« Louise Kuo Habakus on the Every Child By Two Press Conference | Main | Have You Had Your Google Today? »
Today I had the privilege of standing outside the Peninsula Hotel for two and half hours with a great group of autism parents. They are smart, dedicated, hard working parents, who apparently pose a security threat to Rosalyn Carter. We all wanted to hear what Every Child by Two and the AAP had to say at their vaccination press conference. We were denied entry to this public event because of “security risks to Rosalyn Carter.” OK, I have been accused of some crazy things but being a security risk…to Rosalyn Carter???? Insane and laughable. Because we did not RSVP in within the allotted half hour of 9:30 -10PM, when the registration was supposedly open, we were denied entrance.
What a difference between Every Child By Two and a DAN!, AutismOne or NAA event, where anyone who purchases a ticket is welcome.
I guess the difference is we have nothing to hide and are not afraid of opposing points of view and do not feel the need to stifle or censor people. Amy Pisani must have been up all night thinking of ways to get around the First Amendment. She nearly succeeded from what I understand. Anytime a parent of an autistic child posed a question they were hastily cut off and despite offers by Offit to remain to respond to questions, Pisani hastily shut down the event. What a disaster! How exhausting to be controlled by fear like that!
Meanwhile out on the street, parents were amiably chatting with police officers, assigned to protect Rosalyn Carter from us. They were all so kind and sympathetic, horrified to hear the stories of our kids. They all knew someone with an autistic child. Even the cameramen and women from various news outlets got involved asking us questions, wanting to know where they could learn more. European passerbys were in disbelief that so many vaccines are mandated in this country and were unfamiliar with autism, no doubt why…Sure one or two people disagreed with us but we were happy to engage with them. There was no yelling, just a calm civilized discussion, nothing to be so afraid about.
When the event was ending we had to back far away from Mrs. Carter’s limo. Mrs. Carter looked astounded to see our group protesting yelling, “too many, too soon.” I almost felt badly for her, thinking she has no idea what is really going on with our kids and is blinding supporting an organization that is actively endangering the health of American children by forcing upon us the most reckless infant vaccination schedule in the world. It is a shame to see her human rights legacy tarnished like this. Isn’t the right to a healthy life free from untested combination vaccines a human right? Why is she so opposed to spreading out the vaccines and creating a safer schedule with a safer product? In just glancing at their tax return, Every Child By Two, is basically a pharmaceutical company, practically owned and operated by vaccine makers. They are also big contributors to the Carter Library. Mrs. Carter or the people around her should know better than this. They have let us all down.
So apparently we “street parents” missed Paul Offit’s hysterical response to the Bernadine Healey question regarding why she too is questioning vaccine safety. Dr. Offit has judged Dr. Healey, a former Director of the NIH, as not knowing her science. Dr. Poling, the Special Masters and nearly all the parents in attendance don’t know the science either. Interesting…everyone else is wrong… Dr. Offit’s world is shrinking by the minute.
It seems to me that it is Dr. Offit’s big friend and supporter, Amanda Peet, is the one who does not “know her science.” I don’t know how many parents caught “Good Morning America” but the Amanda Peet interview was a train wreck worth watching. Poor Amanda, this is really complicated and when you do not have an emotional investment, other than calling parents like us parasites (what is she so mad about anyway?) and you do not live this, it is easy to make mistakes. Amanda said Jenny McCarthy had her facts “wrong” and it was only 14 shots that babies under 2 receive, not 36.What? Then a crazy diatribe about antigens, raisins and fetticini. What? Then, the most bizarre part of all, Amanda’s analogies to the New Orleans levies and people not listening to the engineers. How did we get there and what does that have to do with autism???? I kept thinking, if only Jenny were there…but it would almost be too easy…
The good news is if these are the individuals who represent the brain trust trying to keep us quiet and prevent the facts from being reported, we will be in great shape. Thank you to all the parents in attendance who represented our children.
Katie Wright has two young boys. Her oldest son, Christian, is severely affected by autism. He developed normally; smiling, talking, walking; only to lose every skill and every word by the age of 2 and a half. Upon the advice of medical professionals Katie and her husband were advised to pursue only high quality behavioral therapy, speech and OT for Christian. It had no meaningful impact on Christian until his parents sought help from DAN! doctors who treated the underlying causes of Christian's descent into autism. Christian has improved but still has far to go. He has Inflammatory Bowel Disease, the measles virus in his gut and an immune system akin to a late stage AIDS patient. Christian does not have a psychiatric disorder. Before autism, Katie Wright was the Clinical Director of Sexual Assault Crisis Center in Stamford Connecticut. Katie is proud to serve on the Boards of NAA and SafeMinds.

