Dr. Price may have ALEC ties that don't have to do with vaccine manufacturer mandate bills, if he has any such ties. I am not saying that he does have such ties. I haven't found any. The video provided by Linda1 features a glimpse of SC Gov. Nikki Haley, who despite being alluded to as being somehow associated with ALEC, actually vetoed a Gardasil mandate bill, even though it made its way to her desk from the rest of the state legislature. Interestingly, Congressman Bill Posey is an ALEC alumnus:
https://www.alec.org/about/alumni/

It's kind of fascinating that so many Republicans are members of ALEC, yet in California, it was the Democrats who rammed through SB277 by changing committee members, etc., and typically it is the Democrats in other states who tend to sponsor and push the vaccine mandate/vaccine exemption restriction bills. Of course, Women In Government is a big problem, too, when it comes to introducing bad, corporation-tainted legislation.

And look--- mandating HPV vaccines is on the list of things to accomplish:

WIG sponsors (GSK and PhRMA-- shocking, I know…. Merck tends to come and go as a sponsor.)

Here's the proof:
"Mobilizing Legislators, Stakeholders, and the Public. Merck mobilized legislators to introduce school-entry mandate and other legislation relating to the HPV vaccine, primarily through Women in Government (WIG), a national, nonprofit group of female state legislators. WIG had identified cervical cancer as a priority issue as early as 2003.[10] Merck contributed unrestricted educational grants to WIG, which, among other things, covered the expenses of dozens of legislators to attend conferences on cervical cancer at appealing destinations convened by WIG and attended by Merck representatives.[11]

In addition to hosting meetings at which legislators were briefed about HPV and Gardasil, WIG prepared reports on cervical cancer prevention efforts in the states, convened a task force to make policy recommendations, prepared a "legislative toolkit" containing model school-entry mandate legislation, and conducted outreach to interest groups and the media to build support for such legislation.[12,13] Members of WIG introduced many of the mandate bills considered across the country.[14]

Respondents were aware of the financial relationship between Merck and WIG. Some saw it as a natural affinity between 2 organizations with intersecting agendas, noting that Merck's grants to WIG were unrestricted and spending decisions were made by WIG's board. Others suspected that Merck had driven WIG's agenda rather than responding to it. One remarked, "WIG bit off hook, line, and sinker the need to have mandated this vaccination across America."

Respondents in every state commented on how effectively Merck prepared the political environment for the introduction of school-entry mandates and other legislation." This quote came from this:

Are your "Women In Government" pushing a HPV vaccine mandate bill in your state? In New Jersey, Asw. Pamela Lampitt sure is. And yes, she is a State Director for WIG. Another State Director for WIG in NJ, Asw. Shavonda Sumter, is sponsoring a Men B mandate bill for college students.

Sharon,
Then perhaps we are wrong about Tom Price.

Here's another article re ALEC:

http://www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/vaccine-rights-win-big-in-vermont/

"The vaccine industry went home with its tail between its legs after suffering an enormous and embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Vermont legislature last week.

The well monied effort by Big Pharma went down in flames with the defeat of S 199 which would have eliminated the right of Vermont parents to refuse vaccinations based on philosophical reasons.

S 199 was introduced by State Senator Bill Mullin who just happens to be the Vermont chairperson for the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). ALEC is a lobbying organization that works for the benefit of Big Business that provides it with its generous funding.

A complaint was recently filed against ALEC by Common Cause charging that the lobbying organization is evading Federal tax law by posing as a tax exempt charity all the while spending millions of dollars each year lobbying for hundreds of bills in state legislatures all across the United States.

In keeping with the ALEC modus operandi when pushing pet legislation, S 199 passed with dizzying speed in the Vermont Senate, but by the time it got to the Vermont House, parents had organized and started to fight back hard..."

I don't know much about ALEC, but when I googled it, this NVIC article came up:

http://www.nvic.org/NVIC-Vaccine-News/May-2012/americans-fight-for-vaccine-choices.aspx

..."S199 was introduced in the state Senate by Kevin Mullin, who is VT chair of the Pharma-funded American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC),20 and was introduced in the state House by Representative George Till, M.D., at the request of Harry Chen, M.D., Vermont’s Health Commissioner. Dr. Chen, who was a Vermont state representative and former chair of the Vermont House Health Care Committee for four years, has publicly downplayed vaccine risks..."

I don't understand, are you sure it's ALEC? go to their website and they sound so good! "ALEC Applauds Confirmation of the Next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Tom Price, M.D." Tom Price favors vaccine choice. They sound like the opposite of a group that would push this.

@ Hans Litten-
ALEC is behind these bills, and behind ALEC is pharma (and all other industries who want legislation passed in all states that will increase their profits and give them unfair advantages.) In many cases, legislation starts with bills that come straight from ALEC which then go straight to the offices of state legislators, seeking sponsorship, promotion, and passage (surely with the "unspoken" promise of re-election campaign cash.) These bills are not from "constituents," and they do not represent the will of the people.

Who is behind all of this ?
