NY's Maloney and NJ's Smith Letter to HHS Secretary Sibelius for Vax/Unvax Study
Click HERE to read and comment on David Kirby's Huffington Post piece on a request for a vax/unvax study.
On Wednesday, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Rep. Christopher Smith (R-NJ) called on HHS Secretary Kathleen Sibelius to dedicate between 1.6% and 6.6% of the $300 million in federal stimulus funds earmarked for the purchase and distribution of vaccines to fund a major study of health outcomes -- including autism -- among vaccinated and unvaccinated people.
The move comes just one week after the federal government's National Vaccine Advisory Committee also unanimously voted to recommend a feasibility study on conducting the controversial investigation.
Some federal officials have balked at doing a vaccinated-unvaccinated study, citing its high cost -- which Maloney and Smith said would fall in the $5-$20 million range...
We just have to be real careful with study. I'm afraid we'll get hung with our own rope.
For instance, what will they find if use school waivers for the unvax. pop. without thinking. They'll find a bunch of kids with ASD diagnosis that had the full schedule up to 2 years and then wised up and backed out. I bet kids with school waivers for vaccines are about about 3 times as likely to HAVE as ASD diagnosis. School waivers doesn't mean unvax'ed, but we won't get time to explain that to the world after the huge headline gets printed, "Skipping MMR Booster Increases Likelihood of Autism, MMR protects against Autism"

I think a study of health outcomes of vaccinated and unvaccinated people would be very helpful. I admire the representatives' courage to step up and ask for a study which makes perfectly good sense.
As a nurse in a rural health community, our clinic sees hundreds of cases of upper respiratory infections, pneumonia, gastrointestinal problems, asthma and allergies, to name a few, in vaccinated children. I administer vaccines as a part of my job.
However, my 2 year old grandson has never been vaccinated and is very healthy. He has never even suffered from the common cold. I found this amazing because he is no different than any other child except that he has never recieved any childhood vaccinations. He has had several fevers in his short lifetime but he never developed any illness as a result of them. This shows how strong his immune system is.
I would be happy to participate in a health study of this type.

Thank you Rep. Maloney and Rep. Smith.
You are heroes and great friends to our community, especially you Rep. Maloney. We greatly appreciate you both

Yeah, that study's waaaay too expensive. I mean, on the high end, it could cost almost as much as lifetime care for 7 autistic individuals! I don't know what those crazy reps are thinking! Are they actually trying to help their constituents while saving the taxpayers billions of dollars in long-term disability?
