Did Merck's Discontinuation of Monovalent M M R Lead to Measles Outbreaks?

MMR monovalent discontinued Immunmmization News
Back in 2009, Merck decided to cease production of 3 monovalent vaccines one for measles, one for mumps and one for rubella, instead focusing production on the MMR II vaccine.  By limiting product choice, parents who may very well have opted for a measles vaccine for their children were faced with the choice of taking the full MMR or not vaccinating.

In 2012, an Italian Court ruled that MMR had caused autism, and additional recent awards for vaccine-induced autism have come from Italian courts. Mary Holland covered this continuing story in Age of Autism earlier this month Recent Italian Court Decisions on Vaccines and Autism.

Two years earlier, on May 23, 2012, Judge Lucio Ardigo of an Italian court in Rimini presided over a similar judgment, finding that a different vaccine, the Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccine (MMR), had caused a child’s autism. As in the Milan case, the Ministry of Health’s compensation program had denied compensation to the family, yet after a presentation of medical evidence, a court granted compensation. There, too, the Italian press covered the story; the U.S. press did not.

In that case, a 15-month old boy received his MMR vaccine on March 26, 2004. He then immediately developed bowel and eating problems and received an autism diagnosis with cognitive delay within a year. The court found that the boy had “been damaged by irreversible complications due to vaccination (with trivalent MMR).” The decision flew in the face of the conventional mainstream medical wisdom that an MMR-autism link has been “debunked.”

Allison Chapman wrote a post for Age of Autism about Merck's decision to limit parental product choice back in 2009 (read the full post here.)

Your choice to work with your pediatrician on safer vaccine schedule has just received a very large blow.  Merck and Co. has decided to take away your option of separating the MMR, instead of getting the whole shebang at once.  Forget those who may be predisposed to not handling 3 viruses at once; you know the weak, the infant who may need a bit more time.  What if they are unable to take one of the viruses due to allergy of an ingredient, but have decided to go ahead with one or both of the others?  Well too bad, allergy or not you have lost your right to choose.  It’s now, all or nothing. (HERE)

I’m shocked at such a move.  Why on earth at a time when some Doctors are just barely beginning with work with their patient’s parents by creating a schedule per individual child, is Merck deciding to pull the plug?  Is this something they believe will quiet the supposed anti-vaccine crowd?  Quiet the MMR/Autism controversy?  I highly doubt it.  This is a mistake of monumental proportions that will likely come back to bite them as given only the choice of all or nothing, many more may choose nothing.  So you can stop banging down our doors at that point because the blame will be in the mirror.

The vaccine court was set up for the purpose of when adverse reactions happen to some children, vaccines have always been known to have side effects for some, and vaccine court is there to compensate them when there is sufficient evidence.  On Christmas Day I learned of a recent case in vaccine court just decided in favor of a child who developed seizure disorder and acute encephalopathy or the marked deterioration in neurologic development as a result of the MMR, his name is Ben Zeller. (HERE)

Anyone watching Ben Zeller’s parents holding him, this beautiful child, without the ability to sit up or fend for himself at all, would be overwhelmed with compassion, those of us with injured children can feel the knife passing through us. Click HERE to watch video.

The media continues to blame "the unvaxed" for the spate of cases in California. Perhaps they should ask Merck why they limited product choice.

NOTE: We received this comment from a reader last week:

My youngest grandson came home from secondary school today with two letters in his schoolbag addressed to his parents; both letters came from the Scottish Government Health dept.

One of the letters, came with an expensively produced glossy booklet, (at the taxpayers expense that is). This explained, teenage children in his year group at secondary school, were shortly to be 'offered' vaccinations against Diptheria, Tetanus, Polio and Meningitis. I'm not sure whether these were contained within one or more vaccine. Enclosed was a parental consent form.

The second letter was more 'sinister'. The Scottish Government were seeking consent to vaccinate my grandson with TWO separate doses of MMR vaccine. There was no glossy leaflet this time; my grandson has been individually targeted for an MMR 'catch up' campaign, since he has never received ANY MMR vaccine. Instead he was immunised privately with single injections of Mumps, Measles and Rubella. vaccines.

There were two sinister 'one liners' contained within the 'small print'. One of them stated monovalent vaccines apparently 'don't count' as far as the Scottish Government is concerned. The other stated the child could consent to the vaccinations himself. In other words, parental consent, is not actually required for any of these vaccines.

My daughter has already written to and telephoned the school stating her son is not to receive ANY vaccinations, but this is being ignored by a system which seeks to indoctrinate these young minds with all the supposed benefits of vaccines, without telling them the risks.

My grandson DID receive his Diptheria, Tetanus and Pertussis vaccines as a baby, plus a pre school booster (plus mercury). I believe he also got a meningitis jab then. My daughter sees no good reason for getting any more of these vaccines now. Tetanus vaccine is available at any time at our local health centre, if my grandson cuts himself or stands on a rusty nail etc. We believe the MMR vaccine is unsafe to give a sibling of an autistic brother, diagnosed with the Wakefield Syndrome. My grandson knows this, and won't be bullied or persuaded into any 'injections'.

