That means there is little opportunity for social involvement and a lack of a clear plan for a future when parents can no longer care for them, she said....

I have seen so many stories like this from lots of places in the U.S.  They're always local news.  They tell us ASD kids are aging out of school with nowhere to go.  It's up to parents to provide something for them as adults.  Many of them can't talk, have seizures, wander away, have meltdowns.  Notice the complacency about the current rate and what might be causing it.  No one is asking why autistic young adults can't go where autistic adults have always gone.  Somehow we're just supposed adjust to a significant part of the population being disabled. 

Someone needs to make the CDC explain this.  Where are the adults currently and we can't find them, shouldn't we be in a frenzy to address the cause?

Imagine what the U.S. will be like when one in every 68 people across the population has autism.  ....the nightmare continues.....

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration argues that, "American consumers benefit from having access to the safest and most advanced pharmaceutical system in the world. The system set in place to approve pharmaceutical drugs, medications and vaccines provides for immense scrutiny of the effects of the medication on a subject well before that drug ever comes up for sale. Although the FDA and its Center for Drug Evaluation and Research do not conduct pharmaceutical testing themselves, they require testing and review data from these studies that are attached to new drug applications, or NDAs....

Today there is a lot of investment by American pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms in the area of vaccine development. As of September 2013, there were 271 vaccines created by American biotechnology companies that were either in human clinical trials or under review by the FDA.

This article is intended to promote vaccines and challenge the claim that they cause autism.  Interesting facts show up.  It's clear from the piece and the info from the links embedded here that we have a lot to worry about.  This comment about testing was scary enough...........

It is the responsibility of the company seeking to market a drug to test it and submit evidence that it is safe and effective. A team of CDER physicians, statisticians, chemists, pharmacologists, and other scientists reviews the sponsor's NDA containing the data and proposed labeling.

Add to that the news that it's supposed to take 12 years to get a vaccine to market, yet in the case of the Ebola vaccine, it's being fast-tracked because the disease is such a worldwide threat.  (Notice the chilling announcement that there are 271 additional vaccines currently somewhere in the approval process.  It seems they're not going to stop until they vaccinate us right back into the Stone Age.)

Nationwide, there is a rise in exemption rates, which reflects some parents' belief that the vaccines are more dangerous than the diseases they prevent and could be linked to a rise in autism....

"A lot of that has to do with what people find on the Internet. They get a lot of misinformation from Googling, and just because something's on the Internet does not mean it's accurate," said Dr. Mary Maher, a pediatrician with Cornerstone Care Pediatric Alliance in Washington. "At Cornerstone, we have very few parents who opt out of vaccines. In the office, we really promote the vaccines and give parents literature about the importance of having children vaccinated."..

I am so tired of reporters with the mindset: If a doctor says so, it must be true.  

It's all Andrew Wakefield's fault. 

I want a reporter to QUESTION THE DOCTORS THEY INCLUDE IN THESE ONE-SIDED PROPAGANDA PIECES.

If vaccines don't cause autism, what does? 

How do you explain regressive autism following vaccination?  What about the case of Hannah Poling?  Why do officials deny any connection at the same time it was revealed that the federal compensation program has been paying off for injuries that included autism for over two decades?  Why are vaccine makers allowed to do their own safety studies?  Why is mercury used in the flu shot?  Why are there no independent studies on vaccines?  ....   Reporters just don't know enough.

The "autism-friendly" performance of "The Lion King" is among a growing number of theater productions in Boston and around the country intended for families with children on the autism spectrum, with quieter music and less intense lighting, plus calming areas and relaxed rules about theater etiquette.

This was Broadway in Boston's first effort, and with 2,600 people at the sold-out show, it played to the biggest audience of autistic children and their families the city has see

I can't post on this because it's about accommodating ASD kids. I'm sure it's wonderful for struggling parents.  Look at the posted comments.

The real message here is... we should be nice to children with autism. This is a call to make the world 'autism friendly.'

So...what will happen when these nonverbal kids who need "quieter music and less intense lighting, plus calming areas and relaxed rules about theater etiquette" reach adulthood?  What will the world have for them?

Will the U.S. have "a sensory-friendly and judgment-free environment" for them?

Will there be "sound-reducing headphones" to accommodate the hundreds of thousands of autistic adults aging out of school with no place to go?  Will we learn to accept "assistant dogs" for ASD people who can't talk?

The Boston Globe makes up things as they go.  They tell us, "Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability in the United States," without telling us why.  (Get used to it people--autism is going to get worse and worse--we're helpless to do anything about it.) 

The Globe says that autism "affects 1 on 68 people-a 30 percent increase from two years ago" without telling us why.  Seriously, it's one in 68 CHILDREN.  Even the CDC doesn't try to spin the rate to cover "PEOPLE."   

"The conservatory is now committed to doing two such shows a year. 'It's an enormous need, and it's getting bigger and bigger,' said Rhoda Bernard, director of the conservatory's program for students with autism."