Harry, you are such a gentleman. I think the word monster should be used to describe a "person" who feels that 3% of a population deserves brain damage or death.

I believe I read somewhere that roughly 4(+/-)Million babies are born in the U.S. every year. If that's a close approximation then we should expect a minimum of 120,000 cases of autism every year.
That's twice the number of dead from the Vietnam war.
Damn. Dr. Jenkins is one callous bitch.

Harvey Karp asked Jenny McCarthy "which disease would you rather get (I may be paraphrasing a bit)". Has anyone asked the Amanda Peet squad "how many children do you consider expendable?". Both are ugly questions, but when they talk about percentages of "defective kids", and demote innocent lives to statistical insignificance, then the latter is one that is far less disingenuous.

Hi, Katie.
Thank you for your wonderful post with your bigger picture perspective on this craziness. I’ve been thinking about this concept of security risk and I’ve come to the conclusion that perhaps they are right. We do pose a security risk to these people. After all, what is security? Employment security. Financial security. Reputational security. Uncovering the truth would indeed pose a risk to the very secure worlds of Rosalynn Carter and Paul Offit and the many, many others who have staked their professions, investment portfolios and standing within their communities on ever increasing, mass forced vaccination. But don’t feel too badly for Rosalynn. It matters when you cause terrible damage to others. Even if you succeed in convincing yourself and those around you that you have had the very best intentions.
About the 3%. The utilitarian ethic with all of its “in the name of the greater good” implications may have worked for Hitler and Mengele but I thought we rejected them and their barbarism, in disgust, long ago. Also, has it always been 3%? Maybe it used to be 1%. And at the rate we are adding vaccines and polluting our world, it could be 5% in short order and 7% soon afterwards. How about when we hit 10%? Is 15% still ok? Just checking. We do want the greater good after all. Even if we are no longer free.

Reggie,
Preservatives, adjuvents, epigenetics, susceptability.
Why is this so tough to understand? Oh, right, you're using Offit as your source for talking points.

Katie,
Thanks for taking time to go do whatever it takes to get *our* message across. It saddens me so much to see people so adamantly against even questioning such an important part of their children's lives. I wish I had just a tad more info before I agreed to have 3 of my children vaccinated. Nowadays, I feel like I am on my soapbox all the time when I talk to other people. My son's developmental delays and medical issues run the majority of my life so it's inevitable that the vaccine injury comes up.
I just don't like the fact that so much negativity is being spewed from this campaign. It seems more like a 'he said/she said' and who can get in the last word. With Amanda Peet as the other side's new rep, I pray she never experiences anything horrible with her own children's vaccines--she's standing up for ridiculous vax schedule and I am guessing hasn't the full understanding that adverse reactions are a very strong likelihood for many kids (even a red spot at the site of the shot is a reaction although minor in comparison to losing sppech!). How can anyone not thoroughly research the entire platform being represented?
On a lighter note, the interview on GMA was entertaining with Ms. Peet. It reminded me of the botched answer Miss Teen USA/South Carolina from 2007 gave at the her pageant. It was exactly like a trainwreck!

