Thinking of changing careers? Have we got a job for you! Are you up for a "fascinating role"? You'll need a naturally collaborative workstyle - except with anyone who questions vaccine safety, then you will need to be a big old git. Hob nob with none other than Bill Gates! Push vaccines on unsuspecting families in low income countries while they go hungry and lack clean water and sanitation. You might even become obsequious, purple and CLAIRVOYANT* as GAVI already knows it has "PREVENTED 10 MILLION FUTURE DEATHS!" Golly gee, I guess the company car is a DeLorean!!! GAVI is hiring a chief of staff!
Gavi is a public-private partnership committed to save lives and protect people’s health by increasing equitable and sustainable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. The Vaccine Alliance brings together developing country and donor governments, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, technical agencies, civil society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other private sector partners. Since 2000, Gavi has contributed to the immunisation of nearly 700 million children and the prevention of more than 10 million future deaths.
The Chief of Staff to the Chief Executive of Gavi is a critical and fascinating role. This is an opportunity to work at the heart of the world’s most innovative funder of vaccination and immunization, as it implements an exciting new strategy. The Chief of Staff provides strategic support to Seth Berkley, the CEO. S/he ensures seamless coordination within the Executive Office of Gavi, and between it and the wider senior team. The Chief of Staff also oversees Gavi’s risk function and leadership engagement with external stakeholders.
Candidates will bring acute intellect and analytical capability, excellent communication skills, and a naturally collaborative working style. They will personify the combination of urgency and accuracy which is the hallmark of Gavi. A familiarity with the global development landscape will be helpful, and global public health experience an advantage.
* Readers old enough and too young must listen to this classic from Martin's GET SMALL album with the lyric, "Be obsequious, purple and clairvoyant." Why, this song could be the job description!
