SAME OLD WINE IN BRAND NEW BOTTLES

"New Hints Seen That Red Wine May Slow Aging" -- Was this headline and story accorded the status of appearing on the front page of the New York Times on June 4 because it was solid news, or solid new scientific information? Evidently not; the word "May" says it all.

Was it placed there because, "On Monday, Sirtris, a startup founded in 2004 to develop drugs with the same effects as resveratrol (an ingredient in some red wines), completed its sale to GlaxoSmithKline for $720 million," and the Times thinks when a big enough chunk of money changes hands, it outweighs lack of scientific proof? (It wouldn't be the first time that money trumps science.)

Or does the Times assume our human vanity, the near-universal fear of aging and death that drives the interest in living longer, warrants front-page status?

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

Happy Father's Day to the Dads who've stuck by their kids and their wives. To the single Dads who do it all and who work overtime for their children. To the Grandfathers who donate their time and money and knowledge to help their grandchildren. To the men who've learned now to make killer GFCF smoothies and who are willing to wake up at 1:00am to administer MB12 shots when Mom can't bear to do it. To the men who hold onto their child during a meltdown - while Mom grabs the activated charcoal. To the men who miss T-ball and soccer practices, instead going to speech therapy and social skills groups. To the men who have not given up hope that one day, they will get that kiss from their son or daughter, and so much more.

Thank you to The National Autism Association for this beautiful ad. And thank you to all of you Fathers.

NEWS FROM THE FRONT: THE NEW YORK RALLY

Hundreds of parents converged on Albany, the capital of New York, on Tuesday to demand a philosophical exemption to mandated vaccines and to protest a group of bills that would radically expand the number of vaccines required by children, and shift authority over vaccine rules from the state government to an obscure federal committee.

Buses arrived from as far away as Suffolk County on Long Island to Rochester in the far west of New York who chanted "My Kids My Choice."

After a press conference, chanting and lobbying activists converged on a meeting of the Assembly Health Committee where several vaccine bills were slated for discussion. Surprisingly, when several hundred organized, articulate determined parents showed up the vaccines bills were mysteriously dropped from the agenda.

MERCURY IN YOUR WATER? H2 OH NO!

AMHERST, Mass. – Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst have developed plastics containing “smart elements” that can instantly detect the presence of mercury at or below the drinking water standard set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, even when other metals are present in the solution.

“Mercury poisoning remains a significant threat to human health, and global mercury emissions continue to rise from incineration of solid waste and the combustion of fossil fuels,” says Gregory Tew, a professor of polymer science and engineering. “We used smart polymers to create inexpensive, portable and easy-to-use sensors that are a big improvement over current industrial approaches that use sophisticated equipment not suitable for field measurements.”

Mitchell was the smaller of my twin boys born at 36 1/2 weeks. I had a difficult pregnancy mainly complicated by preterm labor and was administered several medications to stop it. I also had a flu vaccine in my second trimester and again while I was nursing my boys when they were 8 months old.

Mitchell was a pretty miserable baby. He cried a lot, arched his back after nursing and had difficulty sleeping. He also developed eczema early on. None of this was alarming to us since this was almost identical to how our completely typical daughter was 2 years before. He seemed a little more fragile than his twin brother but the boys met milestones within days of each other. He learned to roll quickly and could enjoy a full night sleep when he was on his stomach. He was by far my most vocal baby. He could exchange babble with us with perfect eye contact and smiles for long stretches of time. He was very connected to us and loved to be carried around.

In the testimony of Drs. Catherine Lord and Eric Fombonne the government comes up against what I believe is the Achilles heel of the government’s assertion that vaccines have no connection to the autism epidemic.

Parents report changes in the children following a vaccination.  Animal and biological studies provide indications that mercury can have devastating effects on living organisms.  Medical professionals using vaccine-damage as a starting point to recover children make startling progress in some cases.  The government says all this is smoke without a fire.  Indeed, the government doesn’t even seem to think the ground is warm.

Personally, I think all of this evasion is starting to wear on the Special Masters.

Direct Examination of Dr. Catherine Lord

[Ms. Ricciardella]  Dr. Lord reviewed her qualifications as a clinical psychologist.  She is a professor of medicine at University of Michigan and directs its Autism and Communication Disorder Clinic.  She has received honors and has been on a committee of the Strategic Planning Committee for National Research on Autism under the Combating Autism Act.  Dr. Lord was involved in the formulation of the autism criteria for the DSM-IV and is working on the DSM-V.  She has been teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels for thirty-two years.  She lectures on autism; she works with a number of family-based groups.  She has diagnosed about 4,000 children and adults with autism in her career.  She is engaged in several research projects, including randomized control studies on behavioral intervention in autism and also a longitudinal outcome study.  She’s been researching autism for almost forty years.  She’s been studying regression since the 1980’s.  She has participated in drafting the diagnostic criteria for major inventories, including the ADIR and ADOS.  She’s published approximately 125 peer-reviewed articles, including some on regressive autism.  She’s an editor of several journals.

