A description of 1960s France in a book I'm reading: "Tonsils, chickenpox, measles, flu, bronchitis, and all the other mundane afflictions occupy the doctors, along with the births and deaths that march through the years everywhere." Quaint.

A of A Contest: Win Rupert Isaacson's The Horse Boy Audio Book from Hachette

HORSE_BOY Congratulations to Curtis Buxton, Anne Shaw and Diane P.!

We have three copies of the audio book version of The Horse Boy by Rupert Isaacson, courtesy of Hachette Books.   Read by Rupert himself (imagine hearing the tale in Dad's own voice!), you'll receive nine CD's to enjoy at home or in the car. You can download them into an mp3 file to listen on your iPod as well.

THE CONTEST IS CLOSED. You can buy a copy of the hardcover or audio book at THESE locations.

When his son Rowan was diagnosed with autism, Rupert Isaacson was devastated, afraid he might never be able to communicate with his child. But when Isaacson, a lifelong horseman, rode their neighbor's horse with Rowan, Rowan improved immeasurably. He was struck with a crazy idea: why not take Rowan to Mongolia, the one place in the world where horses and shamanic healing intersected?

THE HORSE BOY is the dramatic and heartwarming story of that impossible adventure. In Mongolia, the family found undreamed of landscapes and people, unbearable setbacks, and advances beyond their wildest dreams. This is a deeply moving, truly one-of-a-kind story--of a family willing to go to the ends of the earth to help their son, and of a boy learning to connect with the world for the first time.

we try to keep it updated with the latest information we get from Rupert!

enjoy!

that is awesome! Thank you very much!

Sounds like a wonderful story. This would be an awesome addition to our TACA lending library in TN

Oh, I want this audio book so badly!! I am in love with this story - so uplifting and encouraging. And we all need a dose of that once in awhile. Thanks for a great contest!!

I have found that everything my son loves are the things I love too (hill walking, computers, walking along the sea) and that I relate with him better through these joint activities- but should we be calling these therapies? We should not forget and mislead people that what help with relating to a child with autism, is not about the magical therapy aspect, but much more about the deepness and sincerity of the relationships that are established. Horse ridding will do nothing to an ASD child if it is meaningless to the parents and no opportunity are made for special sincere and high quality bounding. Of course if this dad takes the trouble to go to Mongolia with his son, it indicates his intensity and passion. That likely what worked for the child. But I’d like to read the story none the less, seems very sweet and romantic too.

I heard there was a film too. I am a friend of his father-in-law and would love to listen to you read this! What an inspiration of family love and a connection with nature, horses, and cultures yet to be discovered. I am completely inspired!!

Pick me! Pick me! :)

Sounds like a great book and interesting story!

I'd put it to good use! Many times over. :)

I am going to keep trying until I win something. Everything you give away is equally desired in some way!!!

It would be great to win this book. Our kids love to listen to books on cd when we travel. This sounds great!

We love hippotherapy!

Our son rides horses as well. Would love to hear more of this story.

Please enter me. I'm to tired to come up with something witty right now. I just know I'd love to curl up with a cup of tea or coffee and read a good book. Thanks. Going to take a nap now...hubby's taken pity on me and begging me to lay down. zzzzzzzzzz

Will be perfect for our lending library! Louise

I heard he sold the rights to his story before he even went to Mongolia to ride horses. Sounds a little too fabricated for me.

This sounds like an amazing story! I'd love to learn more about it...

Pick me, Pick me!!! I promise to gift to another the one I ordered!

Looks Great!

I saw the piece in cbs news with Katie CUrie and it was makes me wonder if any gentle animal can play a major role in our kids life and it makes think if we are missing that in our life.

I would love to read this- we are starting therapeutc riding today!

This book looks very interesting - saw a blurb on our local news about this story. We are looking into equine therapy for the summer.

I saw the author on a local program. His story was so interesting. Horse Whisperer with autism.

Maybe this is why my son sometimes tries to ride our dog, LOL. I would love to hear their story. I'm glad to hear the son and father will write a book together next time. I hope for these things for my Luke.

I'd love it - perhaps I could get through the audio faster than I do my books (which isn't good!)

I would love to win this.
I have been able to connect to horses by riding them and I feel like I can connect to the story.

I saw the movie premier at SXSW and it is fantastic...but the book is even better!

Rupert is a wonderful warrior dad and Kristin a wonderful warrior mom, and Rowan is really the child warrior in this story...overcoming the grip of autism. You will love this book.

Dare I say, I saw this on TV?

Sounds wonderful!

Sounds like a neat story!

Still looking for last package Kim I will try for this one. Smiles...

Thank you for this opportunity. The connection between horses and the healing of our children is truly amazing.

Would love to have this---what an awesome dad!

I would love to hear these books. My wife loves horses and our SPD son has started to show an interest in them as well.

Oh please!! This would be so helpful to my work with herbs and healing autism. My daughter has been in hippotherapy for 5 years thanks to our county grant.

When I first saw this article in the newspaper, I kind of thought this is crazy.
But after giving it more thought, i find the
therapy and where they went -utterly fascinating.
maurine

Would love to read/hear this book.

I would love to win this becasue I can so connect to the story. My lil guy has been horseback riding for five years now. He is so awesome at it. He can side ride, bare back, and galloping are his favorite. I would love to hear more of this story.

Warm regards,

Horseback riding and shamanic healing! Interesting.

Sounds like an interesting one.

If I don't win I'm going to buy this book.
