As a journalist, I felt that we couldn't simply ignore these reports. That's why we had two mothers on the show who reported adverse reactions after their daughters had been vaccinated for HPV. One could hardly get out of bed for three years, and the other tragically died. There is no definitive proof that these two situations were related to the vaccine. Every life is important. However, the time spent telling these stories was disproportionate to the statistical risk attendant to the vaccines and greater perspective is needed.

The federal government has a system for reporting adverse reactions following immunization with any vaccine. For the 23 million doses of Gardasil distributed in the United States from 2006 to 2008, 12,424 adverse reactions were reported, a rate of 5.4 per 10,000 doses, and the vast majority of these were not serious. Furthermore, only 772 of the 12,424 adverse reactions were reported to be serious, a rate of 0.3 per 10,000 doses. These rates are extremely low.

I've tried to post the following comment on Huffington, but I'm unsuccessful with their new system:

Even health officials acknowledge that only 1 to 10 percent of adverse vaccine reactions are ever reported to VAERS, so these statistics really don't tell us what the HPV vaccine is doing to the health of those who get the shots.

For even daring to bring up the topic of vaccine side effects, Katie Couric was immediately labeled another Jenny McCarthy by news sites like TIME, USA Today, and the Washington Times. Linking vaccines to serious side effects, including death, opens the door to the controversy over vaccines and autism. The immediate backlash from media outlets was a dramatic lesson to any journalist who might consider looking into the issue of vaccine safety---DON'T TRY IT.

Problem behaviors of children with autism affect the child's ability to learn and can compromise the child's safety.

Irritability and agitation can bubble over into screaming, hitting, kicking, throwing tantrums, destroying things, rocking back and forth, and bolting away from parents or teachers.

Sometimes children turn the violent actions on themselves.

As answers are sought for what causes the condition, parents, the children, teachers and medical practitioners help manage this conduct through behavioral therapy, diet and medication.

"There are limitations to every approach. They shouldn't be mutually exclusive," said Adam Smith, a neuropsychologist with Richmond Behavioral Associates.

The Eltingville practice is participating in a study with about 30 centers around the country to evaluate the effect and safety of the FDA approved medication, Latuda, in the treatment of behavioral problems in autism.

I posted two comments. The link works. I hope Drs. DiBuono, Smith, and Joseph look at what's written there. Notice someone's comment about the side effects connected with this drug, Latuda.

My favorite line in the article was: "As answers are sought for what causes the condition..."

Although a lot of people avoid them, vaccines are recommended for a reason. They are designed to prevent us from contracting viruses that could make us very sick and, in some cases, kill us.

This year, cases of bacterial meningitis and measles are making news, even though there are vaccines for both.

Influenza, meningitis, whooping cough, measles. These are just a few illnesses that can be prevented, if we vaccinate ourselves and our children against them. . . . .

That could be in part because some are refusing to vaccinate their children believing that the measles, mumps and rubella or MMR vaccine causes autism.

. . . There are no legitimate studies that show the MMR vaccine is linked to autism, but still many children go unvaccinated

Which ones are necessary? Well, all of them of course. Influenza, meningitis, whooping cough, measles....

It sounds like we could wipe out most contagious diseases if we just all got vaccinated. Vaccines prevent disease. It's that simple and there's no link to autism. I think a better title would be: Everyone should get every vaccine. Two of my comments were posted. No links allowed.

The Today Show

After years of therapy for J.J. Hart, a three-year-old boy diagnosed with autism from Debary, Florida, his parents finally found a way for him to connect to the world with the help of chickens. Now the couple is fighting to keep the chickens, and maintain the progress their son has made, after local officials ruled that they were violating a city ordinance.

"J.J. used to stare into space, barely speak and have temper tantrums."

Mom: "He's been in therapy from the age of 14 months up until 6 months ago. He was getting physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy."

"All with limited success."

The TODAY SHOW didn't answer the basic questions:

Seriously, this is very POOR REPORTING. BUT...typical of the media which never gives the whole story---ever.

Sad that in a world where mainstream medicine happily tells us that autism is a mystery with no official cause or cure, parents are left to their own devices. And I hate to think that desperate viewers out there will now cling to the hope that --- "Maybe chickens could help my child too."

After years of Pharma making billions off Adderal to treat ADHD the researchers just admitted that it was a mistake to use Adderal to treat ADHD so Pharma needs to replace its moneymaker drugs with new ones regardless of the cost to human life.

I am wondering if they want to get the info out there that "some" may be harmed by vaccines, in order to use that a a defense some day.

When they did the tobacco trial, one of the arguments was "even though we said it was safe" people should have "known" it was not safe because there was some info out there saying it was dangerous. If you can follow that.

I do feel we are being manipulated here too. Argh.

While I think it's great that ANY coverage is given to vaccine injured families like ours, I remain a total skeptic. If all of this press with Katie Couric was unintended, it would NEVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY! There isn't any live TV anymore. There is something more going on here. I'm not sure what, but it is just part of the agenda. Maybe it is to warn other journalists not to come forward for the real story? I do know that they know exactly what they are doing and what they are airing at ALL TIMES. They threw her under the bus long before she will realize how expendable she was, because that is the game. I’m guessing a planned attack so they could use the orchestrated backlash to get more of their "science" out there. Same old tricks!

Apparently there is no problem and no one cares.

Well if this is what AOL has done to Huffpo then Katie will be silenced there too. Anybody with any integrity may as well retire to something real if they can afford to.

Apparently there is no problem and no one cares.

Thanks for info Carolyn. Was just hearing from some commenters on Huffpo article (about Huffpo now using Facebook) that Daily KOS was an alternative now that Huffpo is reduced to a form of corporate censorship.

Go here:
And scroll down to the poll . Read the results.

