I'm going to make this short and sweet. In 2014, Kat Von D and I got into it in 2013 on Twitter and elsewhere after I wrote a Huffington Post article on what I thought was a terribly offensive name for a lipstick. The name was "Celebutard," and the lipstick, while a gorgeous color, was ultimately pulled from Sephora's shelves, as you can read in this LA Times article that actually mentions me without the prefix anti-vaccine. Which brings me to Ms. Von D's latest issue. She's a famous tattoo artist and clearly not afraid of needles. She announced that she is not vaccinating during her pregnancy nor her baby once born. Kat Von D, welcome to the anti-vaccine club!
Look at this horrible headline from Jezebel: Kat Von D Comes Out as Anti-Vaccine, Which Is Really a Fucking Bummer
Check out this meme circulating on Twitter with the Hashtag #KatVonDisoverparty
She is making informed choices for her son-to-be about her diet, her delivery choice and the boy's medical care. From YahooNews:
“I also was prepared for the backlash and criticism we would get if we decided to be open about our personal approach to our pregnancy,” Von D continued. “My own father flipped out on me when I told him we decided to ditch our doctor and go with a midwife instead.
“If you don’t know what it’s like [to] have people around you think you are ridiculous, try being openly vegan. And, if you don’t know what it’s like to have the entire world openly criticize, judge, throw uninformed opinions, and curse you — try being a pregnant vegan, having a natural, drug-free home birth in water with a midwife and doula, who has the intention of raising a vegan child, without vaccinations.”
When it comes to vaccination choice, there is no #MeToo movement in the mainstream or celebrity world. We don't get a letter in the LGBTQQIAAP world of 2018. If you don't vaccinate 100% per the CDC schedule, you become a pariah. Ask Jenny the agony she has been through for having the courage of her convictions.
I hope we can all embrace Ms. Von D. I'm over the lipstickgate issue. She is a woman who needs our support. So let's offer it.
