AB499 and Governor Brown: CDC Page on Gardasil & Cevarix HPV Vaccine Adverse Reports

Cdclogo As Governor Jerry Brown of California decides whether or not to sign or veto AB499, which would allow vaccination of children as young as 12 with HPV vaccines without parental consent, many in the vaccine safety community have expressed concern. This will lead many in the vaccine injury denial community to slough off the concern as coming from the "insert derogatory name here" crowd. You know what they call us.....    Below is the CDC page on both genital wart vaccines. There are real risks associated with them - risks that should not preclude parental involvement in a child 12 - 17 years of age.

Reports of Health Concerns Following HPV Vaccination

    * VAERS Limitations
    * HPV Vaccine Safety
    * VAERS Reports Following Gardasil®
    * VAERS Reports Following Cervarix®
    * Summary

VAERS Limitations

VAERS data cannot be used to prove a causal association between the vaccine and the adverse event. The only association between the adverse event and vaccination is temporal, meaning that the adverse event occurred sometime after vaccination. Therefore, the adverse event may be coincidental or it may have been caused by vaccination, however we cannot make any conclusions that the events reported to VAERS were caused by the vaccine.

HPV Vaccine Safety

There are two licensed HPV vaccines, Gardasil®  and Cervarix®, available to protect against the types of HPV infection  that cause most cervical cancers. Gardasil®  was licensed for use in females, age 9-26 years  in June 2006 and for males age 9-26 years in Oct 2009. Cervarix®  was licensed for use in females age 10-25 in October 2009.

The safety of HPV vaccines was studied in clinical trials worldwide before licensure. For Gardasil® , over 29,000 males and females participated in these trials. For Cervarix®, over 30,000 females participated in several clinical trials.

Since licensure, CDC and FDA have been closely monitoring the safety of HPV vaccines. There are 3 systems used to monitor the safety of vaccines after they are licensed and used in the U.S. These systems can monitor adverse events already known to be caused by vaccines, as well as detect rare adverse events that were not identified during pre-licensure clinical trials. The 3 systems are:

    * The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS)–a useful early warning public health system that helps CDC and FDA detect possible side effects or adverse events following vaccination.
    * The Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) Project–a collaboration between CDC and 10 health care organizations which monitors and evaluates adverse events following vaccination.
    * The Clinical Immunization Safety Assessment (CISA) Network– a collaboration between6 academic centers in the U.S. which conduct research on adverse events that might be caused by vaccines.

Reports to VAERS Following Gardasil®

As of June 22, 2011, approximately 35 million doses of Gardasil® were distributed in the U.S. and VAERS received a total of 18,727 reports of adverse events following Gardasil® vaccination: 17,958 reports among females and 346 reports for males, of which 285 reports were received after the vaccine was licensed for males in October 2009. VAERS received 423 reports of unknown gender. Of the total number of VAERS reports following Gardasil®, 92% were considered to be non-serious, and 8% were considered serious.
Non-serious adverse event reports

VAERS defines non-serious adverse events as those other than hospitalization, death, permanent disability, or life-threatening illness.

The vast majority (92%) of the adverse events reports following Gardasil®  vaccination have included fainting, pain, and swelling at the injection site (the arm), headache, nausea, and fever. Syncope (fainting) is common after injections and vaccinations, especially in adolescents. Falls after fainting may sometimes cause serious injuries, such as head injuries, which can be prevented by closely observing the person for 15 minutes after vaccination.

Serious adverse event reports

Any VAERS report that indicated hospitalization, permanent disability, life-threatening illness, congenital anomaly or death is classified as serious. As with all VAERS reports, serious events may or may not have been caused by the vaccine.
Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS)

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) has been reported after vaccination with Gardasil® . GBS is a rare neurologic disorder that causes muscle weakness. It occurs in 1-2 out of every 100,000 people in their teens. A number of infections have been associated with GBS. There has been no indication that Gardasil® increases the rate of GBS above the rate expected in the general population, whether or not they were vaccinated.

