Doctors Paid to Overprescribe Humira Despite Deadly Side Effects. Sound Familar?
Note: With articles like this, you'd think the average American, even the slowest slug in town, would be able to wrap his or her head around the fact the doctors are overprescribing vaccinations with even less knowledge of side effects than with the drug Humira. Oh I know you don't need an Rx for a Vx. Might be better if you did. EEEEEEveryone can get EEEEEvery vaccine! No matter how disgusting pharmaceutical companies are found to be - Americans refuse flat out to believe vaccines have problems associated with them. Like causing an autism diagnosis.
I have an OLD competing interest - I used to work for a Philly promotions company that made chotchkes and gifts and luxe goodies for Pfizer and other pharma companies. I presented diamond earrings for a VIOXX promotion. Ain't that rich? If I 'd stayed in sales there instead of dropping out of the workforce to take care of my then 1 daughter with autism, I'd probably be rich too. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Pharmaceutical giant AbbVie illegally plied doctors with cash, gifts and services to prescribe one of the world’s best-selling drugs, Humira, despite its potentially deadly complications, a California official said in a lawsuit filed Tuesday.
The lawsuit by the state’s insurance commissioner accuses the company of a far-reaching kickback scheme that led doctors to write more prescriptions for the drug, tainting their relationship with patients and driving up insurance costs. It’s likely patients were prescribed Humira because of the kickbacks provided by AbbVie and not because it was the best medication to treat them, California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones said on a conference call announcing the lawsuit.
“Ultimately, AbbVie gambled with the health and safety of thousands of Californians’ lives, including children, by making sure patients continued to take Humira at any cost, all to protect their profits not the health and well-being of patients,” Jones said.
Humira is an injectable drug that is widely advertised as a treatment for rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions and comes with a warning for cancer and serious infections that can turn deadly. It had sales of over $12 billion in 2017, according to the lawsuit. Read more here.
One can compare the blight on humanity known as Humira (AbbVie) to the Las Vegas shooting in 2017 by Stephen Paddock. In that incident random people were murdered; similarly random users of Humira face death on a daily basis.
I was inclined to ignore AbbVie as a nest of idiots because of their mispronunciation of their own product in their TV ads. It seems no one in the marketing part of AbbVie has more than a second grade education: in the second grade we learn phonetic pronunciation. But AbbVie ads ALWAYS pronounce the syllable “mir” [Hu-mir-a] as in “merry” [Hu-mer-a] rather than as in “mirror.”
Then I discovered that 12,237 deaths were associated with Humira, according to the Federal Adverse Events Reporting System (FAERS), as of March, 2019. It seems that if you use Humira, you can expect fatal results. If you escape death, you will have a lowered ability to fight infections; you may contract tuberculosis or cancer, also blood and liver problems, and new or worsening heart failure—to name a few of the risks. [Any of these concomitant problems may lead to death.]
With the preceding in mind, I have concluded that AbbVie is not a nest of idiots, but rather a malicious gang of killers, and should be in prison. At the very least, should be legally barred from manufacturing and selling this murderous drug.

Sure I'm risking my life by taking humira.... Crohn's nearly killed me... I lost nearly 50 lbs in 2 weeks due to inflamation of my colon (if you can't poop, you can't eat), and was passing stool and blood in my urine due to a fistula from my colon to my bladder.... Now after a major emergency surgery I have a colostomy on my belly and am gradually returning to relative health... Humira is a life saver for me and with any luck I'll be in remission and heal enough to have another major surgery in 6 months to remove damaged tissue, repair the fistula, and reconnect my colon so I can use a toilet again and after a couple more months return to work after @ 1 year without income....
There ARE serious risks but I also have a comparable risk of developing cancer from untreated chron's disease....
There is definitely a huge evil business side to human medicine but it's not PURE evil.... this humira (and other similar drugs) is nothing short of a miracle drug for LOTS of people who otherwise would have little to no hope for a normal life....

My young clean living friend started Humira 1 year before she died of pancreatic cancer. The physician said she had it 6 months. Died in her early 40's. Took the meds for rheumatoid arthritis. Sad. I see this drug advertised every other commercial for every ailment you can think of. Sorry, humans... $$$ None of your lives matter.

Bernedetta - I hate to tell you this but the symptoms that are labelled with scary medical labels like 'strep infections' and 'pneumonia' are not medical problems they are malnutritional problems. Once the offending items in one's food stream are eliminated, there will be no more ;strep' or 'pneumonia'.

Some public health doctors/drug reps seem willing to flirt with killing some kids in the name of herd immunity. Some other doctors/reps seem willing to flirt with taking out herd immunity and maybe killing you in the process... but in public they all seem to get along just fine, except with those trying to promote informed consent...

How did we get here (speaking here of how Pharma got to be so profitable in the U.S.)?
In a word, Monopoly.
Allopathic medicine was given a virtual monopoly through medical licensing (of doctors, hospitals, therapeutics). Pharmaceuticals are given more monopolies through their patents. Allopathic medicine strengthened its monopoly by getting government programs and insurance to reimburse only licensed practitioners. And research money only goes to licensed practitioners.
How do we get out of this place? The only practical way I know of is through market forces, by patients opting out of the pharmaceutical products, to the extent possible.

it's obvious Humira and other DRUGS are a real BOON to the economy!....

My children's peds five of them under one shingle in our town; did like to talk business with me. I don't know what it was about me that brought out such candor from them?
Yeah, they are a greedy bunch. They are involved with children you know. The population of humans that probably required the least care, and they took that group and turned that all around and upside down.
I had to have them for years to have quick access to antibiotics from all the pneumonia and strep infections that my kids had even up into late teens. They did good financially, but now they are old and facing the real and final judgement.
