Caption Contest: Lesions! Buttocks! Autism! MMR! What??
Honestly, I think this contest would have made Dan Olmsted howl. Adriana Gamondes came up with the graphic and we need YOU to provide the thought bubble caption in our comments. The winner receives a case of Desitin and a pack of rubber gloves. Lipkin and Hornig are "autism/vaccine" scientists. The lesions may be on the brain, not just the buttocks.... I'll put my entry in the comments too. KIM
From the NY Post:
A Columbia University scientist claims her boss — and former lover — repeatedly dropped his drawers and demanded she diagnose a lesion on his butt.
Associate Professor Mady Hornig says her boss at the university’s Mailman School of Public Health also demanded co-credit for her work; kicked her under the table at meetings to keep her from speaking; presented her work as his own, and kept her from getting tenure, Hornig claims in a Manhattan federal court lawsuit.
In 2014, Professor Walter Ian Lipkin, head of the Center for Infection & Immunity, called Hornig into his office and “demanded that she look at lesions on his buttocks,” Hornig alleges. He did so again a year later, Hornig charges.
Hornig is suing the school, claiming Lipkin has ruined her reputation.
Nothing to see here butt my assbergers.

@nhokkanen
Not to mention that in the heart of paper was the statement which directly conflicted with its conclusion:
"Our results differ with reports noting MV RNA in ileal biopsies of 75% of ASD vs. 6% of control children... Discrepancies are unlikely to represent differences in experimental technique because similar primer and probe sequences, cycling conditions and instruments were employed in this and earlier reports; furthermore, one of the three laboratories participating in this study performed the assays described in earlier reports. Other factors to consider include differences in patient age, sex, origin (Europe vs. North America), GI disease, recency of MMR vaccine administration at time of biopsy, and methods for confirming neuropsychiatric status in cases and controls."

At the risk of stating the obvious, the commenters’ captions here are cathartic for those who’ve felt betrayed by Mady Hornig’s research shift after her 2004 Thimerosal mouse study.
Particularly maddening is 2008’s “Lack of Association between Measles Virus Vaccine and Autism with Enteropathy” (done with Ian Lipkin), which AofA UK editor John Stone described as “absurdly small and absurdly delayed.” Advocates at Safeminds stated, “The Hornig study… does not rule out an acute MMR effect in a subset.”
Kent Heckenlively, J.D. devoted an entire chapter to the Hornig/Lipkin team in his recent book “Inoculated: How Science Lost Its Soul in Autism.” Heckenlively critiqued Hornig and Lipkin’s research on the MMR vaccine and autism, while noting “the simple flaws in their experiments which would be clear to anyone with a passing familiarity in scientific principles.”
CDC Senior Scientist Dr. William Thompson didn’t mince words about the Hornig/Lipkin measles study during a recorded interview with Dr. Brian Hooker. Dr. Thompson called that study “criminal,” stated several times that “It was the worst study ever,” and referred to Ian Lipkin as an “arrogant dick.”
Hornig’s legal filing describing high-level researchers’ power politics and lurid interactions rubs salt in the wounds of readers whose children suffered adverse vaccine reactions that led to the infamous “autism-like symptoms.” What they see is data falsified, research abandoned, and money diverted — while the body count grows.

@Barbara Fischkin "We believe he was hit with an environmental factor - and with bad timing. And that this exacerbated a genetic predisposition."
I believe this too Barbara. In my autistic grandson's case the 'environmental factor' was almost certainly the MMR vaccine, administered at a year old, when he was still recovering from a respiratory infection and on antibiotics. Three live viruses at once, administered to a still sick child, was an assault too far. My grandson, now in his twenties, is doing well at university. We will be forever grateful to Professors Walker-Smith and Murch at the Royal Free Hospital, London, whose therapeutic interventions and treatments , not only saved his damaged colon, but prescribed special diets helped with my grandson's speech and behaviour too.
Colleague Dr Wakefield, was not involved with my grandson's clinical care, but his public comments about MMR vaccine administration timing and dietary interventions should be taken seriously by medical establishments. Instead, simple vaccine administration guidelines and dietary advice are reviled and denigrated. Vaccinating sick children is ridiculous.
With all the hype, misinformation, and denigration of the 1998 Lancet Paper, co-authored by Dr Wakefield and 12 colleagues, you might be surprised to know Dr Wakefield also hypothesised a possible genetic link to children being damaged by vaccines containing live viruses:-
Ileal-lymphoid-nodular hyperplasia, non-specific colitis, and pervasive developmental disorder in children
Volume 351, Number 9103 28 February 1998 A J Wakefield, S H Murch, A Anthony, J Linnell, D M Casson, M Malik, M Berelowitz, A P Dhillon, M A Thomson, P Harvey, A Valentine, S E Davies, J A Walker-Smith
"A genetic predisposition to autistic-spectrum disorders is suggested by over-representation in boys and a greater concordance rate in monozygotic than in dizygotic twins.15 In the context of susceptibility to infection, a genetic association with autism, linked to a null allele of the complement (C) 4B gene located in the class III region of the major-histocompatibility complex, has been recorded by Warren and colleagues.24 C4B-gene products are crucial for the activation of the complement pathway and protection against infection: individuals inheriting one or two C4B null alleles may not handle certain viruses appropriately, possibly including attenuated strains."
Meanwhile, autism cases are still increasing worldwide, with all the stresses and strains this puts on economies, education and social care.

I spoke to Dr. Hornig about five years ago for my graduate research on autism. And I read her papers for a "literature review." She was helpful and generous with her time.
She's published on "three strikes and you are out" as cause: Genes, environmental toxicity and the timing of that toxicity. All important in the age of autism. My son has severe autism and is nonverbal. We believe he was hit with an environmental factor - and with bad timing. And that this exacerbated a genetic predisposition. A close relative has Asperger's and is extremely accomplished in the highest traditional realms of intelligence. There are other relatives on the Spectrum as well.
Dr. Hornig's research spoke to me as a scholar and as an autism mom. She is an autism mom, as well.
Women in academia have had many uphill battles. I believe her claims.
I'm not going to get into a prolonged discussion of this. I have said all I know I hope some will check out her research.

Put "Parents and Grandparents" on the guy's coat, and comment he's thinking is: "you call yourselves vaccine scientists? Kiss my ass!"

Hopefully the Lipkin-Hornig "Reign of Error" will soon come to an end. Good job, Age of Autism.

Sadly I have autism from the MMR . I am 36 years old and this is the 5th time in an hour I have pooped my pants , because that's what happens when you have autism. Would you mind changing me ma'am?