20% of respondents say that if they had a vaccine injured child they would stay silent to avoid being attacked for saying so!

Also notice that at least half the comments agree that vaccines should be safer. The trolls gave up when faced with detailed links to valid research. And several people reported horror stories.

That says we have lots of allies out there who are silent and waiting.

Some nanny!

Apparently there is no problem and no one cares.

Shelly, it's all we have now is a "nanny state!"

They can yell, scream and pitch a fit. They can set the standard for bullying. They can target Katie this month and someone new next month. Still they have a problem. As long as children are injured, parents will talk. It is just that simple. Even if it goes underground, parents will talk. Parents will continue to loose faith in their doctors and school nurses. Add in the rest of the "nanny state" behaviors we're seeing and you create more and more angry, discerning and aware parents. We have a lot of work to do, and it is a shame to see Katie backpedal, but she wasn't the sole solution to the problem.

This is absolutely frightening. Our "free press" is long gone.

I took a peek at Couric's ongoing conversation. Reiss is apparently unsatisfied with Couric's apology and is sounding more aggressive and enraged than ever. Reiss' content delivered in her wordy low key carefully calculated predatory viscous style can be summed up in four words: off with her head! Having weakened her victim, Reiss is going in for the kill.

I expect Reiss' head will start spinning and pea soup will come spewing out of her mouth any second.

The Huff Post groveling is a real eye opener. Couric really stepped in it- she put vaccine injured families on national TV, along with a highly credentialed medical doctor, and had a discussion about vaccine safety and vaccine injury.

The abject submission of Couric to the vaccine mafia should put a chill down the spine of every freedom loving American. All she had to lose was money and fame- and she knuckled under. She offered false hope to vaccine injured families- now Couric is a vaccine injury denialist herself.

We are living in an era of Orwellian fascism. Shots that kill are safe. Ethyl mercury is "the good mercury." Adverse reactions are so rare we must have NVICP.

We are going to have to try harder. The stakes have been defined and they could not be any higher. Media censorship has officially arrived- forced vaccination "for the common good" is just around the corner. Time for freedom loving Americans to wake the hell up and take to the streets.

Katie Couric evidently gave Seth Mnookin the impression that she was going to do a pro-Gardasil puff piece, so the Dark Side had their guard down and she was able to slip this program in under their radar. Even after they realized what was afoot, most mainstream journalists held their fire at first, realizing that she might fight back and win sympathy among viewers. But once she issued her "retraction" (evidently extracted at the point of a gun) the media pounced on it and used it to publicly humiliate her. The program was no doubt valuable (and rare) publicity for Gardasil victims, who would otherwise be ignored and abandoned. But after what happened to Katie Couric, no mainstream journalist will want to touch this story -- precisely what the Dark Side was hoping to achieve. So if we can't get a hearing in the mass media or in Congress, we can only communicate our message as an "underground" movement. In the long run, what works in our favor is growing public distrust of government and the media, which this episode may only fuel.

My comment, which put a up a brief appearance on Huffington Post, but obviously offended people of deep sensibility:

"It tells us a lot about institutional pressure but not a lot about science. The collateral damage remains hidden, denied. The machine rolls on."

I remember someone on the radio once talking about seeing the composer Shostakovich in a box at London's Royal Festival Hall, wedged between two gigantic KGB minders "whose harsh exteriors disguised their obvious deep love of music".

Meanwhile, as Linda pointed out yesterday Obama poses as a lover of freedom at Mandela's funeral:

"There are too many who claim solidarity with Madiba's struggle for freedom but do not tolerate dissent from their own people," Obama said, referring to Mandela by his clan name."

Bob Moffitt

Huff Post:

"The federal government has a system for reporting adverse reactions following immunization with any vaccine"

In my opinion .. the federal government does NOT have a "system" for reporting adverse reactions .. what the federal government has .. are ill-defined "suggestions" for doctors to consider .. with no professional requirement to report any report of an adverse event following Gardasil shot.

Which is why Anne correctly notes .. "Even health officials acknowledge that only 1 to 10 percent of adverse vaccine reactions are ever reported to VAERS, so these statistics really don't tell us what the HPV vaccine is doing to the health of those who get the shots."

How about Katie pursuing a "greater perspective" on VAERS?

Huff Post:

"For the 23 million doses of Gardasil distributed in the United States from 2006 to 2008, 12,424 adverse reactions were reported, a rate of 5.4 per 10,000 doses, and the vast majority of these were not serious. Furthermore, only 772 of the 12,424 adverse reactions were reported to be serious, a rate of 0.3 per 10,000 doses. These rates are extremely low."

If adverse events are being calculated on the number of doses "distributed" ..23 MILLION .. rather than those "administered" .. UNKNOWN .. those responsible for this deception should be criminally prosecuted.

If we don't vaccinate ourselves and our children then supposedly the CDC has a problem when we contract the diseases, but when we vaccinate ourselves and our children then we have a problem especially if we don't want to spend years in a Kangaroo Vaccine court. Someone would have to be out of his/her mind to vaccinate after becoming fully informed of the possible vaccine side effects(like autism and autoimmune disease) and the way the vaccine injured are treated or should I say go without treatment. So, you have to be very sympathetic to the CDC to go along with their vaccine program and they have zero sympathy for you if you are injured by any vaccine. The reasonable solution is to ignore everything the CDC says and does and let them have their hissy fits. At least you're not playing Russian roulette with you and your child's life by getting a vaccine with possibly devastating consequences.

Most people go about their daily lives and haven't closely watched the unfolding of events surrounding Katie Couric's courageous reporting on HPV. To witness the bullying of a seasoned journalist - to see her forced into trying to rescind her report is chilling. No doubt she was threatened with the immediate and brutal destruction of her career and reputation. This is as ugly as it gets.