I have to agree with Monica who said - "One thing most people don't realize. It is not the number of shots/vaccines. BUT, the number of antigens received. According to Dr. Sherri Tenpenny, kids received a total of 113 vaccine antigens by kindergarten in approx. 33 shots."
Now can someone explain how back in the seventies all the kids recieved vaccines containing over 2000 antigens, but never seemed to get autism?
Posted by: reggie | August 07, 2008 at 05:30 AM
Amanda Peet is right in that the people who should be listened to are the EXPERTS - the PARENTS!! The parents ARE the REAL experts!
Posted by: Andrea | August 06, 2008 at 09:36 PM
It's a sad day for the AAP when their keep-vaccines-dirty-and-plenty Dream Team consists of Dr. Offit, Amanda Peete, and Renee Jenkins. Wow. And, the Power Conference it was NO WHERE to be found on network TV news stations. I didn' think it would get to this point this quickly. And thank God we're finally here...

"Every baby deserves to keep the health they were born with...."
from your lips to God's ears
if all those smug, arrogant number-crunchers with their bullshit "risk is purely mathematical" garbage could get a firm grip on that simple truth, on the infinite and immeasurable value of EACH child (where the 1 child in your house is NOT worth less than the 2 in mine - hey, what kind of parasite does that make me?) then the foundation for a fair and sustainable and successful system of public health would emerge (you wouldn't be sweeping the bodies off the streets). A system that's not motivated or even influenced by profit or special interests, but instead, one that's driven by a simple vision - first do no harm - a vision that promotes respect and accountability. ECBT, with even 1 expendable child in it's wake, is a complete contradiction to these simple core values.
Posted by: Randy | August 06, 2008 at 06:05 PM
Can someone do me a favor, can you call Rich at ECBT and ask him if they have partnered with AS? He seemed to have alot of info regarding AS, and was certain that AS was not funding ECTB in any way.
ECBT- (202) 783-7034
I would call, but I have bugged Rich 2x already. I am curious as to why he would tell me this, as I didn't even mention AS.
Posted by: Monica | August 06, 2008 at 04:26 PM
I think we'd all be alot healthier if Amanda Peet stopped talking, and ate a sandwich or something.

Just in regarding possible AS connection to ECBT:
"I have confirmed. We have no relationship with ECBT. We have not supported any of their programs."

I have no knowledge that Autism Speaks has partnered with ECBT or any of the other vaccine groups. AS has their own campaign with pediatricians for screening and diagnosis. Alison Singer was at the press conference, but as E. Director of AS, it would be logical for her to attend, just as many of us were there. I'll keep my ear to the ground. If anyone has info, please email me at Kim Stagliano at gmail dot com.

I don't think I've felt more anger. What enrages me to the core of my soul are statements like this: "Ninty Seven plus percent of children don't have these defects, so, when you look at what the risk and the benefits to children are, and, you really weigh the risks, then the benefits far outweigh the risks that occur."
When I hear this I think back over the physical pain my son endured along with the other 3% of children with "defects" and I really want to smack someone upside the head. We were one of the lucky ones, my son responded beautifully to biomed/chelation. I'm still angry he suffered and somedays continues to suffer,
but HOW CAN THEY DENY KIDS ARE RECOVERING? I don't wish autism or so called autism on anyone except Amanda Peet .. perhaps she'll take the offer to drink the vaccine potion - she's obvisiously hard up for attention hanging out with criminals like Offit. Maybe with the extra cash she can drink the potion and go bang her head against the wall and knock some sense into herself .. oh sorry, but I'm just so angry.
I'm angry, because my son recovered. I should be happy. But I'm angry as all hell because if autism is a lifelong disorder then why is my son doing so much better? hmmmm tell me that criminal offit .. put that in your potion and smoke it.
I just want it to stop so no more children are just collateral damage for the greater good. Every baby deserves to keep the health they were born with.

Hold the presses for now. Just got this from someone who would know:
"That would be news to me. Let me ask one person and I'll get back to you. For now, that would be a FALSE rumor."
I'll let you know if it ends up being a different answer than that posted above.

Oh, I can't believe I forgot to mention this, not sure if anyone knows this but I found it sickening. Today Rich from ECBT told me that Autism Speaks has partnered with ECBT. I asked if ECBT received any money from them, and he said no. But partnered? WTF????
As if AS didn't anger me enough, but they are partnering with ECBT?
Does anyone know at what level this partnership exists?

