZING the Hassidic communities for exercising their "religious exemption" to vaccines for their children .. in one particularly offensive and vicious ad in Rockland County .. a Hassidic man in traditional Hassidic garb is viewed entering an elevator .. swirling about this Hassidic man are images of GERMS .. which stay in the elevator after Hassidic man leaves the elevator … exposing ANYONE WHO THEN ENTERS THAT NOW GERM INFESTED ELEVATOR EXPOSED TO VACCINE PREVENTABLE DISEASES. This ad was so anti-Semitic it reminded me instantly of Nazi Germany where Hitler has similarly DEMONIZED JEWS AS GERM INFESTED CARRIERS OF DISEASE.

Went on all summer long .. resulting in NYS gov, NYC Mayor, Rockland Co Supervisor proudly removing all "religious exemptions" to vaccines … especially among the same TARGETED communities the resulting "hate crimes" are occurring. Coincidence? Maybe but then again .. maybe not a coincidence.
