DR. HEALY: GOV'T TOO QUICK TO DISMISS VACCINE LINK
We'd like to see how the Offits, Tayloes and Gerberdings attempt to impugn "loudmouth" Dr. Bernadine Healy who says, "the government has been too quick to dismiss the possibility of a vaccine-autism link" in THIS CBS report by correspondent Sharyl Attkisson.
Today, a second round of autism test cases begins in federal vaccine court. Tonight on the CBS Evening News, we'll have exclusive interviews with the two families who are bringing the cases: two of nearly 5,000 autism cases that have been filed in this special court. The government and many scientists have consistently maintained for more than a decade that there is no link between vaccines and autism. The Institute of Medicine issued a report in 2004 that was intended to put the controversy to rest, saying that the weight of the body of scientific evidence does not show a causal link between vaccines and autism. However, other scientists and parents disagree.
For our report, we interviewed Dr. Bernadine Healy, the former head of the National Institutes of Health and a member of the Institute of Medicine who breaks with her colleagues in this exclusive CBS News interview: Dr. Healy says the government has been too quick to dismiss the possibility of a vaccine-autism link, and that it should be explored with renewed vigor.
appr
Is this as incredibly huge as I think it is? I am praying for all of us, and for Dr. Healy, too. She has chosen the humane path, and has made a break from the pack. They will try to impugn her, but her credentials are rock solid. She does not want her professional reputation and career to be forever interlinked with the demise of a generation of children as she knows the truth is finally coming out. Who can blame her? I applaud her courage for coming forward. May God bless her.

omg, wow. This is awesome. Does anyone know where I can find a transcript of this? I would love to share this with my congressman in this afternoon's meeting.

Regarding NECC and Bill A'Hole-sorry I meant Ahearn. He is nothing but Strully's foot soldier. If anyone has ever seen this guy speak at a conference all he does is talk about (over and over again) his ridiculous feeding program that consists of shoving crap food in a child's mouth and rewarding him with another piece of crap food.(like Skittles or M & M's) The parents who buy into this are really clueless. How about using a token system and actually feeding them gluten free/caesin free food?
And this line from Linda from this article where she states.."there is so much more we can be doing with the time and energy...." is the exact line that Strully and A'hole (sorry Ahearn) program into people there. This mother is like a robot just spewing out their crap. Sickening.

Anybody notice the "link to 60 studies" at the bottom of the CBS story on-line? Complete with 30 pages of summary of causation by Marcel Kinsbourne.
Apparently, gone are the days of "no scientific evidence."
I think this is a big shift.

It amazes me how brainwashed parents at this place can be. The Director sounds like he has a lot in common with Offit. Parents convey that he spends a lot of time convincing them that vaccines do not cause autism and that biomedical is pseudo science.....and they buy right into it. What Linda fails to convey here is that her son would be booted out of the place if she dared to intervene biomedically in any way as parents are required to sign paperwork banning them from any "alternative" practices and they are not permitted to see certain doctors. (mainly DAN doctors) Sounds like attending school in the town of Stepford.
Mom Focuses On Son As Autism Fight Goes To Court
Reporting
Ron Sanders SOUTHBOROUGH (WBZ) ― Harrison Shaffer is a student at the New England Center for Children, a private, non-profit autism education center in Southborough.
His mother, Linda, is thinking more about his future than what causes autism, the disability that limits his development and speech. "He already has autism. Nothing's going to change that. We are focusing on his quality of life and bettering it."
Linda is not part of the autism legal battle that includes nearly 4,900 families who contend thimerosal -- a mercury-based preservative in vaccines -- caused autism and other problems. But in 2004, the Institute of Medicine found no credible evidence to support that contention.
Thimerosal was removed from childhood vaccines in recent years. "And since that point in time, the prevalence rates of autism have continued to rise, which is counter to the idea that thimerosal is causing autism," explains Dr. Bill Ahern, Director of the New England Center for Children Research.
At the New England Center for Children, the focus is not so much on causes, who or what's to blame, but on treatment and education. "There's so much more we could be doing with the time and energy and particularly the money that's being spent on these hypotheses," said Dr. Ahern.
"I believe it's a number of things; environmental, genetics, perhaps the vaccinations," said Linda Shaffer. "I think if we focus in too many areas, we would lose sight of what we, as a family, are trying to achieve for our son."
When Harrison, who is 9, came to the center three years ago, he had an 18-month-old skill level. It's now equal to that of a 5-year-old, and his mother hopes someday he'll be able to go to college.
She says she cannot be consumed by the legal battle now underway.

