Please read and comment HERE on Dr. Jay Gordon's HuffPo piece on autism and toxins.
Dr Harvey Karp has just written an excellent blog beginning to discuss the role environmental toxins play in causing autism. I agree that the huge rise in autism is real, and not just related to better diagnosis or reclassification of mental illness. Autism is most likely caused by a genetic predisposition and an environmental "trigger."
Studies showing that vaccines and their many constituents do not contribute to this problem are flawed, filled with specious reasoning and, for the most part funded by the pharmaceutical industry. Even articles in reputable medical journals are often written by doctors with an economic interest in continuing the vaccination program's status quo.

I am concerned that the next battle front for vaccine manufacturers is in the area of taking away the right to choose or not choose vaccination. So, a parent that is questioned after they file a religious exemption has to in some state attend a hearing, and now state of emergency laws around epidemics and forced vaccinations already exist. We need to consider standing up for the right to choose rather than whether the manufacturers are making more. I'm concerned we may loose this right if we don't speak up to our representatives. Parents need support of community to stay with their choice as well. Thank you Dr. Gordon for stating the impact of environmental concerns on Autism, including vaccines.

this comment by dr. gordon suggests yet another readily available group of children in which to compare health outcomes: "I have no proof that vaccines cause autism and would be very excited to have my large group of extremely healthy mostly unvaccinated children studied someday." between these children, homefirst in chicago, the homeschooled, the amish, state vaccine waiver files, and so on, we could easily have the answer if anyone in power cared to look. -- dan
