Individuals diagnosed between 21 and 65 years of age account for about 9 percent of the new cases - but their proportion also significantly increased over the time frame of the study. Like girls, many of the adults are diagnosed with higher-functioning forms of autism, such as Asperger syndrome and PDD-NOS.

"If the incidence [in adults] is increasing, it just has to do with recognition of cases that have been missed up to that age," Fombonne says. "It cannot be that you develop autism at age 50."

Higher numbers don't mean more autism. Notice the increase in adults with autism--it's adults they missed 50 years ago. We're all set for April. Stories about no real increase are everywhere (at the same time the latest study in the news links the autism increase to pollution). No matter, no one is ever worried about autism.

Look at the reassuring words in this story: 'interesting,' 'There's much more awareness of autism,' "Better diagnostic practices," and "increased attention to autism" to explain what's happening.

Eric Fombonne and Maureen Durkin are the focus of this story--two people who've spent years telling us autism is normal and acceptable part of the human condition.

Millions will continue to be poured into a bottomless pit of worthless research. No one in charge will ever honestly look at any aspect of autism. That's why the rate is never anything to worry about. Studies continue to tell us bad genes and bad choices by moms cause autism. No one will look for the adults. No one will look at regressive autism. And that's why we'll CELEBRATE AUTISM FOR A WHOLE MONTH. It's the only thing we can do.

A quick search shows SFARI has no intention of honestly addressing the cause of autism

Forbes

Only problem is, the study in question provided no evidence of causes, much less a link to pollution–and even if we took other studies alleging a link at face. value, it wouldn’t even be the same kind of “pollution.” As it is, the authors of this paper didn’t look at “pollution” of any kind. They looked at genital malformations present at birth and claimed that these conditions serve as a proxy or substitute for the presence of “pollution.”

They don’t, and no reports have established that they could.

This study has several big issues that water down any possible take-homes. In brief, they used genital malformations present at birth, such as hypospadias (the opening of the urethra, where urine emerges, is lower than it should be), cryptorchidism (undescended testes), chordee (curved penis), and micropenis (says what it means) and examined their geographic co-occurrence with autism diagnoses using insurance records.

Emily Willingham won't ever concede the possibility that autism has environmental triggers. Or that there's been a real increase.

She's the true believer in studies show no link---EVER, to anything other than bad genes.

WND Commentary http://www.wnd.com/2014/03/research-confirms-antidepressant-autism-link/

Virtually every study shows increased rates of developmental delay in children.

I remember when studies came out saying there was a connection between antidepressants and autism. I thought it was a step in the right direction. Then studies showed--oops---there is no link. (Obviously a nice coincidence for pharma.)

This story is by David Kupelian, who's an award-winning journalist. He decries the media cover-up of the science linking antidepressants taken by pregnant women to the development of autism. He points to the corrupting influence of the pharmaceutical industry.

Do antidepressants cause autism? Probably. It's more chemical exposures during the most vulnerable stage of life.

And if Kupelian thinks antidepressants are bad, he should look at what's been hidden about vaccines and autism--or does he believe the claim that studies show no link?

Central FL Future

Autism is a condition that has been recognized since the 1940s, but our understanding is only now coming to fruition. Awareness has grown, especially in the last 20 to 30 years: from the days of blaming the disorder on “refrigerator mothers” to Sheldon’s Asperger’s-like behavior on Big Bang Theory, “autism” is a disorder immediately recognized by most people today.

This from the student newspaper from the University of Central Florida.

The story about autism is all over the place.  We're told many things: There is no epidemic. They changed the diagnosis and there is "increased awareness." The agency that runs the vaccine program says there is no link to their vaccines. There might be a link, we just need to vaccinate safely.

The writer is satisfied to leave everything ONE BIG MYSTERY, just like professional reporters do. Oh yes, early intervention is important.  I posted comments.

Fox 10 Phoenix

For years, we've heard that women shouldn't wait too long to have children because, but now it seems that men approaching their forties should be watching the clock as well.

Some scientists say a father's age could account for 20 to 30 percent of autism cases. It may also be linked to the risk of developing schizophrenia.

A study published in the journal called, "nature" looked at the genetic codes of 78 families with no history of mental illness who gave birth to a child with autism.