A PATCHINE FOR MONTEZUMA'S REVENGE?

SHOULD KIDS WITH AUTISM BE TREATED LIKE HUMANS? NBC WANTS TO KNOW!

More and more kids today have autism and NBC would like to know what the public thinks about having insurance cover autism treatment. You may be able to cast your vote HERE. The question should be on the right sidebar at the MSNBC site. It will move off soon, though.

Since I already took the poll and have seen the results, I can say that an overwhelming majority say yes coverage should be provided.

While that sounds fair and benevolent I wonder how the voting public would feel if they knew about the cost of the therapy.  Recently the issue has come up in several states.

VACCINE EXEMPTIONS: BLESSING OR CURSE?

From the Washington Post with the usual biostitutes (yes, Paul Offit, lean mean vaccine safety quote machine) talking about "public health." 

Regardless of the reason, the ranks of parents exercising nonmedical exemptions to vaccination are growing, public health officials say. Although the number remains small and involves an estimated 2 to 3 percent of the approximately 3 million children who start kindergarten annually, the trend alarms some experts. They worry that parents' fears are being stoked by misinformation about vaccines that abounds on the Internet and are using religion as an excuse to opt out of immunization. This refusal, scientists say, threatens a cornerstone of public health.

14 YEAR OLD PARALYZED: IS GARDASIL TO BLAME?

A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE RALLY

It's often amazing what you might see and hear while hanging around our nation's capital.

On April 4th of this year, Dan Olmsted wrote a piece for Age of Autism titled, "THE HEAD OF HHS SAID WHAT?" "The Head of HHS Said What?" In that piece he talked about a conversation he had over lunch with a friend who told him Mike Leavitt, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, acknowledged that mercury causes autism.   

On June 2nd, my wife, our son, our younger daughter and I were in D.C. for the Green Our Vaccines Rally. While there, we went out to dinner with an old friend and his family. While his neurotypical son patiently tried to communicate with our non-verbal son, my wife and I explained the purpose of our visit.

We detailed to them, again, that the vaccines and the toxic bouillabaisse brewed into them caused our son's autism, and there is indeed an epidemic of autism in the world, caused in large part by toxic vaccines. We told them the current CDC schedule is 37 injections before the age of five, and that one of one hundred and fifty kids gets autism and that one out of six children has some form of neurological damage. I said the government had to know and must be covering it up.

Guess what his response was: "Yeah, they know. Leavitt knows the vaccines are responsible."

HARVARD'S DR. BIEDERMAN AND DR. WILENS ON "THE TAKE" AT YOUR KIDS' EXPENSE?

This is a frightening glimpse into how opportunistic is the Psychiatric profession, which still controls autism treatment for many. Millions of American kids are on Prozac, Risperdal and other powerful drugs recommended by your neurologist, psychiatrist, developmental pediatrician, pediatrician every day for autism, ADHD, bi-polar and other diagnoses because so-called "world renowned" men like Harvard's Dr. Joseph Biederman are being paid consulting fees by the drug companies.  Is that the same as being on "the take?" Not necessarily. Decide for yourself. The NYT reports: 

A world-renowned Harvard child psychiatrist (Dr. Joseph Biederman and his colleague Dr. Timothy Wilens) whose work has helped fuel an explosion in the use of powerful antipsychotic medicines in children earned at least $1.6 million in consulting fees from drug makers from 2000 to 2007 but for years did not report much of this income to university officials, according to information given Congressional investigators.

WORLD MERCURY PROJECT ROLLS OUT THE TRUTH

I’ve had a chance to hang out for a while with World Mercury Project director Eric Gladen and his crew since the Green Our Vaccines rally and I’m here to tell you, they’re the real deal. DIABETES DEVOURS OUR KIDS. WHERE'S THE PANIC?

Diabetes is affecting American children at an alarming and increasing rate. Where is the AAP on this? Oh yes, fighting against organic baby formula , that's right.  This generation of children, the most heavily vaccinated in history, may well be the sickest. They are chronically ill with asthma, ADHD, learning disabilities, speech delays, life threatening or at least life altering food allergies and more.  How many parents live in fear of having their child sit next to a kid eating a PB&J? What a frightening way to live.

Lisa O’Donnell was in sheer panic, but Alan King didn’t understand.

To him, 6-year-old Kayle O’Donnell looked fine, eating chips at her desk. But to Mrs. O’Donnell, her diabetic daughter, all 46 pounds of her, was frighteningly pale.

A Lakeland School District nurse had been busy with another student, so when Mrs. O’Donnell heard Kayle was dizzy, she raced from her job at the high school.

By the time Kayle’s blood sugar was tested, it was at 21. Normal is 100. She should have been unconscious, if not in a seizure.

I’ve said it before, but there’s actually a part of me which feels sorry for the government attorneys who are defending the injection of mercury and live viruses into babies.

