The Hooker/Wakefield/Moody Complaint - "The Hammer Falls!"
Dr. Brian Hooker, Dr. Andrew Wakefield, and attorney James Moody announced today they have sent a complaint by Federal Express to Dr. Harold Jaffe, Associate Director for Science at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as Dr. Don Wright, Acting Director of the Office of Research Integrity at the Department of Health and Human Services, claiming research misconduct in the 2004 paper, "Age at First Measles-Mumps-Rubella Vaccination in Children with Autism and School-Matched Control Subjects: A Population-Based Study in Metropolitan Atlanta," which was subsequently published in the journal, Pediatrics.
The allegations are horrifying, not just for the millions of families who deal with autism on a daily basis, but for the picture it paints of a government agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), devoid of any shred of scientific integrity or what we once used to call "honor" in this country.
If these claims are shown to be true, we will be looking at nothing less than the greatest crime committed in the history of our republic, and a dark page in science which will be remembered for centuries to come.
In 2001, a group at the CDC, headed by Dr. Frank DeStefano, and including Dr. William Thompson, Dr. Marshalyn Yeargin-Allsopp, Dr. Tanya Karapurkar Bhasin, and Dr. Coleen Boyle planned to test the hypothesis that the earlier administration of the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) shot was linked to an increase in autism rates. This research was prompted by the work of Dr. Wakefield and his colleagues, suggesting a link between autism and MMR shots, and his call for additional research to answer the question. The CDC scientists came up with that plan and recorded it in a document dated September 5, 2001, but did not follow it because of troubling findings among certain groups.
When scientists set out to test a hypothesis they come up with a research plan. That plan is supposed to be followed, and if for some reason it is not, there must be an explanation of why not. It is one of the basic tenets in science. You show EVERYTHING. You do not CONCEAL DATA. If there is a hell for scientists, this is the sin which sends you to the very lowest regions.
In the eighteenth century, the attorney William Murray, in a case which sought to outlaw slavery in England stated it succintly, "Let justice be done, though the heavens may fall." With apologies to William Murray, a research plan in science should come with a similar warning, "Let science be done, though the heavens may fall" (or public health and pharmaceutical company profits be thrown into chaos.)
Two specific groups were the subject of this concealment: African-American males, and a group the CDC termed "isolated autism" (children with no co-morbid developmental disorder such as mental retardation, cerebral palsy, hearing or vision problems, epilepsy, or birth defect) or what the rest of the honest world would generally call "normally developing children."
For the African-American males, this was the increased risk of autism by earlier administration of the MMR vaccine:
-- MMR vaccination after 36 months - 1.0 risk of autism. (The rate of autism at that time.)
-- MMR vaccination prior to 36 months - 3.36 fold increase in the risk of autism.
For the "isolated autism" group (normally developing children), this was the increased risk of autism by earlier administration of the MMR vaccine:
MMR vaccination after 36 months - 1.00 risk of autism.
MMR vaccination prior to 36 months - 3.86 fold increase in the risk of autism.
In the data it was shown that the children at greatest risk in both subgroups were those children vaccinated by 18 months, demonstrating a clear trend that the earlier the MMR vaccination, the higher the risk of autism. The withholding of this information also impacted those seeking compensation for their vaccine-injured children in the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, or what the rest of the world would call "obstruction of justice." It's like a prosecutor failing to turn over a key piece of evidence which exonerates a murder suspect, then saying nothing when the defendant goes to the electric chair. But in this case, the alleged wrong wasn't against just one individual, but an entire generation of children and their families.
If these allegations are proven true, we will be looking at scientific misconduct of the very highest order. It is difficult to come up with words to describe such behavior. How can scientists committed to "public health" be so comfortable with concealing such important data? It seems we will need to come up with a new word to describe such conduct. Even tyrants and dictators who kill and main millions claim to commit their heinous acts in the name of their people, their clan, an ideology, or their family. What we have here is a willingness to betray the entire human race.
Perhaps the words of the conspirators themselves are what we should place on their tombstones, or the historical account of them which will be left for future generations to read, and to consider when their courage falters in the face of troubling findings. The statement of Dr. William Thompson on the concealment of data about the effect on African-American males might be one that we include:
I regret that my co-authors and I omitted statistically significant information in our 2004 article published in the journal Pediatrics. The omitted data suggested that African American males who received the MMR vaccine before age 36 months were at increased risk for autism. Decisions were made regarding which findings to report after the data were collected, and I believe that the final study protocol was not followed.
Maybe we don't need to invent new words. Those who read such accounts in the future will know exactly how much these scientists were committed to the "public health."

