From the Editor: Fat Chance

So now we're having a national debate, courtesy of Mayor Bloomberg, over super-sized sugary drinks and obesity. Fine, but what about a super-sized vaccine schedule and its effects on diabetes and obesity, for starters?

TUNE INTO IMUS NOW! HEALY AND ATTKISSON

Don

CBS was tipped off to cases as far back as 1991 where the gov't is paying families for brain damage for vaccine cases - the gov't is not tracking which of them would be called autism. Healy was shocked.

Tune in this morning to www.abcradio.com to listen to Don Imus live. He is having Dr. Bernadine Healy and Sheryl Atkisson from CBS on to discuss vaccines. Tentative time is 7:30am.

Points brought up right now live by Dr. Healy:

The Poling case is so important.

The principle of herd immunity drives vaccine thinking because of that there's a fear in public health community that people will stop getting vaccines.

Public Health officials feel: We are challenging something too important let's not do the studies or the science."

People would be surprised to know there are over 1300 cases awarded by vaccine court. We need to study that. The science hasn't been done.

The research on this (mercury in vaccines) is scant. NIH study in primates showed ethyl mercury left more mercury in the brain.

We're afraid to do the research.

Sheryl Attkisson is now on.

Poling case piqued Healy's curiosity.

She realized that we weren't getting the full story for the last decade.

She had a sense of outrage.

Medical voices saying the same thing and easy to paint them with the same brush. When she says something like this agreeing with people are are considered off center it means something.

CBS news was very interested in pursuing any story that has merit and value and people would be interested.

No causal evidence. Dr. Healy pointed out that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

She believes they (gov't) haven't looked because people would stop vaccinating.

Vaccination doesn't have to be all or nothing. There's something in between if you can identify if there are susceptible children.

Dr. Healy expressed herself as very pro-vaccine. She was surprised about things (studies) that haven't been done. Like on self-selected kids in the vaccine court. Find things that make them susceptible so side affects from vaccines.

Kathy, I feel almost exactly the way you do. I had a rough weekend with my son, who is currently doing much better (big sigh of relief) after deciding to swallow some rocks last week. I was quite outraged by the hidden NIH members and their refusal. But, I had another thought; Dr. Healy, that lovely, incredible woman, had the decency, the morality, to step forward and tell us what happened. That takes a lot of courage, particularly considering the upcoming smear campaign that is bound to happen. I think, though, that her voice is going to be a rallying point for people like us and doctors who are afraid to speak up (they are out there). This is a huge step for us, and the feeling of vindication that I got after hearing her echo the words that so many of us say nearly every day was a huge boost to my spirits. I feel renewed, and I am ready to continue this fight, despite these hidden jerks who don't want us to help our kids.

You know, I wish I could be happy about the CBS report ... I probably would be happy if I didn't feel so sick to my stomach. I wish the assholes from NIH that specifically told people not to look into the subset of children who might be adversely affected by vaccinations ... I wish they could have been at my house this morning to see how their negligence has affected our family. I'm so angry mad right now ... for me and all the 1-90 boys who might be banging their heads against a wall somewhere. Criminal.

Great job CBS. I don't understand one thing - how come CBS knew to ask Dr. Healey the pertinent questions when the other moronic media simply keeps quoting Offit and Gerberding and the AAP stooges? How come CBS is the only, the only, news station out there that knows who to ask? Will someone please clear this up for me?

I can't wait for the other court decisions to come out. Will these families be willing to do press conferences so that the country *knows* what vaccines do, so that there is a greater sense of outrage. Outrage is needed bigtime. Diplomacy be d***ed, we need ruckus too. We need ruckus so that diplomacy is forced to do its work.

To borrow from the brilliant Jane Johnson, "Do you think Dr. Offit finds Dr. Healy endearing today?" And do you think his book publisher is thinking of stopping the presses. Straight to the remainders pile with his self-aggrandizing, self-protective prose, I say.
