Where do parents turn when their children become adults in age but will remain dependent throughout their lifetimes? It's a question the Leonards confronted soon after Joshua turned 18. . .

These stories keep coming up. They're always local, state coverage. The ASD generation is aging out of school with nowhere to go. Read the part in this story about how the Virginia legislature plans to do nothing. "Virginia's policymakers are aware of the difficulties parents face but have opted to do little but study the matter."

All those medical experts and officials who still are in the news everyday telling us that all the autism is just better diagnosing of a condition that's always been here, need to solve this problem for parents. If people with autism have always been here, there'd be services already in place for them. The glaring lack of anything is proof autism is a manmade disorder. Every single time the rate was increased, officials solemnly declared that it might not be a true increase, just better diagnosing/greater awareness.

The Hill

The House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced autism research legislation Tuesday with a handful of tweaks, including a new title that heeds criticism from self-advocates with autism.

Tuesday's mark-up changed the House Combating Autism Reauthorization Act into the Autism Collaboration, Accountability Research, Education and Support (CARES) Act.

Individuals with autism had protested the original title as "hurtful and stigmatizing" in a June 2 letter to lawmakers.

HHS will be looking into the needs of autistic children as they transfer into adulthood? I can't wait to see how they cover this up too.

CNN

The cause of autism is still unknown, but researchers hope harnessing the power of Google will help them solve this neurodevelopmental puzzle.

The research and advocacy group Autism Speaks announced Tuesday they are collaborating with the Google Cloud Platform to build the largest autism genome database to date. The collaboration, known as The Autism Speaks Ten Thousand Genomes Program (AUT10K), will combine extensive DNA databases with cloud storage technology, in hopes of "moving mountains" in autism research, according to a press release.

Some things will never change. We are descending into an abyss of autism that will bankrupt our country eventually. Meanwhile, we keep pretending it's just better diagnosing/genetic disorder/no real increase. What a better way than a massive genome project? Yes, the numbers keep going up, but please don't ask why. NO ONE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT IT. THEY ALL KNOW WHAT THE CAUSE IS---THAT'S WHAT THIS IS REALLY ALL ABOUT---COVERING IT UP.

Fox News

The cost of supporting people with autism spectrum disorders throughout their lives could be as high as $2.4 million per person, according to a new estimate....

In an editorial accompanying the new study, Paul Shattuck and Anne Roux of the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute at Drexel University in Philadelphia write that the analysis is "remarkable" given the lack of information on costs and outcomes among people with ASDs.

"For the person with autism, diagnosis is a doorway into a social role as a potential lifelong service user," they write. "For families, an autism diagnosis can also mean a lifetime of absorbing many of the financial and caregiving burdens associated with the disorder, especially in adulthood when the availability of societal supports diminishes."

There is something seriously wrong with this story.

There is no mention of the rate of autism (which is good when you're talking about a huge cost and vast number of people and you don't want to alarm anyone).

Notice that Michael Ganz's $3.2 million/individual from 2006 is no more.

'For families, an autism diagnosis can also mean a lifetime of absorbing many of the financial and caregiving burdens associated with the disorder, especially in adulthood when the availability of societal supports diminishes.'

This is crazy.  Fox News tells us that families will cover the cost when these children are adults.  It doesn't work that way.  These parents have spent all their money just to raise their disable children, how will their be able to support them as adults by themselves?  IT'S THE TAXPAYERS WHO WILL BE SHOULDERING THIS BURDEN.  THIS ISN'T EVEN MENTIONED HERE.  I see young adults with autism here in WI getting additional respite and services as they age out of school.  When parents are too old or ill to care for their children, it's the state that will have to take over.  WHAT ELSE IS THERE?

This shocking story was out in Canada last year.  These parents had to turn their autistic son over to the state.  They couldn't keep him safe any longer.

THIS STORY IS THE PROOF THAT AUTISM HASN'T ALWAYS BEEN AROUND.  NOTICE: We're told we don't know enough about autistic adults. We don't even know what their live expectancy is.  We don't know if they have more health conditions in addition to the autism.  WHY?  Why have stories always been about CHILDREN?  Why are adults now a problem?

Regarding the Autism Speaks paper and the cost of autism please seem my new article:

http://www.ageofautism.com/2014/06/still-covering-up-the-new-autism-speaksjama-study-of-the-cost-of-autism.html

Science is pure. People are corrupt.

It is worth highlighting these paragraphs from the article from The Hill:

'Lawmakers also changed the office responsible for a study on the needs of autistic children as they transition to adulthood and the services available to them.

The report will be conducted by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in coordination with other federal entities, not the Government Accountability Office.'

A study by the GAO would be closer to the truth than one by the HHS.