One thing most people don't realize. It is not the number of shots/vaccines. BUT, the number of antigens received. According to Dr. Sherri Tenpenny, kids received a total of 113 vaccine antigens by kindergarten in approx. 33 shots. This does NOT include toxins.
"Vaccines are the bedrock of expanded illnesses, skyrocketing medical costs and exponential drug sales. But it is more than individual vaccines that are cause for concern. The sheer number of vaccines children now receive between birth and six years of age is staggering and include: Diphtheria (a rare throat infection), pertussis, and tetanus (the DTaP shot); Haemophilus influenza type b (the Hib vaccine); measles, mumps, and rubella (the MMR shot); pneumococcus (the Prevnar vaccine); polio (three strains); rotavirus (five strains); and individual vaccines for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, chickenpox, and meningitis. Flu shots (three strains) are now given annually, beginning at six months of age. That adds up to 113 vaccine antigens by kindergarten given in about 33 shots."
"Parents are becoming wary of the many needles being jabbed into their precious babies at the tender age of two, four and six months. In response, the drug companies are combining several vaccines into a single injection. Comvax (hepatitis B and HiB), ProQuad (MMR and chickenpox), Pediarix (DTaP, polio and hepatitis B) and two newly approved vaccines, Kinrix (DTaP and polio) and Pentacel (DTaP, polio and HiB) have been developed. Parents are deceived into believing that the combination shots are fewer vaccines; they are not: The number of jabs is reduced, but the number of antigen doses remains the same." Dr. Sherri Tenpenny

I just watched the clip with Amanda Peet. I think what she meant about New Orleans was that the experts said the levees would fail, no one listened to the experts, and the levees did fail. In other words, we should listen to the experts - (ie. HER experts) or there will be a disaster! Sorry Ms. Peet, but you have totally failed to convince me. I remain convinced that my daughter's autism was caused by a combination of my 4 dental amalgams and the vaccinations that she received. Autism is already a disaster; my recovery plan does not include any more vaccinations.
Posted by: Carolyn M. | August 06, 2008 at 01:07 PM
I actually like the New Orleans analogy, but I just think she happened to get it backwards. I think that we are the "engineers" warning of the disaster and being ignored by the government. Aren't we?
I also agree with her on another point. I would like to get off this shit-hole mercuruy poisoned planet. I think that is an excellent idea.

I just couldn't believe the 97% comments from Rene Jenkins until I heard it for myself.
I think I'll have to spend the afternoon writing her a letter asking her to clarify her remarks or justify why 120,000 kids a year are acceptable collateral damage.
Posted by: Jack | August 06, 2008 at 11:56 AM
omg too funny. I just watched the clip. The only intelligent things she said was "please don't listen to me"
I don't get the reference to New Orleans, either. Diversion tactic?
Posted by: Monica | August 06, 2008 at 11:49 AM
I think it was DK who once responded to a comment that he wasn't "tough enough" in one of his tv appearances (could have been Tim Russert, RIP) - the reply was essentially that readers should try to imagine how difficult it is - under the bright lights, on camera, all that - to stay calm, focused, drive home the main points in what little time you have, and basically just not fall apart.... I can't imagine this kind of pressure, and I'm pretty sure I would crumble under those circumstances. Ladies like Kelli, Katie, Louise, Jane, Mary, and others who not only somehow find the time and resources to get to these events for the sake of so many others, but can also stand up in a crowd, get in front of a camera, speak up against an opposing side with seemingly infinite resources ($) - and shine - wow - kudos.
Sorry Craig, these ladies are the essence of the Man Song (but I'm still hoping you might relent a bit and maybe let me back in the club )

"I'm here to tell you to not listen to the celebrities. Don't believe them. But I'm a celebrity and you can believe me!!"
OMG, people up here at work are looking at me like I'm crazy. I'm going to be laughing about this all day long. Keep it up, Amanda; you're almost doing our work for us.