So, would someone tell us why there was no need for a performance like this 25 years ago--before we made dramatic increases in the vaccine schedule?

The nightmare of neurologically disabled children is being swept under the rug.  We pretend to care about autism.  We have Sensitive Santas and autism friendly movie showings.  Even The Lion King is outfitted for autism.

Nothing is wrong.  We just need to make the world "AUTISM FRIENDLY' and keep paying, paying and paying.  Implicit in this is that we can expect to have more and more and more children with autism.  Sorry folks, that's life.

Autism spectrum disorders remain frustrating and mysterious to experts and parents alike. Is the disease over-diagnosed, or are many cases still being missed? Is there some missing link to environmental factors? Are too many conditions collected under the general heading of "autism?" Researchers believe they've begun to answer many of these questions, finding links to genetics and environmental factors such as infections, pregnancy complications and pollution. Other suspected links, such as vaccines or parenting styles, have been fairly thoroughly debunked.

But there is little doubt that autism presents a significant challenge to families and educators, with one in every 68 children diagnosed with some form of autism-spectrum disorder. The hallmarks of autism - social impairments, cognitive problems and communication difficulties - are frustrating and often heartbreaking....

Society also bears a burden: The United States spends more than $260 billion a year meeting the needs of children and adults with autism, including treatment and disability costs.

Here is an opinion piece that exemplifies how the media reports on autism.  It's a mystery.  It's not alarming, only "frustrating."  There are "significant challenges." 

There is no demand for answers. The only thing we have to offer is early diagnosing and intervention. 

Are the numbers real?  No one can say.  It may be over-diagnosed, or still under-diagnosed.  There might be environmental factors. 

THE ONLY THING THIS PAPER IS SURE OF IS THAT NEITHER VACCINES NOR REFRIGERATOR MOTHERS CAUSE IT.  

There is no comment section on this story or I'd ask why this writer ignores what the federal Vaccine Injury Compensation Program has done for the last twenty years, paying off for vaccine-induced autism.  How come they didn't bring up Hannah

Poling?  I'd ask them to explain regressive autism occurring after routine vaccination.  Why is the rate only applied to children?  When are we going to get the statistics on adults?  Considering the expected increases in the rate every two years or so, when will the numbers get bad enough to make this country address autism as the health care emergency it clearly is? 

As long as we refuse to honestly look at this disorder and all the other neurological problems now plaguing our kids, we'll still be reading this worthless stuff ten years from now.  Only by 2025, according to Stephanie Seneff at MIT, the autism rate will be one in every two children.

Before the rise of major health bureaucracies such as the Centres for Disease Control, science gave us the breathtaking breakthroughs

What hasn't declined in the medical field is dogma, as best illustrated by the 2005 Nobel Prize for Medicine, awarded to Barry Marshall for an outside-the-box discovery more than two decades earlier. Marshall, a trainee in internal medicine in Australia, realized that ulcers - then a very serious ailment - were caused by an easily treated bacterial infection rather than by stress, as commonly believed. Marshall was ridiculed, called a quack, dismissed when he presented his findings to an annual meeting of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, dismissed by the pharmaceutical companies, dismissed by funding bodies that held the purse strings to research grants, dismissed by important medical journals. Although he soon successfully cured his own patients without subjecting them to conventional treatments - like antidepressants to allay the patients' presumed stress-induced gastric acids or surgical removal of their ulcerated stomachs - the medical world treated him as a fraud, asserting his results couldn't be replicated and in any case couldn't be true. Even after Marshall, in desperation, decided to prove that infections caused ulcers by infecting himself, and then curing the resulting ulcer with an antibiotic, he remained a charlatan to most for another decade.

Thank you, Mr. Solomon, for the story of Barry Marshall and ulcers.  It reminded me of Ignaz Semmelweis, the doctor in Hungry in the mid-nineteenth century who dared to propose that DOCTORS WASH THEIR HANDS between patients.  He was ridiculed and denounced and died in an asylum at age 47. 

As someone active in the controversy over vaccines and autism, I'm waiting for the day when the medical community wakes up to the reality that injecting mercury, aluminum and live viruses into babies and small children isn't good for them.  Right now, vaccines make a lot of money for the drug industry and people with vested interests in vaccines.  Meanwhile our children are sicker and sicker.  Our schools are filled with students who have serious, even life threatening health issues: diabetes, seizures, allergies and neurological disorders.  The number of shots our children receive has more than tripled since 1983 without a single study on the cumulative effect of so many shots so soon on the health of a child. 

We've seen what happened to Dr. Andrew Wakefield, the British gastroenterologist whose patients developed bowel disease and autism following the MMR vaccine, according to their parents.  He was denounced by the medical community and the media when he called for further study on the link. 

Medical truth is often secondary to medical profit.  The medical-industrial complex has a lot at stake in promoting vaccines.  Just as Ignaz Semmelweis and Barry Marshall were attacked for their beliefs, so is any doctor who says that a one-size-fits-all vaccine schedule isn't safe for every child.
