A description of 1960s France in a book I'm reading: "Tonsils, chickenpox, measles, flu, bronchitis, and all the other mundane afflictions occupy the doctors, along with the births and deaths that march through the years everywhere." Quaint.

Is 38 Children a Study or a Classroom in New York City?

Beef_2From TampaBay10.com: St. Petersburg, Florida—A local pediatrician, who treats many young patients with autism, is speaking out against a new government study on childhood MMR vaccinations.

The Centers for Disease Control released a new, study, claiming there is no link between the combination Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) vaccine and autism nor gastrointestinal disorders.

While several researchers said this study is "conclusive" proof that there is no link, Tampa pediatrician, Dr. David Berger says the study is too small (38 children) to make that claim and not comprehensive enough to give parents 100 percent assurance.

38? Thirty eight? Thirty [blankity] EIGHT? And not even the RIGHT thirty [blankity] eight? I sincerely hope that even THEY know how absolutely foolish this makes them look.

The study makes little sense. The control group have GI symptoms and have had MMR. The study discloses nothing about the history in the two cases which tested postive, one in each group - were symptoms pre or post MMR? If it was former you would think it would enhance the case, but they don't tell us, so we would be forgiven for presuming the latter.

There is, of course, a problem with obtaining a proper control group which this study didn't solve.

And the study said that they looked at non-autistic kids with GI complaints and autistic kids with NO GI complaints...

huh? WTF?

At issue are autistic kids WITH GI problems...

Am I missing something?

It seems a little David vs Goliath on this issue given from watching cable news of late, but keep up the good work.
