Ask CBS News to Cover the Issa Autism Hearing on Thursday
Congressman Darryl Issa is holding a hearing to review the Federal Response to Autism this Thursday. (The photo is of San Diego area families who went to Congressman Issa's office before Thanksgiving.)
1) Please ask CBS, home of Sharyl Attkisson, to cover the hearings. [email protected]
2) Send a message to Congress telling them why you, a parent of a child with autism, can not attend, how much the integrity of the hearing means to you and your family. We need answers and action to address the abysmal government progress to date.
Here are four documents you can review to give you additional background.
MEMORANDUM REGARDING MISCONDUCT BY THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AND THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES DURING THE OMNIBUS AUTISM PROCEEDING AS TO THE EXPERT OPINIONS OF DR. ANDREW ZIMMERMAN

Do we know who is testifying? Is there a list of speakers? Is anyone from AoA speaking? Are the parents who are speaking coordinating on this?
I hope all autism parents speaking at the hearing stay on message, stay focused and show a united front when speaking. Repeating key messages is important.
Some key talking points I see:
* Alarming rise 1 in 88 American children and 1 in 54 American boys; a 78% increase since 2002
* The autism increase is NOT due to so called better diagnosing which only accounts for about 26% of the cases.
* We need coordinated medical treatment for our kids to address host of issues (GI to brain inflammation/ haywire immune and neurological system)
* We need education of doctors on complex medical esp. immune issues related to autism
* Scicne shows that autism is primarily medical not psychiatric
* We need effective drugs that support the immune system and money to go into drug development
* We need for housing and services into the future
* Need for increased public education and education of people in the gov't
* Autism is very costly (include some stats on costs)
* The Autism crisis has far reaching reprecusions to family, community, schools, taxpayers and future of our country

You should care more that they originally left out autistic adults to testify.
