Mar 17, 2013, Lafayette LA Advertiser: Autism events to raise awareness, funds this weekend

"Autism is a common developmental disorder that affects the brain's normal development of social and communication skills. The severity and characteristics vary greatly from person to person."

A common disorder?  And no one cares why it's happening.

I guess when everyone has an autistic child the epidemic will be over. Autism will be part of us.

Mar 17, 2013, The (Oshkosh WI) Northwestern: Family reaches beyond autism

"The single Green Bay mom has three sons: Rykar Wilson, 9, and twins Braeden and Gordon Wilson, 7. The boys each have some type of developmental disability - and tons of energy. They don't sit or stop much until it's time for bed, Jones said."

We are so accepting. One child, two children, three children affected by developmental disorders in one family. It's increasingly stunning to see these stories about disabled children. No one seems to care why this is a way of life for so many parents---even the parents themselves don't ask why. We have as a country surrendered our children to autism.

Mar 16, 2013, ABC6 Columbus OH: Autism Lawsuit

"The State of Ohio and the Department of Developmental Disabilities are facing a federal lawsuit after a woman says state workers are abusing her autistic son.

"Myra Tanksley filed the suit last month on behalf of her son Marquis Tanksley, 19, who a probate court judge placed at the Columbus Departmental Center since last November. That's after Marquis ran from his apartment and health care worker, ran naked through a neighboring church playground and was arrested by police. A municipal court judge blamed the health care aide for the charges for not taking better care of Marquis. Now Myra Tanksley says his care is even worse."

Heartbreaking to read and more stories like this are sure to come.  I posted a comment.

Mar 15, 2013 Fox8 Cleveland: Autistic Child Found Living in Cage

"The parents of a child with autism, who prosecutors said was found locked in a cage in an O'Fallon, Missouri basement, are now facing felony Child Endangerment charges.

"Victoria Smith and Terry Smith of O'Fallon, MO are charged with felony Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the First Degree. The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed the charges after a two-and-a-half year investigation."

Here was my posted comment:

As frightening as this story is, it needs to be pointed out that there are continuously stories in the news about autistic children being abused, neglected, bullied, restrained and put in seclusion in our schools and treatment center.

Alex Jones interviews Shawn Siegel, host of The Vaccine Myth: An Issue of Trust, and Marcella Piper-Terry, co-founder of VaxTruth.org. Alex handed the overdrive hour to Shawn and Marci. The discussion covered the polio vaccine deception, VAERS - the broken Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System - informed consent, the gut/brain connection and biomedical treatment as a successful tool for recovery from neurological disorders, including autism.

Patheos Press
"I helped Lil D get ready for school this morning, as I always do. Wake up, go to the bathroom, strip sheets that have been dirtied by yet another accident, brush teeth, change clothes, downstairs for breakfast. Put lunch in his backpack, and when the time comes, put the harness on and escort him to the bus.

"Lil D has worn a harness on the bus for years. On the special needs bus my son rides, you need to be in a harness if you have a tendency to leave your seat, encroach others or have meltdowns....

"The Year of Autism Hell

"I've also been thinking a lot about the last year of autism hell. Anyone who reads this blog knows our story - the year when Lil D's health and behaviors deteriorated to a point of utter pain and despair. The year when self-injurious behavior became an unwelcome inhabitant of our house, an ugly, awful visitor who wouldn't leave no matter what we did. The year when I reached my breaking point, but by the grace of God pushed on through until we figured some of the mystery out...."
This is very good. This woman has a severely affected son with autism. Her husband is a doctor and it sounds like they've done biomedical and gotten good results. She mentions Age of Autism's coverage of Alex---and if she's reading AoA, she obviously hearing about vaccines and autism. I'm sure she could see her own son in Alex's position. She's also worried about the future.

KSTP-TV Minneapolis/St Paul

"MN Kids Store Caters to Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
"A popular Minnesota based kids store is helping families identify the best toys for children with autism spectrum disorder.

"Creative Kidstuff says CK Autism is a first of its kind program, developed out of customer need.

"The store partnered with St. David's Center Child and Family Development to pick out toys for certain skill sets.

"It is also training staff to know what to ask parents like Cari Wegner, whose 6 year old son Gabe has been diagnosed with autism."

We're adjusting quite well to the autism epidemic, don't you think? Pretty soon lots of places with declare themselves "autism friendly," having a trained staff, soft lights, and low noise levels. They'll probably display the autism puzzle piece ribbon to identify themselves. They'll offer products and accommodations for affected children. Autism is now an accepted part of childhood. I can hardly remember a time when autism wasn't being talked about everywhere.

Corvallis (OR) Gazette Times
"A former head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is scheduled to speak at Oregon State University next month on building public-private partnerships to improve health care while lowering costs.

"Dr. Julie Gerberding, the first woman to direct the CDC, is to present "Becoming the Healthiest Nation" at 7 p.m. April 3 at a free, public event in the LaSells Stewart Center, 875 S.W. 26th St.
"Gerberding is now president of the vaccine division of the pharmaceutical company Merck. During her tenure as CDC director from 2002 to 2009, the federal agency expanded its efforts in disaster preparedness, bioterrorism response, preventing pandemics and addressing emerging global health threats."

Public-private partnerships?  Give me a break.  Why don't we just let the drug industry openly run our health care agencies?
