Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) is hosting a special briefing for Members of Congress and their Staff to update them on recent developments in the vaccine-autism debate.

David Kirby, investigative journalist and author of The New York Times bestseller Evidence of Harm, Mercury in Vaccines and the Autism Epidemic – A Medical Controversy, will inform Members and their staff about developments in this debate from science, public policy, politics and law.  Mr. Kirby will be joined Mark Blaxill, Director of the Coalition for SAFE MINDS.

Among the issues to be discussed are:

● A recent Vaccine Court case in which the federal government conceded that vaccines induced autism in one girl with an underlying mitochondrial dysfunction.

● Possible links between mitochondrial dysfunction and autistic regression, and information on several ASD children with mitochondrial issues;

● State-of-the-art research underway at top universities on the connection between environmental toxins, mitochondrial function, oxidative stress, glutathione depletion, neuro-inflammation and autistic encephalopathy;
● Research agendas from the CDC and NIH that include investigations into links between vaccines and neuro-immune disorders

● The scope and implications of the autism epidemic. How scientific politics is preventing policy from catching up to the problem.

● Ongoing research into connections between mercury exposure and autism. Why most of what is reported is inaccurate.

● Reframing concerns over the vaccine program: It’s not a question of being pro or con vaccines, but rather a question of safety management.

We are asking all of our members to contact their elected representatives and urge them to attend.

Hi,

Obama's DC office does not pick up and v mail is full--what is that all about? I know he is running for prez but this is a HUGE issue for many of us--and I would like our Congress to be educated. (and hopefully, future president!)

I called my local Obama office and they are sending info to his scheduler..which I had already done and never heard back. I emphasized that he is not on the list and that does not look good. I gave them the website here so....they are supposed to call me back to confirm a staffer can attend and get him on the list. Forget Durbin....I'm still waiting on Rep Rahm Emanuel.

Another thing to remember is since this is open to the public you can ask other community and government officials to attend. I faxed and will call Corzine's office. After all, it was on his watch that four new vaccines were mandated for our kids in NJ. I feel he should attend to get his facts together and hear the truth and not some line from Big Pharma. I also agree that it is best to call. I made some calls Friday and will make some more on Monday.

Later there will be a Larry King Live with a Merck executive explaining how they got it all wrong before and have realised they must sell to their strengths and that this is the natural progression of the marketing driven drug industry. She will tell Larry that if a drug has a feature, don't hide it. Sell it for all it is worth and how they did lots of focus group studies. They asked all the [ex-]Vioxx users.

A tip. If you are emailing your reps via their websites, the email may not be seen for days.

Call their office. Let the person who answers know that you are calling to request attendance at the briefing. Ask permission to email the details directly to the health policy advisor and if you may speak with that person. Your goal is to get to a specific person directly.

They may direct you to a scheduler. That's probably fine. When I arranged meetings for after the rally in DC, the schedulers were great to work with and the aides called me back directly. Push for the rep. or senator to attend personally.

Also, let them know how many legislators have already confirmed attendance. Email this list with the briefing details.

I sent requests to my Congressman and both Senators. I have eamail addresses for specific staff members. I got a commitment from the Congressman and one Senator. To the Senators aide whe was not responding, I sent the following and within 15 minutes received a reply that they would have someone there.

Bottle feeding, colitis and regressive autism go together.

In my opinion, two factors, 1) Exclusive breast feeding and 2) Avoiding vaccines containing elements capable of respiratory infection will end the epidemic of regressive autism.

Colitis and ear infections are two of the more common disorders in regressive autism patients. The literature reports that the severity of colitis is related to the duration of bottle feeding. (Rigas) Also, exclusive breast feeding for four months protects against ear infections. (Duncan) [Citations for both Rigas and Duncan are below.]

Parents report that vaccinations trigger the ailments associated with regressive autism, especially the ‘MMR’ vaccination. An NIH web page reports that although the cause of colitis is unknown, respiratory infections can initiate an attack of colitis. (nih.gov) Since measles is an upper respiratory viral infection it would seem appropriate to avoid the MMR vaccination.

Repeating my opinion, 1) Exclusive breast feeding and 2) Avoiding vaccines containing elements capable of respiratory infection will end the epidemic of regressive autism.