Everyone say what you want to say.... My son was perfectly normal....starting to say mom and dad at 13 months old...my son got the MMR shot at 13 months old and within a week or so his face went dead! No emotions, no smiling, no crying,,,, he remained like this till 4 years of age without talking and sort of just snapped out of it after lots of therapy that did nothing.... Don't tell me kids with autism don't just snap out of it. We were told by 3 different doctors that he had autism. Our medical covered nothing!!! Many doctors actually give you attitude when you mention not getting vaccines.... none of you know what you are talking about. It's all about $$$$.. My son will not even get a Flu Shot... He is fine now with a few small issues but a smart well behaved kid... as his parent we will make the decisions, no one else! Period...

'I'd like to understand the statistics better. The study showed that the likelihood of autism was increased by the MMR (if given before 36 months, compared to those who got it after 36 months) for the ENTIRE group of children, not just black boys, right?"
No.It instead failed to show that the likelihood of autism increased for anyone, of any race.
Brian Hooker screwed up his re-analysis of the DeStefano data set by committing multiple obvious and elementary statistical errors: inapropriately treating a case control data set as if it were a cohort study data set; applying the wrong methods of statistical anaylsis (Pearson’s chi-squared versus conditional logistic regression), failing to reduce p-values as a consequence of performing multiple comparisons, etc.

I hope that the ORI request is better received than the one SafeMinds submitted back in 2007 which described in detail the problems below. The ORI shared our documents with CDC and they were completely dismissed. Shortly thereafter we received notification of an IRS audit.
Ø Alterations in the entrance criteria and study design protocols were made after viewing initial findings and not reported in the published version of the investigation. The study authors were well aware that these alterations would result in a decrease in statistical significance and in some instances, findings to disappear entirely.
Ø Datasets used in the study were disaggregated which reduced the power to detect associations which were only found when the datasets were combined. One of the study authors acknowledged that the data must be combined to have the power to detect associations, although in the final published versions of the study after this acknowledgement, the HMO’s were disaggregated.
Ø Conflicts of interest were not divulged in the publication of the article. The lead author of the investigation was employed by a vaccine manufacturer and another author who previously acknowledged receiving funding and consulting fees from vaccine manufacturers did not acknowledge any funding conflicts.
It is our opinion that the above mentioned concerns represent a pervasive pattern of bias and conscious manipulations of samples and statistics in order to produce a negative finding regarding the dangers of thimerosal exposure in infants and children. In addition, these series of events, including the suppression and falsification of data, represent scientific misconduct deserving of a full review by the Office of Research Integrity.

That's very disappointing. I suppose it ought to be pointed out to Congressman Nunes that we all know what the policy is but the government bureaucracy ought to be subject to challenge on it. A CDC employee, William Thompson, has admitted that data was hidden in a CDC paper, has made thousands of documents available to his colleague Congressman Posey, that Thompson himself was peer reviewer of the retracted paper, and the grounds for retracting the paper look trumped up.
If government bureaucracies cannot be politically challenged they are always likely to err in the end, not to mention massage the evidence to support the policy. The issue has not had a proper airing, and citizens' concerns have not been listened to. If Congress does not demand that the CDC account for itself it will not do its job and the public interest will not be served.