That is awesome! So now we have news outlets, policemen and all of these other people who are looking at us and saying to themselves, "These people are very nice people, not the rabid, baby-killing, foaming-at-the-mouth crazies that Offit and Peet and the rest of the vaccine crowd say they are. What's the deal here?"
We are educating them! Fantastic job, Katie! I was there with all of you in spirit

Sorsha:
What I found interesting about Amanda's comment was her reference to *shot* vs. vaccines. Because there are combos, I figured she was purposely trying to downsize the number by referring to the word shot.
When I was interviewed a few weeks ago, I made reference to a *running tally* of 38 vaccines by kindergarten (cuz I didn't know the exact number and didn't want to relay inaccurate information) and then a few days later, Sharyl did her piece mentioning 55 vaccines by 6.
In the future, I'm going to always reference the *total vaccine* load vs. the shots so it's not misleading -- especially as combos become more popular.
Because after all, saving little Johnny and Suzie from the pain of having any additional needles jabbed into their arms is important first and foremost, right?

While I know this is slightly off topic, I had to share my frustrations with ECBT. When I first came across the site months ago, I contacted them by email and asked that they include information regarding those who should be contraindicated for vaccination, especially those with primary immunodeficiency. I never received a response.
With all the talk about ECBT in the past week, I decided to request the information again, by phone. I just spoke with Richard the receptionist.
I asked why there was no information regarding immunodeficiency, or ANY contraindications. I was told "we are not doctors, and cannot provide medical information"
WTF?????
I think calling these vaccines safe, and promoting this ridiculous schedule is providing medical information enough!
I also asked why there was no information about vaccines safety under that tab on the website, and why ALL the information in that section was regarding autism.
To which he had no explanation.
It is no surprise that the building these idiots work in is located at 666 11th st. They are more evil than I initially gave them credit for.
I think the top of the website should state "we are not medical doctors, so please consult your child's doctor before immunization"
Ok, this was pissing me off so much, I had to call them back just now, and ask why all the autism crap, why no contraindications, why the website does not state that "this is not medical advice, etc". Rich was a little less dick-ish this time, and we had a nice long chat about immunodeficiencies, the impact they have on our nation, and most importantly the impact Primary Immunodeficiency, combined with live virus vaccines has had on my daughter and family.
Initially he had stated that my daughter's doctor should have been aware of the immunodeficiency. WTF? One that is genetic, was undiagnosed in me, yet I had MULTIPLE symptoms for years that doctors did not diagnose?
He did agree to review www.primaryimmune.org, and I will be sending him info from the CDC and NIH, and WHO stating that children with immunodeficiency should not be vaccinated with live virus vaccines! He stated that they will consider posting information about certain populations that should not be vaccinated.
Oh, and he shared their new website with me- the one that has Amanda Peet glaring at me, as if her eyes are calling me a parasite because my daughter has a medical exemption, and can't get any more vaccines...http://vaccinateyourbaby.org/
Still no real info on vaccine safety there, just garbage about autism not being caused by vaccines.

I saw the clip yesterday of Renee Jenkins saying that damaging 3% of children with vaccine was acceptable. Then it disappeared. I hope someone downloaded it and can put it back on the web. Ginger Taylor quotes it on 'Adventures in Autism.:
"Ninty Seven plus percent of children don't have these defects, so, when you look at what the risk and the benefits to children are, and, you really weigh the risks, then the benefits far outweigh the risks that occur."
http://adventuresinautism.blogspot.com/2008/08/aap-decides-that-three-percent-of.html

From Ginger Taylor's site, Adventures in Autism.
"....Rene Jenkins', statement on vaccine safety and the charge that vaccines play a role in autism:
'Ninty Seven plus percent of children don't have these defects, so, when you look at what the risk and the benefits to children are, and, you really weigh the risks, then the benefits far outweigh the risks that occur."
So the AAP has decided to officially agree that vaccines can cause autism in 3% of kids? It's over for them. Anyone can figure out who is part of the 3%, and you can guarentee that employees of Microsoft will not be happy to know that their kids are destined to be discarded and considered "defective". It will be curious to see how the members of the AAP feel about being part of the 3% also, since they also have a higher chance.
It's like watching a sand castle with water eating away at the base and getting underneath and inside it. All these scientific agencies and associations are now going to have to deal with the internal questions as more of their members be part of the 3% than the "general" public. The result is implosion and collapse, followed with steamrolling by the mob.