Blood Clots

There have been some reports of blood clots in females after receiving Gardasil®. These clots have occurred in the heart, lungs, and legs. Most of these people had a risk of getting blood clots, such as taking oral contraceptives (the birth control pill), smoking, obesity, and other risk factors.

Deaths

As of June 22, 2011 there have been a total 68 VAERS reports of death among those who have received Gardasil® . There were 54 reports among females, 3 were among males, and 11 were reports of unknown gender. Thirty two of the total death reports have been confirmed and 36 remain unconfirmed due to no identifiable patient information in the report such as a name and contact information to confirm the report. A death report is confirmed (verified) after a medical doctor reviews the report and any associated records. In the 32 reports confirmed, there was no unusual pattern or clustering to the deaths that would suggest that they were caused by the vaccine and some reports indicated a cause of death unrelated to vaccination.

VAERS Reports Following Cervarix®

Since licensed in October 2009, uptake of Cervarix® vaccination in the U.S. has been low. As of June 2011, there have been 39 VAERS reports of adverse events following Cervarix® vaccination in the U.S. The majority of these reports (97%) were considered to be non-serious.

Cervarix® has also been in use in other countries such as England and Europe prior to licensing from the FDA.

Summary

Based on all of the information we have today, CDC recommends HPV vaccination for the prevention of most types of cervical cancer. As with all approved vaccines, CDC and FDA will continue to closely monitor the safety of HPV vaccines. Any problems detected with these vaccines will be reported to health officials, healthcare providers, and the public and needed action will be taken to ensure the public's health and safety.

“Repeal HPV Vaccine for Girls—Not a Dream: Commonwealth of Virginia House of Delegates Passed Such a Bill” by Catherine J. Frompovich on January 28th, 2012.

Governors Perry (TX) and Brown (CA) would do well to take note and to examine their consciences! They should ask themselves whether any deaths and permanent disabilities occurred by reason of their mandated inoculations. How should history judge them?

Something to think about:

"Dr. Thomas Broker: It is my contention right now that instead of 80 HPV genotypes or 150 that have been officially named, that there probably are millions of variants, virtually a continuum. We feel that basically everybody has their own personal microflora, that these are passively acquired or vertically acquired, not necessarily sexually, but certainly possibly sexually, and that they simply are part of the human condition as are microflora, just as we have microflora composed of bacteria and many other viruses, and that they basically are utterly ubiquitous....There are staggeringly large number of genotypes if we take the care to look. I might say that the reason these are typically not found is that people use generic cross-hybridizing probes or have cut off their probe sets. If you're not probing for something, you are not going to see it."

What is the difference between an HPV infection and disease? I saw that Merck notes that Gardasil does not prevent HPV infection on product insert. I can't find the difference. I called Merck and asked them. They first said there was no difference and then when I brought up their claim they said I would have to have a health care provider to call them. They were very friendly and I was on my best behaviour acting like I'm a mom with young girls that realy wants to do this vaccine. The representative said all he could do is recite what was writen on the website; this was the third person I was referred to. I basically came away from the conversation that Merck is still debating what came first the chicken or the egg, or the infection or the disease?

Oh, I can't believe I like Michelle Bachman just a teeny bit!

This happened last year to a friend of mine:

She took her 14 year old daughter to see the pediatrician at the big HMO in their area. Pediatrician offers Gardasil, which mom politely and firmly declines. Pediatrician corners daughter when mom had stepped out and proceeded to scare the daughter by saying if the girl was raped, she could get HPV, which could lead to cancer, in which case she could DIE.

This was before AB 499. These are strong-arm tactics. Luckily daughter stood her ground against the pediatrician and said NO. But this is such an abuse of power, it is sickening. Once state law protects doctors like this, what chance do most kids have of saying NO to them? Doctors are under great pressure to get these vaccines into our children. Now they will have direct access to them, without parental knowledge. The thought makes my blood run cold.

