This bill amends the Illinois Autism Insurance Mandate to prevent children from potentially losing insurance coverage for services due to proposed upcoming changes to the DSM-V (Diagnostic Statistics Manual version 5) used in psychiatry.

It also adds language to bring awareness for underlying and co-morbid medical conditions that may also occur in a child with autism, such as seizure disorders, immune deficiencies, gastrointestinal conditions, mitochondrial dysfunction, allergies and metabolic disturbances. Too often these conditions go undiagnosed and untreated because a child has a diagnosis of autism.