What an absolutely wonderful interview!! It says so much that it's hard to believe it is real. God bless her and to all who continue to NOT "turn your back on the notion that there is a susceptible group"---

I am reminded of a letter, sent by a lawyer, to someone who "used" to be considered honorable, intelligent, with a fantastic CV and to have the highest credibility. He no longer did. Why?
As he said to the lawyer, "In answer to your question as to whether I could supply you with a list of 12 doctors with impeccable reputations and CV's who also question vaccines, I regret to reply that I can only provide you with a list of 12 doctors, who, the moment they spoke out against the party line, were immediately dismissed from their jobs, and later character assassinated with various forms of epithet. In this day and age, the doctors who can afford to speak their minds are the nearly retired, who will immediately be discreditted as "nearing dementia".
So, let us wait and see what character assassination is thrown now, at Dr Healy.
You can bet it won't be nice. But we may never get to hear most of it, as the worst of it will be said to her face. What we hear in public will be restrained because of the need to be seen to be reasonable.

Paging Dr. Healy:
Come on, Dr. Healy, that question *has* been answered. It's been answered in the affirmative--vaccines cause autism--and the door was slammed shut on that answer (you said it yourself).
You've come this far--just go for it!
Tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Tell it a little more clearly, a little louder still--let it all come out.
The more you tell it, the less shaky you'll feel when you tell it. You can be braver still.
Dr. Healy, let the healing begin.

Bravo, Dr. Bernadine Healy! Her frank comments will enable other medical professionals to come forward and press for positive change within the CDC. The winds are shifting, the tide is turning.

I am afraid I am going to wake up and discover that this is all a dream. Somebody pinch me :).

Dr. Healy's husband is Floyd D. Loop, former head of The Cleveland Clinic. They reside in one of NE Ohio's most affluent communities. He is in his 70's. Interesting that she is now speaking out after heading up NIH herself from '91 - '93, just as the autism epidemic was ratcheting up to full breakneck speed - restores my faith in the power of the conscience. Please keep talking, Dr. Healy.

This is an incredible admission. One can only hope she will be heard.
And Jane Johnson...you made me laugh on a pretty rough day. Thanks!

Brilliant! Bravo Dr Healy!

The only fan letter I've ever written was to Donny Osmond back in 1972. After seeing Dr. Healy's interview, I'm thinking about writing my second one. And perhaps a third, to the head of CBS News for having the spine to air it.

Isn't it refreshing to actually hear a voice of reason from a respected member of the government? I'd forgotten what it sounds like.
"The question has not been answered."
Thank you, Dr. Healy. Thank you.

. Usually simultaneous vaccination is incompletely studied at time of licensure.
. Under current infrastructure, prelicensure studies do not assess safety of two unlicensed vaccines administered simultaneously
(e.g., Tdap and MCV4 simultaneous administration was not studied before licensure).
. ACIP recommends simultaneous vaccination, unless contraindications are present (CDC, ACIP General Recommendations, 2006)."

And here I was losing hope, just generally having a bad day, and then this wonderful, beautiful woman says all of this. What can I say? I am awed. Talk about a wonderful end to a terrible day. It's a wonderful thing to get renewed hope like this. It feels so good to know that there are doctors and scientists who are on our side. And the thing that makes me so grateful, so humble, is that this incredible lady came forth and spoke her mind despite the ridicule and smearing that are sure to come her way. Oh, if only we had more doctors like her. Bless her for renewing my faith.

I wonder what kind of spin they'll put on Dr. Healy's statements? I'm with you JB, God bless her. She's pretty much just committed professional suicide.

God Bless her and her intellectual honesty. A woman of courage and integrity.