There are so many other other infections the kids could pick up if they start early.Best to return to the past and
teach them about staying focused on their studies and value
their virginity.Forget about these toxic vaccines and change
the dress code to a more conservative non-sexual style.It is better to be safe and sorry.Get to know your child and have good discussion with your daughters,educate them,empower them.Allow them to see through the lies(pharma advertisenment-gardasil).

I meant to say Hollywood horror movie.

This is so shocking that all I can say is that it's unbelievable. An epidemic of disabling individuals from vaccines and the people who are in charge of the vaccine program not only don't care, but keep increasing the awful situation. Sounds more like a Holiday horror movie than reality.

Gov. Perry of Texas passed, by Executive Order, mandatory vaccination HPV with an "opt out" by parents. He admitted last week that if he had it to do over again, he would have put it before the state legislature.

His justification for this action was that his "cure cancer initiative" included cervical cancer and therefore he wanted all girls to be vaccinated.

The absolute arrogance.

It's Mom and Daughter Puppet Time

School Nurse Puppet: Come here little 12 year old girl. I have something good for you. It will allow you to have sex safely without worry of warts.

12 year old California Girl puppet: No thank you, school nurse. Just like I stay away from strangers and look both ways before I cross the street, my parents have taught me school nurse and doctor safty. I say no to any vaccines for sexually transmitted disease that may cause injury or death. Stay away from me or I will sue you in federal court.

School Nurse: Your parents are wrong, and besides, I get a bonus for each vaccine I give out. And you wouldn't want the wonderful vaccine companies to lose money. It is good for society.

12 year old California Girl puppet: No, we rehearsed every angle of this. You are as bad as the Big Bad Wolf. I was well trained by my parents. Just like I stay away from strangers and look both ways before I cross the street, I have been taught doctor and nurse safety. Stay away from me or I will sue you in federal court. Good bye.

Dear God,,,, please don't make me have to go looking for doctor and nurse puppets. Honestly,,, this is all so very weird.

just a thought

".....there was no unusual pattern or clustering to the deaths that would suggest that they were caused by the vaccine and some reports indicated a cause of death unrelated to vaccination."

Ya, like the girl who might die in a car crash because a blood clot causes her to pass out...... Obviously has NOTHING to do with the recent vaccination.....

First  Do No Harm

If California offers Gardasil vaccines to 12-year-old girls due to the possibility of their being sexually active - but not wanting to tell their parents, then shouldn't California also be offering free, annual pap smears to all of these girls? After all, Gardasil only covers 70% of HPV's that cause cancer. I don't see the Gynecology lobby pushing for pap smears for 12-year-olds without parental consent, but it would make sense, wouldn't it? Gardasil will give these girls a false sense of being protected from HPV, and there will be no parent involved to educate them otherwise.

It's so obviously all about pharma profits. Disappointing that Gov. Brown has not already thrown this out.

Bob Moffitt

"Any VAERS report that indicated hospitalization, permanent disability, life-threatening illness, congenital anomaly or death is classified as serious. As with all VAERS reports, serious events may or may not have been caused by the vaccine."

VAERS instructions to doctors and pediatricians on reporting an adverse event:

"Please report all significant (serious?) adverse events that occur after vaccination of adults and children, even if you are not sure whether the vaccine caused the adverse event".

Since it has been reported that only 10% of doctors and pediatricians comply as requested by VAERS .. how can VAERS be certain that 90% of doctors and pediatricians are not routinely dismissing even suspected adverse events as not being "caused by the vaccine"?

In my humble opinion .. VAERS ought not leave the "reporting" of an adverse event to the highly subjective opinion of the doctors or pediatricians who just administered the vaccine.

Am I missing something here?

If you read the wording of the AB499 you see this:
"The minor’s parents or guardian are not liable for payment for medical care provided pursuant to this section."
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/11-12/bill/asm/ab_0451-0500/ab_499_bill_20110902_enrolled.pdf

This is a lesson in morality, PharmoCalifornian style:
It's OK if we seduce your child to vaccinate herself, with potentially deadly vaccine, without even informing you.
But, taking money out of your pocket without consent - oh no, no way! Here we must draw a line!