The huge amount of money being expended by Governments worldwide, in promoting vaccines, deperately needs to be countered by public information, providing honest balanced information about the REAL risks and benefits. I note Dan and Mark's book is available via Amazon in the UK, and I strongly advise potential and actual parents to buy this book. Congratulations to Skyhorse for publishing this and other excellent books, some of which have pride of place on my bookshelf.

Is it possible at this time to just get a measles vaccination instead of the MMR?

Jeannette Bishop for Shane

If you are in the U.S., these government resources list vaccine ingredients (the makeup of some components is not provided by the manufacturers ...proprietary information):

http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/downloads/appendices/B/excipient-table-2.pdf

This page deals with thimerosal (mercury preservative) particularly:

http://www.fda.gov/BiologicsBloodVaccines/SafetyAvailability/VaccineSafety/UCM096228

I'm not aware of any evidence that the CDC or FDA monitors the reliability of the vaccine content info given by manufacturers.

I also wouldn't rely on a doctor to tell you accurately what is or is not in a vaccine. It's recommended to ask for and read a copy of the package insert (or look up online) before getting any vaccine.

Shane

Can anyone tell me where I can get my child vaccinated without mercury or formaldehyde?

Just looking at the data from Dr Poland's study "The Re-Emergence of Measles in Developed Countries: Time to Develop the Next-Generation Measles Vaccines?" http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3905323/ ,
it appears that there is the potential for this to become a major global issue. Without access to the monovalent measles vaccine the WHO will be dependent on the MMR in their attempts to eradicate measles. However, if the MMR is not capable of getting up to the 95% herd immunity required for eradication even when 100% of a population have been immunized with two doses of MMR, measles will be continuing to erupt anywhere and everywhere.

I just viewed Hans Roslings video presented at the 2015 World Economic Forum at Davos http://www.weforum.org/sessions/summary/sustainable-development-demystifying-facts?utm_content=buffer16fee&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer , and he speaks specifically of the measles immunization program (about 80% of children worldwide have been immunized against the measles). However, I assume that the majority of those immunizations were with the monovalent vaccine. Mr Rosling states that the measles vaccine is one of the oldest and safest vaccines, I hope he is aware of this and will have the ability to influence some change here. I have quite a bit of respect for Mr Rosling however I think he should change the focus of his efforts from immunization to Hygiene and Sanitation which would, long term, have a much greater impact on almost all diseases worldwide including measles and even ebola.

Rosycurler - Actually, our young people in the UK have already demonstrated they can think for themselves, in spite of all the pro vaccine hype. My youngest grandson is very sensible. He knows he cannot be forced to have any vaccines he doesn't want. If he is subjected to any 'heavy' persuasion on the MMR vaccine front, he knows to walk away, even going home as a last resort.

The Scottish Government's 'offer' of a quad vaccine for Diptheria, Tetanus, Polio and Meningitis, is presently being considered by my grandson, (yes-he is old enough to make this decision for himself). He has been told diptheria and polio are no threat in Scotland, but tetanus and meningitis are still 'about' and can be serious, although tetanus vaccine is available 24/7 at our hospitals and health centres, and is routinely administered to persons who cut themselves or have other injuries which might make them vulnerable. Meningitis, like mumps, has become endemic in our universities and further education colleges.

Since this particular vaccine is apparently on offer annually to senior secondary school pupils, I expect my grandson, who is still only in 3rd year, will defer his decision for at least another year, and in the meantime do some research into the side effects and whether or not the vaccine has mercury. My grandson is just a typical 'regular kid' and like all young persons these days uses the internet to find out things. I am very proud of him.

The Swansea measles epidemic was blamed, by NHS Health authories ably assisted by the pharma paid press and media, on 'teenagers' not being vaccinated because their parents were put off MMR vaccine by Dr Wakefield.

Those Welsh 'teenagers' refused the MMR vaccine in droves. Why? Because the vast majority of them WERE MMR vaccinated and KNEW IT!! They could also see for themselves, measles was not so bad!! There were no deaths,(Mr Colfer-Williams died from pneumonia and NHS neglect), and if any children had been seriously damaged by the disease we would have had this thrown in our faces by 'stories' in the press and media! There were none, with the exception of Mr Colfer-Williams, whose mum insisted was vaccinated against measles as a child.

Rosycurler

My grandson knows this, and won't be bullied or persuaded into any 'injections'.

How long can a juvenile resist the pressure of several adult figures of authority determined to scare and shame him/her into getting the shot? You need a back-up plan.

Benedetta

The justice system said that we would have to take vaccines even though they were dangerous untill research gave us safer vaccines.

Splitting them up and not even taking some of them would have been some good research.

How did that work out for us????

I guess Dr. William Thompson might could tell us - if they had not been so busy manipulating the data.

Meanwhile I have noticed that at the Wal Mart super Markets we are getting more and more choices - like MCT oil along with the regular coconut oil - and flax seed flour - non gluten section -- Life is looking up in the bread basket of the world - since we can't eat the wheat - we will have more to ship out and more to give to beef cattle. Beef is up -- I raise beef - It is a good time to be in the beef bussiness. Wish my husband felt better so we could have a bigger herd to take advantage.
