From the Editor: Fat Chance

So now we're having a national debate, courtesy of Mayor Bloomberg, over super-sized sugary drinks and obesity. Fine, but what about a super-sized vaccine schedule and its effects on diabetes and obesity, for starters?

AAP's RENEE JENKINS LETTER TO JULIE DEARDORFF

Im_meltingHere is the letter published in the Chicago Tribune, from AAP leader Dr. Renee Jenkins, about reporter Julie Deardorff, who runs the "Julie's Healthclub" blog HERE.  JB Handley wrote about this letter HERE.

New vaccines are preventing more diseases

July 9, 2008

The American Academy of Pediatrics is disappointed that a premier newspaper like the Chicago Tribune would publish such a one-sided, fear-mongering report as columnist Julie Deardorff's June 27 blog post, "The AAP gets tough on vaccine dissenters."

Deardorff parrots the misleading pseudoscience of the most strident anti-vaccine Web sites and the scare tactics of celebrity-funded ad campaigns. In quoting the number of vaccines children receive today compared to 1982, Deardorff takes the extra step to write the numbers in boldfaced type, suggesting she believes these numbers alone should give parents pause about immunizing their children.

The fact is, today's vaccines are safer than any in history. Current vaccines are more refined than older versions, so children receive fewer immune-challenging antigens overall even though they get a larger number of immunizations.

It's true that doctors recommend more vaccines for children today than they did two decades ago. The number of vaccines has increased because new vaccines have been developed to prevent more diseases. That is a good thing. That means children will not have to suffer devastating diseases such as Hib meningitis, which once killed 600 children a year and left thousands more with deafness, seizures and mental retardation. The vaccine available today has wiped out 98 percent of these cases.

Renee is trying to defend the indefensible and not look stupid and criminal in the process. Good Luck,I would not want to be in her shoes. The hole she is digging for herself only gets deeper with each word that comes out of her mouth.
The ship is sinking for all the mercury defenders. The smart ones will shut up and try to fade into the woodwork. The fun is just beginning it is fun to watch them squirm.

"Current vaccines are more refined than older versions, so children receive fewer immune-challenging antigens overall even though they get a larger number of immunizations."

but she makes no mention of the increase of additives too from more vaccines especially since so many are given in one visit now

I love the comment she makes about fewer immune challenging antigens in today’s vaccines, as if this puts the issue to rest. JB Handley also references this in his previous post.

While there are fewer immune challenging antigens in today's vaccines, the safety of injected aluminum as an adjuvant, i.e. immune stimulant, has never been studied.

Dr. Robert Sears points out in his article published in the Jan/Feb '08 issue of Mothering Magazine that babies receive roughly 250 to 1300 mcg of injected aluminum at 2, 4 and 6 months each, based on the combination of vaccine brands that are administered. Again roughly 250to 1300 mcg while the FDA recommends that premature babies and those with impaired kidney function receive no more that 25 mcg through IV administration in one day.

The amount of antigen is irrelevant when we have no idea, based in science, what type of damage this level of aluminum (a know toxin intended to stimulate the immune system) may have on the underdeveloped immune system of an infant.

Good Luck putting parents concerns to rest Dr. Jenkins...what a joke.

Renee, do you not read medical studies?! are you so blind that anything that is even remotely critical of you precious poisons is ignored?! ignorance may very well be bliss for you...but to those parents (like myself) that have very sick children it's not very blissfull!
What about the asthma study you idiot?
What about the aluminum studies?
you're pathetic and you will soon be in the minority as our politicians, doctors and parents begin to see your organization for the pharma whores that you are.
enjoy hell renee!