Old dads are responsible for 20 to 30 percent of autism cases? And if old moms are responsible for the other 70 percent, the mystery of autism is solved.

This is meaningless junk science that couldn't possibly explain what's happening to our children. Every couple of days another autism guess is publicized. More wasted research.

Listen to the news people talk about this study and autism. Words like "fascinating" and "interesting" turn autism into a medical curiosity.

They describe autism as "a mental illness."

Notice the phrase, "gave birth to a child with autism," as if to imply that these kids are genetic defective and it's the dad's fault.

It's also impressive to have a doctor on camera cautioning us that the science points to older dads.

"Unfortunately, there is not a test available to check for the mutations that could cause autism."  I posted a comment.

Fox News

While the underlying causes of autism are still not fully understood, many health experts believe that genetics, environmental factors or a combination of the two are to blame.

Now, a new meta-analysis has revealed that toxins in the environment may play a much more significant role in the formation of this neurodevelopmental disorder than previously thought.

In a new study published in the journal PLOS Computational Biology, researchers from the University of Chicago examined medical records from more than 100 million people living in the United States. Their analysis revealed that autism and intellectual disability (ID) rates correlated at the county level with incidences of genital malformations in newborn males.

According to the researchers, this association is an indicator of exposure to harmful environmental factors during congenital development.

"Essentially what happens is during pregnancy there are certain sensitive periods where the fetus is very vulnerable to a range of small molecules - from things like plasticizers, prescription drugs, environmental pesticides and other things," study author Andrey Rzhetsky, a professor of genetic medicine and human genetics at the University of Chicago, told FoxNews.com. "...And some of these small molecules essentially alter normal development. It's not really well known why, but it's an experimental observation, especially in boys and especially in the reproductive system." . . .

Rzhetsky acknowledged that his results do not directly implicate environmental factors as a cause for autism; but because he and his team controlled for so many other potential factors, and congenital malformations varied so widely within the United States, Rzhetsky believes the environmental interpretation is particularly strong. . . .

Anytime Dr. Rzhetsky's study is mentioned it should be pointed out THAT HE LINKED AUTISM TO VACCINES. I said so in my comment.

Chicago Tribune

Experts warned against the dangers of following celebrity advice after reality star Kristin Cavallari acknowledged Thursday that she and husband Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler decided not to vaccinate their children.

When directly asked whether she was opposed to vaccines during an appearance on the Fox Business Network program, The Independents, Cavallari said, "we don't vaccinate." The reason? "I've read too many books about autism and the studies," she said.

But some wondered what Cavallari had been reading. The supposed association between childhood shots and autism has been debunked by scientific studies involving millions of children and a lack of evidence for it. . . .

Homefirst Health Services, meanwhile - if that's what Cavallari meant - is a Rolling Meadows-based pediatrics practice that embraces home births and shuns vaccines. Dr. Mayer Eisenstein and his practice were the subject of a 2009 Chicago Tribune investigation that shed light on the use of potentially dangerous alternative autism treatments. On the Homefirst website, Eisenstein maintains that "personal religious convictions, not scientific

The Daily Beast

The explanation is simple, and is as accessible as the nightly news. Vaccine-deniers are responsible to the resurgence of once-eliminated illnesses. Their movement is responsible for sickening people. They are to blame for the word “outbreak” appearing in headlines from coast to coast.

The anti-vaccine crowd may think they’re only making a decision for their own family. In fact, they’re threatening to make the rest of us sick. Refusing to vaccinate your children means you are contributing to a worsening public health crisis. There is no denying it, and there is no point in sugar-coating it.

This coverage will continue as long as we keep pretending autism is a genetic disorder that's always been around.

That message is everywhere in the news. Blame parents' genes for autism and blame parents for not vaccinating.