In the years to come this chapter of their lives will vanish from their resumes and when they’re old they’ll hope their obituaries don’t mention their participation with what the future will have clearly seen as the wrong side of history.

Rebuttal Examination of Dr. Richard Deth

Q:  [Mr. Williams] This will be the rebuttal of the testimony of the four different experts [ed.:  Drs. Jones, Roberts, Mailman and Johnson] that were called to critique your work.  First, let’s address Dr. Jones’ statements that glutathione is plentiful in the body and would overwhelm any mercury.
A:  I had a chance to review Dr. Jones testimony, and I indicated my respect towards his work.  The issue about how much glutathione is in the body vs. the amount of mercury in thimerosal is an issue of stoichiometry.  Thimerosal and mercury are not interacting stoichiometrically one for one with glutathione.  The ability of mercury to remain in the body and to enter the brain has been verified and shows that the vast amount of glutathione is not able to overwhelm this mercury; it’s there, and it causes effects.  Dr. Jones seemed to develop an argument that because there is so much more glutathione, it would swamp out the thimerosal or mercury.  But the number of proteins that eventually binds the mercury to the brain -- those targets exist in small quantities.  The more valid question that Dr. Jones didn’t raise is what is the proportion of those protein targets for mercury in the body to the mercury in thimerosal?  Is there enough mercury to saturate the body’s targets?

I contacted Mr. Barry Barnett about the Meadowood Lakes Homeowners Association report that a swingset for a child with autism was out of compliance with neighborhood rules, which do not allow outside play apparatus. Mr. Barnett was kind enough to send me this letter (below) to clarify the situation for our readers.

Autism brings with it myriad struggles and the Mom, Mrs. Chapek, who has CP, seems to have to bear more than most of us. Thank you, Mr. Barnett. We appreciate your work to help the Chapek family.

Late last year we took our son to a doctor who treats environmental toxicity and slowly as he gets cleaned out he is making progress, taking new steps. Literal steps. We can ask him to go upstairs and get his shoes on and he does. We don't have to follow him to the closet to make sure he gets there and gets it done.

He used to have eight bowel movements a day. Since he started treatment he usually has one or two. He seems more focused. His pediatrician who has known him since he was diagnosed saw him earlier this month for his yearly check-up and pronounced him "a different child."

MOMENTS WHEN I FEEL GOD IS ALIVE AND AT WORK IN THE WORLD

I’m often accused of being an optimist that the truth about vaccines and autism will one day be revealed.

But even I was surprised at what I saw on CNN this week of the “Green Our Vaccines” rally in Washington, D.C. in front of the U.S. Capitol.  I saw coverage of Jim Carrey, one of the world’s biggest movie stars (and I always say, watch out for the funny guys, because when they decide to be serious they can break your heart), using unimaginably powerful rhetoric when he said something along the lines of, “I was once in a movie where I played one of two dumb guys, but even they wouldn’t fall for what the CDC is trying to make people believe.”

VACCINE INJURIES: BEYOND AUTISM

Yesterday, close to 10,000 families came to Washington, DC to join Jenny McCarthy, her son Evan and actor Jim Carey for the “Green Our Vaccines” Rally.  Many of these families have children who developed an autism spectrum disorder subsequent to a vaccine injury.  After marching from the Washington Monument to the Capitol grounds, these families participated in a rally to demand a safer vaccine supply and schedule. Many went on to meet with their elected officials to ask for their support on the issues.

Since the very first Congressional hearing looking at vaccine injuries, opponents to the vaccine safety discussion accused first Congressman Burton and then the families of the vaccine injured of being “Anti-Vaccine”.  These families would better be portrayed as “Anti-Injury.”

BARRY BARNETT OF BARNETT MANAGEMENT IN OHIO IS A JERK

There. That headline will torment Mr. Barry Barnett on his Google searches for a good long time.  Are you tired of kids with autism getting the short end of the stick? Read this story....

Mr. Barry Barnett is the head of Barnett Management, of Beachwood, Ohio. Barnett Management runs a neighborhood association for MEADOW LAKES in North Ridgeville, Ohio. Mr. Barnett is trying make a mother who has cerebral palsy take down her autistic son's swingset because "play apparatus" is not allowed in the neighborhood according to the association rules. Mom had gotten a verbal "go ahead" from a previous board.  Mom is unable to drive her son to the park.

FDA DECLARES MERCURY IN TEETH DANGEROUS

Surely the ADA and AAP are having a confab today on how to spin this news that (shock of all shocks) drilling mercury into human heads may cause neurological damage.  By the way, did your dentist ever tell you that the "silver" fillings were made from mercury? Of course not. Just as your pediatrician never told you he was injecting mercury into your infant. Nor does your OB tell you he is injecting mercury into you and your fetus. Hide. Deny. Spin. Lie. Oh, and first do no harm.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Silver-colored metal dental fillings contain mercury that may cause health problems in pregnant women, children and fetuses, the Food and Drug Administration said on Wednesday after settling a related lawsuit.
