Oct 17, 2014, Johns Hopkins Scientist Reveals Shocking Report on Flu Vaccines

On what would have been his 100th birthday, Google honored Jonas Salk, who discovered the polio vaccine, with a "Doodle," the search engine's daily, artful logo iteration....

One of the most common complaints of the vocal anti-vaccine movement is a supposed link between vaccines - especially the vaccine for measles, mumps and rubella or MMR  - and autism. But the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has concluded "there is not a causal relationship between certain vaccine types and autism."

Nonetheless anti-vaxxers continue to perpetuate the autism-link myth

Here's some added info on Jonas Salk and his vaccine:

"American scientist Jonas Salk came forward with a new idea to eliminate all three strains of polio. He would grow the live virus in a lab and then kill the virus and inject the dead virus into children. Being dead, they could not produce, but would create antibodies against the virus. Thus the immune system would be armed against polio.

"Bernice Eddy was a bacteriologist at the NIH (National Institute of Health) and was told to safety-test the new vaccine. What she found was that the virus in the vaccine was not dead but still alive and able to breed. When she tried it on her monkeys, they were paralyzed. She sent pictures and warned the NIH.

"Several prominent physicians stepped into the fray to state the vaccine was safe. One of these doctors was Dr. Alton Ochsner who was Dr. Mary Sherman's boss. To demonstrate his faith in the vaccine, Dr. Ochsner inoculated his own grandchildren with it. The mass inoculation proceeded on schedule and within days children fell sick from polio, some crippled, and some died. Ochsner's grandson died of polio and his granddaughter was crippled with it. The director of the NIH resigned, the Secretary of Health resigned, it was a huge failure by public health."

An important and definitive "mainstream" government study done nearly a decade ago got little attention because the science came down on the wrong side. It found that after decades and billions of dollars spent promoting flu shots for the elderly, the mass vaccination program did not result in saving lives. In fact, the death rate among the elderly increased substantially.

The authors of the study admitted a bias going into the study. Here was the history as described to me: Public health experts long assumed flu shots were effective in the elderly. But, paradoxically, all the studies done failed to demonstrate a benefit. Instead of considering that they, the experts, could be wrong-instead of believing the scientific data-the public health experts assumed the studies were wrong. After all, flu shots have to work, right?

...when they finished, no matter how they crunched the numbers, the data kept telling the same story: flu shots were of no benefit to the elderly. Quite the opposite. The death rate had increased markedly since widespread flu vaccination among older Americans. The scientists finally had to acknowledge that decades of public health thought had been mistaken.

Description from Sharyl Attkisson's blog....Investigative Journalist who tries to give you information others don't want you to have. What you do with it is your own business. Do your own research. Seek advice from those you trust. Make up your own mind.

So the flu shot doesn't work in the elderly and it's linked to a higher mortality rate.  And officials don't care.  (Seriously, who makes money when people don't get a vaccine?)

We should all be scared!

A Johns Hopkins scientist has issued a blistering report on influenza vaccines in the British Medical Journal (BMJ). Peter Doshi, Ph.D., charges that although the vaccines are being pushed on the public in unprecedented numbers, they are less effective and cause more side effects than alleged by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Further, says Doshi, the studies that underlie the CDC's policy of encouraging most people to get a yearly flu shot are often low quality studies that do not substantiate the official claims.

Something is VERY WRONG HERE. Our health officials tell every senior to get a flu shot.  WHY?

Sharyl Attkisson, top investigative reporter, is saying that top research that our health officials KNOW ABOUT shows the flu shot is ineffective and deadly in the elderly.

My speculation is that college students working for that A, interns, government agents, corporate lobbyists, Pharma doctors, work from home workers, and the disabled are all at work trying to downplay, disrupt, harass, play knowledge games with all the anti-vax comments posted online. I personally was attacked by a so called nurse who continuously asked me to post a URL as evidence to support my claims. Now who does that? Only someone who's paid to go website to website and reply to comments. I don't know a single nurse who has abundant free time to fart around on the internet all day.

Unfortunately, not true. I got attacked often. I have been the recipient of organized troll attacks. I posted this before, trolls - pro vaccine paid operatives-"flag" people en mass that they can't intimidated, won't fall for bulling by calling trolls out or they attack those who information is so backed up by data they can't dispute it. So they flag, the moderators don't read the comments they just remove the comment. I've seen on NN where comments with as many as 72 upticks removed because of flagging. Flagging on disqus sites have reached epidemic proportions because the moderators don't read the comments, they just allow the tolls to moderate. Disqus give account holders characterizations such as "spammer" of "low information" commenter when they are flagged often, and this is all moderators look up if they take the time to check out the person. I've run into this problem with NN and I have to email the moderator before I post a comment to explain why I'm being "flagged". Same problem with Greenmed. All my comments were within the guidelines of Greenmed yet because trolls "flagged" me I'm now blocked from commenting even though I explained the situation to the site owner. I no longer go to Greenmed and stayed away from NN for about 6 months. There is no safe haven for the truth and site moderators seem more interested in helping the pro-vac group than the side they based their entire website on-actual science and vaccine information.

I love being called an anti vaxxer… because that's exactly what I am. And when people resort to calling me that as an insult, it shows desperation on their side. Not mine.

You need to wear it like a badge of honour autism mom. It makes them even madder.

"March 2013. Experts are puzzled by a new study in which influenza vaccination seemed to provide little or no protection against flu in the 2010-11 season—and in which the only participants who seemed to benefit from the vaccine were those who hadn't been vaccinated the season before.