So re: the flu research, Linda. What they found is that the majority of unvaccinated people do NOT get sick from the flu, even when a flu germ is in their body. So the vague medical opinion that all people need to get a flu shot so that they do not get sick from the flu is an invalid assumption. So they've now proven that most people have no need for the flu vaccine, that their immune systems already handle the situation. That's supportive of the small study done in 2011 that showed flu could instigate an immune response and the person may never show symptoms. Love that!
http://www.infectioncontroltoday.com/news/2011/08/researchers-find-wide-gap-in-immune-responses-of-ppeople-exposed-to-flu-virus.aspx

Now, with epigenetics in hand combined with all the recent improvements in lab testing, they should soon be able to figure out what is lacking in those WITH flu symptoms in order to support them and improve their individual responses WITHOUT unconstitutionally forcing medical intervention on the overwhelming majority of people who obviously DON'T require it, thereby saving our citizens and medicare/medicaid/Obamacare/insurance companies/military establishments tons of money and time! Maybe there is coming a time when you can get tested and PROVE that your are healthy and get a vaccine medical exemption not just due to bad health, but due to GOOD health! And maybe that, in turn, could improve our discrimination laws, so that one cannot be discriminated against in the work place or schools for being healthy (which could really help nurses right now and preschoolers in NY), kind of how when AIDS first reared its ugly head and that young boy way back when had to fight against being kicked out of school for being HIV positive. How nice to not be threatened to get kicked out of preschool just because you have a strong immune system!

Oops, I got the wrong title for the upcoming documentary.
That's "Bought", as in money talks.

I'll bet the reason Forbes has so many articles about vaccines and autism is to assure investors that nothing bad is going to happen to the stock market. Anyone who spends time on internet news hears about the controversy, so the Forbes articles are meant to negate the internet news. I think we'll see even more from Forbes on vaccines, GMOs and pharmaceuticals in general once the "Broken" documentary is released.

I am very disappointed that SFARI would run a story about a Danish study that clings to the outdated idea that so called "better awareness leading to more diagnosing" is the reason for the enormous autism increase. We know better. SFARI, a web site deveoted to autism research, also seems to focus on the genetics of autism and downplays environmental factors that are contributing to the autism increase. That autism, with a few exceptions like Retts and Fragile X, is primarily an epigenetic condition.

Here's a head scratcher for you, a report of a new study from The Lancet. Try following this convoluted garbage:

"75 Percent of People Infected With Flu Have No Symptoms: Study"

[excerpt:]

Researchers analyzed data gathered in England during the winter flu seasons between 2006 and 2011, including the 2009 H1N1 "swine flu" pandemic.

Overall, about 18 percent of unvaccinated people became infected with an influenza virus, but only 23 percent of them went on to develop flu symptoms, the researchers reported March 16 in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine.

What's more, only about 17 percent of infected people became ill enough to see a doctor, the British study found. And compared with some of the seasonal flu strains, the 2009 swine flu strain actually caused much milder symptoms.

The findings suggest that relying on data about flu-related visits to primary care doctors underestimates the extent of flu infections and illnesses, the researchers said."

If people weren't sick enough to go to a doctor and if people sick enough to go to the doctor most of the time aren't tested for flu anyway, exactly HOW DO THEY KNOW ALL THIS? LOL. Of course, the article doesn't end on a happy note since discovering that the flu isn't as bad as they once thought. No, it's even worse because now you don't know who is sick and who isn't, because those infected don't usually feel a thing, according to the researcher. Never mind that unlike those needing yearly vaccines, that those naturally infected develop long-lasting immunity, so that they can't become infected with the same strain in the future.

But the Lancet retracted the paper by Dr. Wakefield and his colleagues. What a farce.

Forbe's readers must be sick of Emily

Kristina, lol, your probably right plus half of their readers probably don't vaccinate or at least to the full schedule anyhow since we know the higher the education the less likely it is. I'm sure they don't appreciate the biased genetics crap people like Emily force down their throats.

"This story is by David Kupelian, who's an award-winning journalist."

I'm only familiar with Kupelian by virtue of mentions at the blog "Right Wing Watch." What concerns me here is the "award-winning" attribution: It seems to be repeated often, but the only award that I can find is a third-place ribbon from the Amy Foundation in 2006 for the essay "What's behind Today's Epidemic of Teacher-Student Sex?"

Is there something more that I'm missing?

Kristina

I imagine the readers of Forbes are getting pretty tired of all those articles about vaccines and autism. I don't think that's what they were expecting when they subscribed.
