From the Editor: Plus ca change

A description of 1960s France in a book I'm reading: "Tonsils, chickenpox, measles, flu, bronchitis, and all the other mundane afflictions occupy the doctors, along with the births and deaths that march through the years everywhere." Quaint.

Barbara Fischkin "First Autism Conversation with the New President

BarbaraClick HERE to read Barbara Fischkin's blog First Autism Conversation With New President: Don't Waste Our Precious Time in Spectrum Magazine.  Here's a taste:

As I write this, the polls are open and the candidates have said all they can say. It is a sweet time after much frenzy and the air is ripe for fantasy. What if we actually elect a national leader who will listen to what we, Autism Moms and Dads, need and want for our kids? Listen as a president, not as a candidate making promises he might not keep.  What would you say if you could be the first to whisper "autism" in the new guy's ear?

Please go over to Barbara's blog to comment, won't you?

Thanks Barbara, what a great idea, and thank you for the delivery of our messages!

I second what Karen-Atlanta, Nancy Hokkanen and Garbo wrote. I can't put it better.

Hey girls-- want to organize the next DC rally after Obama takes office, highlighting all these issues?

Pssst...Mr. President? Wake up. Take the mercury and aluminum out of shots and suspend mandatory vaccination for public school entry and watch as autism rates go down and all those escalating special needs dollars can be put back into education. That way we can have a new generation of scientists to deal with the mercury in the air, water and food supply. And a new generation of doctors and researchers to help the people already affected. And a new generation of policy makers who will never let this happen again.

What should be whispered?

Mr. President? That guy Rahm Emanuel you appointed was part of the Hillarycare group that increased the doses of Thimerosal-containing vaccines.

You know what happened after that?

Autism rates when up some 6000%.

I would whisper, "Show me your children's vaccine records!".

Barbara Fischkin would be a marvelous spokesperson for parents of children on the autism spectrum. I hope that she can gain the ear of President-elect Obama, and show him how desperately our children need medical treatment, therapy and public support. And tell him how our community has been maligned and even libeled simply for speaking the truth about the onset of our children's iatrogenic illnesses.

Obama, please don't trample our freedoms. Our rights to protect our families, our dreams of a life full of hope for our children. Please give us a chance to have homes of our own, jobs, pay our bills, without sacrificing the progress of our kids, and the huge strides they've made. Give us a chance to be heard, try to walk in our shoes, even if you are too busy with foreign affairs, remember that the US is your main focus, and not pleasing others who do not care about our kids. Remember what it is like to be poor, confused, and unsure of your future. And know that another generation of citizens face this each day, and that it will be reflected in the eyes of our loving, hopeful children. Help us to not let them down. We need help, because our children need us to be strong. Help us be strong for them.

One thing that gives me confidence in our new president is that he is considering appointing Robert Kennedy Jr. to his staff. If so, then we have a voice that is very close to the President's ear.

Congrats Obama!!

Barbara, being the journalist that you are...
You should compile and bind these comments and send them to the Obama titled.
"What I would whisper in you ear... if I could talk."
The heart cry of families enduring regressive Autism.

What I would whisper...
Congratulations Obama.
What a historic moment in history.
Please don't forget our kids Obama.
They have been through their own civil rights movement, except they have no voice.
They've not been sprayed with fire hoses but injected with toxins.
Saddled with shock collars in isolation rooms, denied proper medical care and education.
Remember them. Help them.
We need CHANGE.
My prayers are with you to make that happen.
