He's one of the many children and young adults in the Northwest who have some form of autism spectrum disorder, or ASD: In the Seattle School District, 10 percent of the special education population has ASD, and in nearby Bellevue, that figure is 17 percent. And because overstimulation can be painful for children with autism, many parents with autistic children avoid crowded, sensation-filled situations altogether — which can mean missing out on fun outings.
But some museums, including the Pacific Science Center, are recognizing the problem, and toning down the sights and sounds. One Saturday each month, the museum opens up early for families with ASD — like the Hiners, here before official hours begin. . . .
Other museums and organizations across the country have similar programs, from the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., to the Dallas Museum of Art. Even NASCAR holds events where autistic children go to the track to watch a live race from a quiet room.
Museums are just now "recognizing the problem." Why hasn't anything been done in the past?
Either we as a nation have always neglected this significant population OR we never had a substantial number of kids like this before. And why aren't museums opening their doors for middle-aged and older people with autism?
All the special accommodations we're seeing from autism-friendly restaurants, movie showings to Sensitive Santas are FOR CHILDREN. All of this is proof that something is dramatically different with the health of our children.
(Video) Dr. William Schaffner: "Please, please vaccinate your child. The vaccine is safe. It's wonderfully effective. It will protect your child throughout their
William Schaffner is mentioned in my book, The Big Autism Cover-Up, for his appearances in defense of vaccine on network news shows. There I note that Schaffner is "a member of the data-safety monitoring boards for Merck and Sanofi Pasteur and occasionally consults for Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline and Dynavax."
Shaffner is anindustry rep and the Wall St. Journal doesn't tell the public.
The WSJ introduces him as merely "an infectious disease expert at Vanderbilt University Medical Center."
Imagine of the interviewer had said, "Today we have Dr. William Schaffner who has worked for some of the world's leading vaccine makers to explain why you should vaccinate your child against measles."
Over the last several days Schaffner has been interviewed regarding the measles outbreak without a single mention of his pharma ties.

"This year the vaccine was so mismatched in healthy adults, it offers almost no protection."
Skowronski: "Maybe not zero, but it's certainly far from the kind of protection that we typically expect."
CBC: "There's another inconvenient truth emerging. Research is showing that getting the shot one year might make the next year's vaccine less effective."
Dr. Michael Gardam (Infectious disease specialist): "That's an uncomfortable thing for people to hear, but it definitely seems to be a real effect."
CBC: "For more than a decade scientific papers have reported unexpected findings of lower effectiveness with repeated vaccination--a strange negative effect of prior year vaccination on current year, but flu experts can't quite explain this curious effect of repeated vaccination."
THIS IS THE MOST SCANDALOUS REPORT ON THE FLU VACCINE I'VE EVER READ. IT WAS OUT A WEEK AGO IN CANADA, BUT IT'S NEVER SHOWN UP IN THE AMERICAN PRESS.
THIS VACCINE IS MANDATED IN MORE AND MORE HOSPITALS AND NOW PRESCHOOL STUDENTS AS WELL.
It not only DOESN'T WORK, BUT GETTING IT MAKES YOU MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE FLU.
Dr. Gardam wants officials to be honest about the flu vaccine. I don't think that's ever going to happen. Why is this story out in only ONE PLACE: The CBC? Why didn't a word of this show up in the U.S. news?
Dr. Danuta Skowronski has been Epidemiology Lead for Influenza and Emerging Respiratory Pathogens at the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) for approximately 15 years.