The investigators recruited 328 households in Michigan before the flu season started and followed them through the season. Overall, they found that the infection risk was nearly the same in vaccinated and unvaccinated participants, indicating no significant vaccine-induced protection, according to their report in Clinical Infectious Diseases. That contrasted sharply with several other observational studies that found the vaccine to yield about 60% protection during the same season.

In trying to figure out why the effectiveness was so low, the researchers sifted their data in different ways, said Arnold S. Monto, MD, of the University of Michigan, senior author of the study. 'We discovered that if you separated out those that had not been vaccinated the previous year, you got percentages close to what were seen in the major vaccine effectiveness studies,' he told CIDRAP News....The vaccine was found to be 62% effective in those who hadn't been vaccinated the previous year. That was similar to findings in the other observational studies and also to the results of a recent, rigorous meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. In contrast, those who had been vaccinated 2 years in a row (before both the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons) got no significant protection.

An additional finding was that the vaccine did not seem to protect participants who were exposed to flu in their own household, though the numbers in that arm of the study were small...."

First, RealFarmacy is rehashing an opinion piece from the BMJ by Peter Doshi that came out in May 2013 ( There were lots of criticisms of the piece and of Doshi, but I think he supported the piece pretty well with evidence. Several Cochrane Collaboration systematic reviews of flu vaccines say much the same thing. Here's a presentation Doshi gave at a conference explaining his points with lots of data and pictures ( Second, Doshi is now an assistant professor of pharmaceutical health services research in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Maryland and received his Ph.D. in history, anthropology, and science, technology and society from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He did his masters at Harvard and a post-doc fellowship at Johns Hopkins. 110 PubMed articles have his name as an author or co-author ([Author]&cauthor=true&cauthor_uid=20534663). Although his degree is not in epidemiology, I think he knows what he's talking about. Pro-vax trolls try to criticize him because he's not an epidemiologist, but he's probably smarter than they are. His most recent bio is here:

Lastly, as has been pointed out several times on this site, it's mostly liberal media outlets that so viciously attack vaccine objectors as "anti-vaxxers." This pains me because on most other issues, I am a liberal. It's to the point where I can no longer follow MSNBC, Salon, Alternet, Slate, etc., but I can't follow Fox or Drudge, either, except for the occasional article. Can anyone recommend a liberal or centrist new outlet that is at least neutral on the vaccine issue? I would have gone with WSJ, even though they're conservative, if they hadn't recently published an op-ed by Paul Offit.

Yesterday .. Anne posted a link to Health Impact News .. which contained the last report issued in December 2013 by the Dept of Justice (Vaccine Court) .. for compensation made by the HHS for people injured or killed by vaccines.

As I understand the DOJ's stats .. there were 139 claims settled during 8/16/2013 and 11/15/2013 .. a three month period .. with 70 claims being compensated .. which means just over 50% of claims filed for serious vaccine injuries.

Among the compensated victims were 15 who were compensated for Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) specifically related to the "flu" vaccines they received.

I don't know about you .. but .. 15 people out of 50 compensated claims .. over a three month period .. seems a little high for just ONE vaccine? Even more so when that very same vaccine remains approved and recommended for pregnant women and toddlers.

I don't know if Dr. Peter Doshi is qualified or not to offer scientific criticism of flu vaccines .. but .. his "blistering report" appears validated by HHS compensated victims.

Hi Godfrey,

I don't see any paradox, but I would be more impressed with Caplan if he hadn't hidden behind Dorit Reiss when Mary Holland challenged him in the Harvard Law Review.

Jenny Allan

Godfrey - At least Dr Doshi and Dr Caplan both have Ph.Ds in recognised science subjects, which should have instilled a measure of scientific objectivity into their thought processes. I quite like the idea of Arthur Caplan's thesis on 'the history and philosophy of science'. These days the traditional concept of scientific thinking has been 'turned on its head'. We need to stand back and look at things from a 'historical' perspective sometimes.

Most scientific research these days is both funded and commissioned by vested interests, which make it plain exactly what the 'research' is supposed to find,(and must not find). We all know what happens to scientific researchers, who make 'unwanted' discoveries during the course of their research projects.

As for the BMJ. These days, this once respected journal is fast becoming a 'basket case', with 7 pages of a recent edition given over to climate change!! Editor Godlee admitted big pharma and corporate interests now dictate what gets published. The rot set in with Brian Deer's permitted articles 'Secrets of the MMR scare' and an earlier one where Deer rubbishes 'autistic enterocolitis'. I am not sure where this term originated from, but with all his articles, Deer was targeting (surprise surprise) the Wakefield et al 1998 Lancet paper which was entitled:-
"Ileal-lymphoid-nodular hyperplasia, non-specific colitis, and pervasive developmental disorder in children." .....admittedly a bit of a 'mouthful' to quote every time.

Brian Deer, who often attaches the University of Warwick to his title on his comments and blogs, obtained a degree (ordinary?)in philosophy from that educational establishment umpteen years ago. There has been no attempt at a Ph.D, but in the UK only first class and upper second class honours are ever accepted for doctorates.

"A Johns Hopkins scientist has issued a blistering report on influenza vaccines in the British Medical Journal (BMJ). Peter Doshi, Ph.D."

Dr. Doshi's Ph.D. training was in the social sciences. This is similar to Arthur Caplan's Ph.D. in the history and philosophy of science.
