WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - A chemical spill causes a hazmat scare at a local H1N1 clinic.

A thermometer accidentally broke Friday afternoon spilling mercury onto the floor of the gym at the Greenbush School in West Warwick.

The gym had to be evacuated.

It took crews hours to clean up that spill.

Fish has selenium which mercury is bound to.

Injecting mercury and aluminum and all that other cr*p into babies is stupid. You can't give a baby eggs, honey or peanut butter until they are 12 months. However, it is totally ok to inject them with flu shots made from eggs with some mercury in it. Not to mention the other vaccines and their lovely ingredients.

Until you have watched someone you love deteriorate after each and every "well visit", you will blindly trust the government, just like most of the ticked off parents here did.

There are new studies coming in daily proving what we are saying here.

Don't be so sure you weren't damaged by playing with that mercury either, your toxicity is showing.

I would never buy any light bulbs containing Hg. I have heard of instances where those compact (mercury containing) light bulbs were broken, and HaZMat WAS called into the home for cleanup.

Can't you get a flu shot at WalMart, too? With Thimerosal? At least they're consistent...

But, seriously, there are too many toxins used in various products -- this is a problem -- a problem which does not prove mercury to be harmless.

I completely agree with Maggie.
Perhaps because, like her, I did not grow up in the US.
I have lived most of my adult life in this country, I appreciate its positive sides and am not interested in systematically and indiscriminately criticizing anyone or anything BUT... far too many Americans are far too SCARED.
And kept that way by advertising, blatant lies from some of their leaders as well as the Media (one of the many poisonous side effects of capitalism ).
A fearful people is more easily sold on unnecessary products ( pharmaceutical, insurance, etc... ) and easier to manipulate politically.
In this so-called "melting pot" of a country ( in reality, alas only a myth ) why not take advantage of the rare and priceless richness that is diversity instead of fearing it ?
Of course Mercury is poisonous but guess what ? As a child, because we did not know any better, I chased small balls of Mercury on the floor after a thermometer would accidentally brake. I could never catch them and it was fun !
While I absolutely do not recommend doing this and am grateful these thermometers are no longer being manufactured ( in this part of the world at least ) I am alive and well, I SURVIVED small exposure to MERCURY !
Another reason why my immune system is as strong as it is might be because I also used to lick subway windows ( my mother would of course stop me immediately ).
My point is FEAR and excessive artificial CLEANLINESS work against you.
Oh and ( get ready to be shocked ) I don't always wash my hands after a visit to the bathroom.

You missed the point that was being made in this article. We were shaking our heads at the extremes of cleaning up elementary mercury while shooting organic mercury right into the veins of children.

Many that blog here know this:
There are three types of mercury.
Elementary mercury
Inorganic mercury
Organic mercury

Elementary mercuy is what we played with in school. It is just mercury with nothing else. It will pass safe through the GI track. However, if it breathed in - mercury vapor it is just as dangerous as the other two mercuries.

Inorganic mercury is a mercury attached to a salt by a loose ionic bond - (like a magnet + and -). A bond that breaks easily in the presents of water. It can make you sick fast. It can absorb through the skin, causes immediate vomitting. It damages kidneys and brain.

Organic mercury- mercury attached to a carbon molecule. What we are basically all made from. It is a slow poison. Even the smallest amounts will cause problems years later. Try putting that right into the veins of your small child. And our brilliant medical profession looks at each individual vaccine and never the total accumalation of all the mercury from several vaccines a child receives in an office visit.

I think the point of the story is to show the hypocrisy that a broken thermometer would cause such a reaction but noone bats an eye about ethylmercury in vaccines and the risk to our children.

Please don't underestimate us. I understand ethyl mercury is different chemically from elemental mercury. I've researched ethylmercury myself and learned that the FDA doesn't have a safety standard for ethyl mercury. Why? because they've never tested it so they rely on the standard for methyl mercury. So it's not safety tested but the FDA says it's okay to put in vaccines. Doesn't that bother you?

In response to your saying Americans overreact, I disagree. What you are seeing are parents who trusted what the government said, did the responsible thing and had their children fully vaccinated only to see them regress. Could it be that administering 24+ vaccines to a child by age two can overwhelm their immune systems, Why hadn't the CDC tested the culmuative effect of vaccines on a young child's immune system or the in an immune deficient child.

How do you explain 1 in 58 boys with autism? The crisis is real. You shake your head and call it over reacting but I see nothing but underreacting by the US government and governments worldwide because they are so hell bent on protecting their immunization programs at the expense of the children. It's called denial and the consequences are tragic.

It's "ethyl" and "methyl", dear sir. Of course- we all know elemental mercury is in a total different form and far less dangerous, although still a toxic substance, obviously, or HazMat wouldn't be involved.

The form of mercury in Thimerosal is ethyl, and the methyl form is found in contaminated seafood. Does this satisfy your "bet"?

Hi I am I have spent 20 years on the UK and twenty in New Zealand. I am sorry to say but my view and my friends views and my parents view and the view of tv and radio etc basicly shakes its head when it hears about the Americans and their over reaction to everyday events. This could only happen in America.... Really you have no idea... So a thermometer, elemental mercury, this is a poison, one which I and my classmates played with in our bare hands for years with no Autism, Why? I bet not one of you can tell me if it was ethel or methel mercury in the old vaccines, or know anything about it, that it is a type of mercury that can be found naturally in the human body and has no similarity to elemental mercury. The only reason millions of Americas are alive and a few dozen unlucky humans died is because they were vaccinated. I doubt that I will change any of your mind but it makes me so sad to see you prove the world view of America
