A system Congress established to speed help to Americans harmed by vaccines has instead heaped additional suffering on thousands of families, The Associated Press has found.
The premise was simple: quickly and generously pay for medical care in the rare cases when a shot to prevent a sickness such as flu or measles instead is the likely cause of serious health complications. But the system is not working as intended.
ABC News has me blocked from posting on their site so I couldn't add the comment below.
Regardless, it's amazing to see the media concerned The government has refused to release the latest data? "The government fights legitimate claims and fails its obligation to publicize the court"? Sounds like a program both corrupt and slightly illegal.
The rates of autism in children has soared according to a new study. What could be causing the increase?
The study from Denmark found that rising rates are due primarily to the change in how autism is defined, which means autism is easier to be diagnosed as the definition of autism was made broader.
The study has been out for a while--but no matter, let's reassure everyone that there's nothing to worry about having one in every 68 kids diagnosed with autism--in fact this story DOESN'T EVEN MENTION WHAT THE RATE IS.
Of course there are stories out there about thousands of kids with autism on a waiting list for services in South Carolina --
but that's to be expected. No one would have even noticed all these children 20 years ago....when the definition was broadened.
And of course you have to read to the end of the end of the article to learn 40 percent of the increase is due to SOMETHING ELSE--unknown reasons. (But who really cares?)
Massachusetts is one of just 18 states that allow a parent to exempt their children from vaccines on philosophical grounds.
Data examined by the I-Team showed the number of exemptions has quadrupled over the past 25 years. Public health officials tell WBZ that once those exemption rates start to climb, so does the risk of an outbreak.
All of the whooping cough patients in this outbreak, 15 in total, go to Falmouth High School. . . .
No one knows for sure why exemption rates are so high on the Cape. But in this case, a school official tells WBZ that all the students had been immunized. . . .
"None of these vaccines are 100 percent effective and there is some waning of effectiveness over time," said Dr. Daley.
Notice how this story reads. We're told that 15 students at one high school have whooping cough. Then we're told about the frightening increase in exemptions and the dangers of whooping cough. AND NINE PARAGRAPHS DOWN IN THE STORY...we're told that "ALL THE STUDENTS HAD BEEN IMMUNIZED." In the 10th paragraph we're told that "there is some waning of effectiveness over time," which refers to the known fact that immunity from the vaccine starts to wear off in three years.
This is a setup. This should be a story about a vaccine THAT DOESN'T WORK. Instead it's been turned into an attack on non-vaccinating parents. (And there's also a reminder that vaccines don't cause autism.)
