New York Times on Gardasil Vaccine's Meteoric Rise
Front page, above the fold in today's New York Times.
In two years, cervical cancer has gone from obscure killer confined mostly to poor nations to the West’s disease of the moment. Read the full article HERE.
There's another article today - much smaller - says the cost of life saved is $140,000. And that Paps are still the most effective way to go. NYT? It's good to see them treating Gardasil with the same journalistic integrity they treat other topics.

Holy cow, there's a Pharmaceutical Advertising and Marketing Excellence awards? Maybe we should all keep our "Green Our Vaccines" signs and shirts close at hand. Hmm, or maybe we should have our own awards ceremony.. that could go in so many directions!

What's amazing is that according to this study (http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/full/297/8/813) over 26% of women test positive for the HPV. Of these, only 2.3% have HPV 16 and 18, the type the vaccine protects against. In 90% of cases, the virus clears on its own. This means the vaccine protects only 0.23% of the population, not 100% as some imply.

After reading the NY TIMES piece, I have only one comment: FOLLOW THE MONEY.
