Good news for parents with children who have autism. A new Harvard study shows more high-functioning children with autism are going to college. KSTP reporter Brandi Powell spent some time at a local autism treatment center, and learned the latest on how the Minneapolis Somali community will soon benefit from a first-of-its-kind program.

For the Minneapolis Somali community autism is a foreign concept. "We don't even have a word for autism in our language," Mariam Mohamed said. She's a project consultant. "This is something very hard for our community to understand." Without knowing what it is, how can you combat it? "So imagine how hard that is for mothers," Mohamed said.

This is ridiculous. Among the Somalis in Minnesota, the children tend to have the severe form of autism. I hardly think that the "good news" about more ASD kids going to college is going to apply to them.

WHAT IS MAKING THESE CHILDREN SO SICK? WHY CAN'T ANYONE TELL US?

No one seems interested.  I posted a comment.

Not if Jenny McCarthy has anything to say about it. The former Playboy model and current co-host of "The View" is a leading light of the anti-vaccine movement. She has a boy with autismlike symptoms that she is convinced were caused by the vaccine for measles, mumps, and rubella. You can credit her passion for her child, sympathize with her heartbreak - and still cringe at her wholly irrational cause.

This is the second time in two days where stories say McCarthy's son didn't really have autism.  I have a feeling April is going to turn into APRIL: VACCINES DON'T CAUSE AUTISM MONTH.  I posted comments.

About half of Americans agree with at least one medical conspiracy theory, a new study suggests.

The study surveyed more than 1,300 Americans to see whether they agreed with six popular medical conspiracy theories - such as the discredited link between vaccines and autism, or the belief that water fluoridation is a cover-up to allow companies to dump dangerous chemicals into the environment. . . .

The most commonly endorsed theory was the belief that the Food and Drug Administration is "deliberately preventing the public from getting natural cures for cancer and other diseases because of pressure from drug companies." More than a third of Americans, or 37 percent, agreed with this statement.

Twenty percent agreed with the statement: "Health officials know that cell phones cause cancer but are doing nothing to stop it because large corporations won't let them." The vaccine-autism link was supported by 20 percent of participants.

I’m inclined to think that this whole “study” of 1,300 people was designed to once again announced that the link between vaccines and autism has beendiscredited.” My comments aren’t showing up.

Who is Chris Hayes and have never watched MSNBC.
But a quick look, I see he and his wife just had a daughter in 2011.
So, is he reporting the news, or his he reporting what he is paid to report as he protects his own?

That is my greatest concern.

Did anyone see Chris Hayes' segment on "those crazy medical conspiracy theorists" on MSNBC? He's now on my don't watch list with Anderson Cooper. Who does he think he is anyway?

One has to wonder

Mike Adams has a great article out to contact the propaganda being put out on mainstream media. His article is called, "10 Medical Conspiracies that Really Happened."

Just as an aside, is it me or do some of the bashers attacking Kristin, Jenny or anyone who dares publicly admit that they have not vaccinated according to schedule, sound a bit like they have buyer's remorse? Like maybe they got sucked in and gave the vaccs to their child up to the hilt and maybe they now question it all a bit? Maybe their child has ADHD or asthma, seizures or whatever and deep down they wonder- I mean they aren't all pharma trolls (though there probably are a lot of them!)

Many teachers do not vaccinate or at least to the schedule- them being the ones who are seeing the real numbers of problems with the students now.

I believe it is probably true to say that the confused field of discussion on the autism question (there is now only one question in town; what is the cause of autism) is fed by lazy journalism. It allows the massively monied vaccine makers to get away with preposterous statements. Here's a different take on that. If not vaccinating, as Offit and Gates say will kill thousands of kids by the return of long forgotten killer diseases, why haven't the Amish and HomeFirst populations been killed off by Measles? or Diphtheria etc?

You know how we always wonder how they get away with lying about vaccine safety, studies, side effects and autism? I am not defending Kevin Trudeau by any stretch, but this guy has just been sentenced to 10 years in prison for making false claims in infomercials and books:

Let's see...vaccines cause autism...check, fluoridation dumps dangerous chemicals into the water...check, natural and other treatments suppressed...check, health officials know that cell phones cause cancer but the telecommunications industry won't let them do anything about it (the industry sued San Francisco for trying to pass a law that would require posters to educate consumers on safe use of cell phones wherever they are sold) ...check,

the Huffington Post publishes propaganda...check.

re the JAMA survery: The whole premise under assuming the phrase "consipiracy theory" in a "research" survey suggests bias and the wording of these questions tends to push anyone with a significant concern regarding any of these issues but not sure of all the facts to fall into what appears to be a neutral or possibly disagreeing position, but what stands out to me is how, even with rather absolutist phrasing of these issues, one could also take from these results that less than half of those in the survey, on all but one of these issues, had confidence in their government/healthcare institutional integrity.

Thank you, Anne, for your tireless work keeping an eye on the countless lies being told day in and day out across our country via various media outlets, and for tirelessly countering the endless lies.

These journalists are so incredibly lazy, incompetent, and unethical. They seemingly all cut and paste from the same database, and their articles must take them less than 10 min. to write due to nothing more than cutting and pasting previous lies. Apparently, if you are good at cutting and pasting what Big Pharma wants media outlets to say/write, you've got yourself a secure job.

You are a force to be reckoned with, Anne, and as a parent of vaccine-injured children, one with "autism", I thank you!