Hi,
I got a response back from congressman Devin Nunes regarding the Whistleblower. He states "Thank you for taking the time to contact me about the recet report linkig vaccies and autism. I welcome the opportunity to respond. Throughout the past decade there has been a lot of misrepresentation and inaccurate reporting on this matter. The report you referenced has been pulled due to concerns about the validity of its . Furthermore there have been numerous false studies in the past that have claimed to link vaccines to autism I youg children. These false studies only perpetuate the misunderstanding about the importance of critical vaccines. Certain viruses have been all but eradicated in the United States through vaccination but when a significant number of children do not receive common vaccines out breaks happen. should investigation find there was wrongdoing on the part of the CDC I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind.

"It's a kind of scientific integrity, a principle of scientific thought that corresponds to a kind of utter honesty--a kind of leaning over backwards. For example, if you're doing an experiment, you should report everything that you think might make it invalid--not only what you think is right about it; other causes that could possibly explain your results; and things you thought of that you've eliminated by some other experiment, and how they worked--to make sure the other fellow can tell they've been eliminated.
Details that could throw doubt on your interpretation must be given, if you know them. You must do the best you can--if you know anything at all wrong, or possibly wrong--to explain it....In summary, the idea is to try to give all of the information to help others to judge the value of your contribution; not just the information that leads to judgment in one particular direction or another."

I live in the Atlanta Metro Area and my son was born in 1992. It outraged me at the time that the CDC could have viewed my son's school records and then used his records for their studies. I am not sure of the word the describes my beyond outrage that they also lied about the results. The word is not shocked, however.

We are going to have to solicit the help of international autism parents, doctors, nurses, scientists, researchers and journalists. Millions across the planet are aware that USA CDC is the cause of their pain & suffering in their countries. Many countries have been "lucky" enough to address it, and kick out all or part of the USA vaccine program/schedule from their homelands. In the meantime, their autistic loved ones live out their lifetimes in many different nations throughout the world. We have to unite with the international autism community, we need their help to put pressure on the United States Congress too! The quicker the better for all.

Adam!
The complaint (obtainable when you click on"complaint" in the first paragraph above) says that Thompson only addressed the black population. He did not say anything about the "isolated" group. The "isolated" group surely also contained black kids. "The "isolated" group also only had kids in it where the IQ was above 70%. That means those kids had to have speech. The report left out everyone who could not talk. That means to me that the group of autistic kids called "isolated" did not include anyone whose IQ could not be measured. The 2004 report left out those kids on purpose so that it couldn't give a clue as to an MMR connection to autism.

There MUST be "the sky is falling" moment ASAP!
This is hugest "hidden" state mandated maiming/murdering of humans since WWII.
Millions are affected throughout the world.
These toxic injections are no better than lethal gas.
It took years for the world to grasp the catastrophic magnitude of the death camps, before and during WWII. However, the irony is that it took a shorter time for Final Solution to be realized and condemned as Crimes Against Humanity, from 1939 to 1946 Nuremberg Trials, and without the internet!
This is so damn f***ing frustrating!!!
What does it take for modern day people to stop sending their own children and others to slaughter like sheep!

I have been begging my representative to look into this matter. I sent the recent complaint. I received a response yesterday from an aide that handles health affairs. Earlier this week, my Congressional representative sent this response re the CDC whistleblower:
"Thank for you for contacting me to express your thoughts about the link between autism and vaccines.
"As you know, Dr. William Thompson, a Senior Scientist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently admitted to withholding data on the link between autism and vaccines in a 2004 article he co-authored. In a statement released on August 27, 2014, Dr. Thompson explained that the omitted information suggested that African American males who received the Mumps, Measles, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine before 36 months of age had an increased risk for autism.
"Like you, I believe the release of this information highlights the importance of monitoring and maintaining commonsense research disclosure practices. As your Representative in Congress, be assured I have noted your concerns and will keep them in mind as I continue to look into this important matter and the vaccine approval process as a whole."
So, my representative or staff is aware of Thompson's revelation(s) to some extent, but I'm not sure what to make of the third paragraph...

