As Autism Awareness Month Ends....

While the numbers skyrocket, kids get sicker, teens approach adulthood and adults cry out for assistance the mainstream media, skeptics, CDC, AAP,  and others continue to do this:

Autism is 24/7/365 and we need your help, support and work year round. We're thinking of something more like this:

Yes, it should be an international Mayday event! By all means.

Does your invitation extend to over here? It is not often we take our son out to a restaurant (food, behaviour etc).

Perhaps their should be more restaurants prepared to accommodate for children like my son (GF/CF and spillage galore with a restaurants attitude of "no worries, we'll just clean that up!") Very, very tactile son!

Of course, pole dancing isn't what it used to be.

I have been calling it Autism Indifference month.

Yeah. I was thinking on May 1 it should be called -
"Mayday Mayday Mayday." The international call of distress.

Mayday is an emergency code word used internationally as a distress signal in voice procedure radio communications. It derives from the French venez m'aider, meaning 'come help me'.

There is just so much distress caused by autism and it is a National/International Emergency. All families with child with autism could use a lot of help!

Mayday Autism - what a brilliant idea for an annual event! Maybe hold it the first Saturday in May?

It should be a day of protest - capped off with every autistic child and adult being taken out to dinner (or going out on their own, for those with the ability to do so.) Perhaps a restaurant chain will offer a special gf/cf meal for that one day.

John Stone, your comment made me LOL.

A few minutes before this post went up I commented on another thread:

'It is an interesting question at the end of Autism Political Smugness and Complacency Month what could possibly be gained by playing it the government's way?'

We might also call it Autism Empty Gesture Month.