"Amanda said Jenny McCarthy had her facts “wrong” and it was only 14 shots that babies under 2 receive, not 36."
What is wrong with Amanda? Its actually 24 shots by 2(36 shots by 5 - which is what Jenny has always correctly said). I literally cannot understand this. How can Ms. Peet go on national tv and sit panel on press conferences without even looking at an official CDC schedule?
Posted by: Sorsha | August 06, 2008 at 09:09 AM
Katie,
Thank you for your thorough coverage.
People that do not know autism should really not speak about it.
It is something that you cannot possibly wrap your mind around, if you do not deal with it 24/7.
I personally think that it is painful, for some people, to understand how this country could have slipped into such a disasterous situation. Denying is better, for them, than knowing.
Denying the problem will not make it go away.
Thanks to the parents that made the time to represnt us. I appreciate it.

Thanks Katie and all who attended and provided these summaries of the experience at the ECBT press conference. I read these things and think- this is America? And, Rosalyn Carter needs to pull her head out of her former first lady ass.
Hey- Amanda's trainwreck of an appearance didn't go unnoticed.
Dan Abram's of MSNBC included her television fiasco on his show last night.
It's the second one in the segment:

Wow... What sort of news conference was it? Was any press in the room? I think the Tree just fell in the woods and made no sound. I thought our coverage of the Green our Vaccines campaign was poor. I search news stories all the time and the only thing that comes up over and over is AOA stories. I have not seen a clip or story with Offit, Rosalynn, or Peet??? I figured nobody would bother to film Jenkins:)

Katie,
Beautiful summary of the events of the day from lots of perspectives. I loved the comment about the police outside the building talking with parents. It reminded me of parents talking to federal security people at rallies at the Capitol in Washington. They were asking lots of questions.
All this proves is that these are desperate times. They're fighting us in the streets and the inevitable is happening: They're losing the vaccine program. No sane parents is going to be willing to blindly follow health officials who say keep on vaccinating when so many are saying their children were harmed.
Jenny McCarthy said it on WCBS TV today: "Personally my inner knowing says what's going to do it is by Americans being terrified to vaccinate."
You can't pretend that vaccines are safe when so many voices are saying they're not!

Thanks for the play-by-play; we in the Midwest really appreciate it.
Rosalynn Carter's promotion of vaccine-induced peanut allergies has got to be bad for the family business... my son's Bible Camp was at a large church with a no-peanut ban for the entire building complex.
When my son was younger he would impulsively try to assist me at tasks, without first asking what I wanted done. I used to tell him, "Sometimes helping ISN'T helping." I think of all these liberal do-gooders with which I used to identify, who refuse to listen to vaccine injury reports, unable to accept the possibility that their helping ISN'T. The banality of evil, decades later.

Shoot, I wish I could have left work and been one of the Street parents! Thanks for confirming that the reason I didn't understand Amanda had nothing to do with my lack of intelligence. Apparently her handlers figured they would just send her out there spewing lies and hopefully most of Iowa would believe her and continue to vaccinate. Thank you for attending today and for the article above!

I think what everybody here needs to start remembering is "just because they're bleeding heart liberals" does not make them better! The Carters have always been elitist scum (not to mention horrible at running a country). Haven't you figured it out yet, the U.N., the Carters, the Gates' and all the other "good liberal human rights activists" are dumbing us down, and doing a great job at it!
many of the autism parents that I talk with scream about big business and neo cons like the bushies and have no clue that these liberal elitists are just as much a problem.
look at the U.N., WHO etc....they're pushing thimerosal all over the world now and we're not even thinking about them! Dumb down the little people, get them either watching re-runs of will and grace and friends, or hopefully get them add, adhd, autistic etc. (either way, then they don't care what's going on in the world and some idiot liberal with an agenda can walk into the white house.
you might think it sounds crazy, but then again, what's new with that when it comes to us "anti-vaccine" parasites?