Can someone explain Adam's comment? I was under the impression the study showed a higher percentage in black males above the prevalence in white males, with the flat stat indicating the rate at the time for their birth year, one in eighty eight, one in sixty eight ,certainly not that white children weren't affected?
Posted by: barbara | October 23, 2014 at 11:21 PM

1) You are ignoring the new evidence about the "isolated" sub-group.
2) The fact that the problem emerges amongst a particular ethnic group in one locale adds to the general plausibility of damage from the vaccine.
3) We have other studies indicating this as well - the Madsen study (coordinated by Thorsen and Yeargin-Allsopp where the correlation was hiiden by including children who had not yet been vaccinated and children who had not yet been diagnosed in the vaccinated group (an advantage of studying the problem in Denmark was that diagnosis was much later than in the US.

Beth,
Hooker's paper reported that that autism was increased ONLY in black boys. In all of the other subgroups the data showed no increase at all. So if you are white, or a black female, Hooker's data shows that the MMR was not associated with autism.
Of course Hooker's statistics have been criticized, and the paper was subsequently retracted by the publisher (for bad statistics as well as undeclared conflict of interest) so I don't think anyone should be pointing to the Hooker paper as evidence of anything.

46% increase in autism entire cohort- from Complaint"
"2.10. Having omitted significant findings as described above, The Group were left to explain a residual statistically significant, 46% excess risk of autism in the whole group, comparing those receiving MMR before and
after 36 months. They made the claim that this was likely an artifact of immunization requirements for enrollment in special education pre-school children [Exhibit 1, page 259]. They made this claim without supporting evidence and despite the fact that such vaccination requirements for special education pre-school children are no different than those for regular education pre-school children."

Birgit; My guess is that all work; all data collected is done with 8 year olds.
But wahat does a kid with isolated autism look like??? I don't know.
I know my son would probably look like one of those isolated autism cases. Not talking much - delayed some what. Except would they have excluded him because he did have seizures as a baby right after the DPT shot. However; he was not having them at 8 years old (that they knew about - actually he was having mild absentees).. Yet, I doubt if anyone would have dug through his records to find out. After all we are talking about Larry, Moe, and Curly here working at the CDC.
So I would say it was kids like your son and mine, and my neighbor's son up the road - looksnormal, nothing else they can put a quick finger on that is wrong with them except the school test says there is a problem. Does that sound reasonable??
Anyone out there that has read the study - knows more about isolated autism they are talking about - clear this up some for us?
Posted by: Benedetta | October 23, 2014 at 02:00 PM
Benedetta!
What am getting at is the fact that one of the hallmarks of autism is not talking. How do those investigators know about the autism if there isn't any indication of any problems. What gives them a clue that these kids actually have autism? A tick in itself is not autism. Cerebral palsy in itself is not autism, and mental retardation is not autism. I am certain that co-morbidities need to be ignored to get to the bottom of what autism is, and in order to test for autism the children have to present clues that there is autism.
The "isolated" group had to have at least the identifying mark of autism. Otherwise that group would not have been called "isolated".

Completely off topic is the mess, chaos and incomprehensibility of fundamental particles. When I was learning about these, there were basically THREE sub atomic particles making up the then known 92 or so elements that constructed our universe.
Today these sub atomic particles are more numerous than the elements of our universe.
Strange that.
But even stranger are the accusations that research in the 19th and early 20th century actually cooked the results on the electron charge to get it to minus one. I think halves were considered NOT WANTED at the time.
Were the results altered to get the desired result (-1) rather than the real results and is this the reason for the present complexity of sub atomic particles with matter, anti-matter et al?
Also when one person today from thousands finds a new particle with one photo record, the world laps up the new discovery after 50 years of watching sub-atomic trials and the research budgets to find another NEW particle make phone numbers look like a zero.
Madness is not confined to vaccine science but seems a FUNDAMENTAL particular make up of intelligent people who dont want to spoil their lives by actually doing anything practical other than OBFUSCATE themselves and all around them?
Vaccines for regulators, industry and government start out as totally safe, necessary and efficace and nothing it seems can get this from their RIGged mind set.
The result of failing health is now recognised but the cause so evident to some is somehow only to be found by bankrupting the nation by chasing effectively their tail of their brilliance, aptitude and ability to cock up the health of everyone and especially those less able to defend themselves the babies of the world who are plagued by their actual stupidity, incompetence and arrogance to see what is blindingly clear. They are deluding themselves about vaccines.
A very dangerous infectious outbreak of disease is being hopefully controlled and not a vaccine in sight except in West Africa where vaccine trials for this very illness were being done, just BEFORE this new and deadly outbreak.
So tracking infections, isolation and using fluids from those who recover still works while the search for a vaccine FIX may have been the cause or not of this latest outbreak?
Starange that?

France is at present discussing whether to enforce vaccinations as at present the system is abused by far too many not getting vaccines on the timed schedule et al. (Only the tetanus vaccine is quasi obligatory)
The result? Autism in France has been very recently evaluated at 1 child per 1 000.
The authorities are duly horrified at this unacceptable level of autism and declared effectively war to reduce numbers.
Strange then that the government want to increase the rapidity and number of vaccines so the vaccine load will rise towards that of the UK, USA, Canada and Australia where autism rates of more than 1 case per 100 children is common.
Also strange that from the factories of big pHARMa the whole world AGREES that one person in 8 is HARMed by their medical drugs. No dispute here.
But with big pHARMa output of vaccines the admitted harm is so close to ABSOLUTE ZERO you feel that finally mans enterprises has found just ONE activity that works at 100 per cent EFFICIENCY of PROPAGANDA, BULLSHIT and BARE FACED LIES.

Bridget;
It was explained somewhere - what an isolated group was, or rather what it was not.
They were kids thought to have normal IQs with no known - genetic diseases or birth injuries, that were progessing along just fine according to those mile stones they like to print out.
To me what stood out - as they darn well know - those sorry, - darn their hides -- They picked the group that had seizures to try to hide the data. Babies with seizures is tricky to me cause my kid did not have seizures up untill his vaccine injury. Vaccine injuries cause seizures as we know. So, that is why Coleen and the rest thought that would be a good way to hide the result if they included the those babies that had seizures disorders from the start - caused by what ever; genetic disorders, birth injuries, Mother on dope , what ever.
But to their disappointment it was not enough to change the results.
They darn well know vaccine injuries cause seizures and they used that knowlege to try to hide behind other seizure disorders.

Gratitude to those who are filing the challenge, even if it doesn't help our mixed/African-American adult grandson with autism. During hours of exploring the Internet (what else could he do?)studying science, history, whatever, he landed on sections that were illegal to look at. Law enforcement was hacking, looking for these bad guys, and our grandson now possibly faces posssible felony charges. He had no idea he was doing something illegalwhen he looked all over the Internet, 24/7 alone, looking for something interesting. He could face years of prison time if our top-rate attorneys can't educate the state/fed guys about how autism confuses a sweet, mild guy with endless legitimate interests. Best to you all, Berta
Posted by: Granny Blue | October 22, 2014 at 09:31 PM
Thompson says that they concealed their results because, among other reasons, they didn't want vaccination rates to fall. But they didn't even suggest a change in the age of MMR vaccination. Would the sky have fallen if it had been changed to, say, 42 months? They could have invented a pretext. Obviously, they are very good at that.
Posted by: Carol | October 22, 2014 at 05:46 PM
So, this "isolated" group obviously doesn't contain kids who do not talk because they would by necessity need to be labelled mentally handicapped. Am I right? Is it not possible to also include the children who do not talk among the "isolated" group especially if they have no other co-morbidity? I see it as conceivable that a child never learns to talk simply because that child has a particularly severe form of autism caused by vaccines or other environmental toxins like mercury amalgam. My oldest son learned to talk at age three and a half. He later turned out to have an IQ of 137. What if he had never talked, would he be excluded from the "isolated" group? We all know there is a huge variation between one autistic child and another. It was quite evident that my son was intelligent before he talked. He could do puzzles with ease. He could express his knowledge by other means other than talking. He also was exceptionally athletic, and he looked completely normal.

Isn't the "isolated" subgroup really in many ways a group that should have been paid greater attention to? That group could be any color if I am not mistaken unless of course black was thought to be a co-morbidity which I hope is not the case. Autism occurring in a group without co-morbidity should be the most useful group in the context of a vaccination study.
I am shocked about the autism rate in that group. Am I correct in reading that the autism rate is almost 4% among the "isolated" group?

The thing that gets me is they have said for years that NO vaccine can cause autism...I mean even if they manipulated the data...the fact they spent money on a study trying to disprove it's links speaks volumes....if it doesn't cause it, then why worry about it right?
This is just plain sick....I mean, my children were born in the early eighties....what possible chance have I now to sue on behalf of them?
And, if MMR can do this what about HEP B or DPT or DtAP? What about all the vaccines combined? To really have a great study, they should find out how many autistic children ON THE SCHEDULE get autism, as opposed to the non vaxxed, plenty to find nowadays, since they have lost all confidence in the american mommies and daddies?
I feel sick to my stomach...knowing these are the people at the helm of when major pandemics are supposedly outreaking...
It makes me go there they did this EBOLA thing so as to whitewash this news, and or obliterate it...
And the media is complicit too! I mean, really? The silence is deafening!
I so want the new black on Colleen Boyle and her associates...

Posted by: Autism Media Channel | October 22, 2014 at 10:44 AM
To my understanding, Dr. Hooker's reanalysis indicated that the whole of the small increase for the entire group of children could be accounted for by the large increase in the population of African-American boys. However, that paper makes no mention of the analysis of the "isolated autism" subgroup. It seems that "isolated autism" was much more common in the group as a whole if the MMR was received "on time." There's the basis for a hell of a class-action lawsuit.

Beth -- John:
My understanding (confused some what too) They had two groups of human beings.
Normal healthy blacks, if given the MMR early developed autism could be hidden, reduced, all gone, get rid of the data by reducing the number of kids in the study by requiring the birth certificates.
For the whites --I guesss the whites are still a larger group to begin with - the normal developing - healthy births -- they could not get rid of the fact that MMR increased autism if given early. They tried to include in the study kids that were born with various problems to begin with - to see if that would help. Even that did not hide the data. So they just did not show that data at all -- threw it all out.
Now is that about it in a nut shell.

Jill,
Only 271 when according to Dr Offit ten or a hundred thousand would be "theoretically" safe adminstered at one time. Doesn't matter whether it is smallpox, ebola, anthrax...

It is a crime of unfathomable seriousness and it is only a matter of time before this is accepted by all as such. What happens then is scary. Perhaps that is why they insist on keeping it up.

WHERE is Dr. Nancy when we need her ???
She is so good with sorting out fraud in papers...
Should she ever return to her NBC medical news position, it will be difficult for her to talk with her foot in her mouth.

Hi Beth
The original study ascribed the higher rate in those vaccinated before 36 months to registration requirements (for which there was no evidence). But additionaly (apart from the effect for African Americans) they excluded from publication the results for the "Isolated" sub-group ie children who developed autism without having co-morbidities. The letter documents how they tried to massage the effect but when this strategy failed they simply decided not to publish the data in any shape or form.

I'd like to understand the statistics better. The study showed that the likelihood of autism was increased by the MMR (if given before 36 months, compared to those who got it after 36 months) for the ENTIRE group of children, not just black boys, right? Or was the increase driven solely by the black boy subgroup? Did Dr. Wakefield's study that looked at the same thing (timing of the MMR as a risk for autism), look at different subgroups by race and sex?

Kent .. you are right .. if this allegation proves true .. we will have to invent a new word to describe the despots who engineered it .. so their names and their incomprehensible crime against humanity is remembered .. by future generations .. as a warning to those tempted to repeat their criminal attack on the most innocent .. mankind's most precious resource .. our innocent children.
