I actually attended the wood county group. They had educators, some medical professionals and parents. What they did in the parent group is ask 10 questions and then give each parent a chance to answer. it was good in the fact that it was very obvious that there are huge gaps in services and diagnosis. However there was a woman next to me who was a pharmacist and was bashing bio-med and my blood was boiling. It was not the venue for that discussion. Although I know that parents stories are important and we all like to tell "our story" people got WAY too caught up in telling their story and not focusing on the problems at hand. By the way, Mr. Farkas is not a doctor - he is just the project coordinator. I think it is a good thing - let's just hope that good things really come from it. We also had the Ohio Autism Task Force a few years back and not a whole lot has changed since then.

"As far as treatment, I would encourage all pediatricians to read the following books:"

What's the world coming to - parents telling pediatricians what books they should read in order that they can treat the kids they have vaccine injured in the first place.

This is all backwards. Nice job peds.

Oops, what an idiot -- I called him "Mr." but he is probably "Dr.". So much for encouraging him to listen!

Whenever I post anything I am either making myself late to work, neglecting my family, or staying up too late, and it is so hard to proof as well as I ideally should. So far I have not yet said that "autism causes vaccines" but it is only a matter of time. I think I did once say that vaccines cause vaccines. Oh, well...

I cannot go to Ohio, but I emailed Dr. Farkas:

Dear Mr. Farkas,

It is wonderful that the Ohio AAP is implementing the Autism Diagnosis Education Pilot Project. In addition to focusing on early diagnosis, I hope that the AAP will also focus on the following two very important topics:

- How to treat the medical conditions which so often co-occur with autism, such as digestive and immune system disorders, and

- How to decrease the chance of vaccine reactions, for example by not giving multiple vaccines at once, not using vaccines containing thimerosal, and consideration of the risks as well as benefits of vaccines. Do we really need to give so many so soon?

Although agencies such as the CDC continue to be in denial mode, so many parents report that their children's regressive autism began after experiencing adverse reactions to vaccines. Reactions such as febrile seizures are acknowledged by the CDC as caused by vaccines, but when the seizures are followed by regression into autism we are told it's "just a coincidence".

Interestingly, veterinarians and pet owners have been reporting the same kinds of medical conditions following vaccines as have parents of human children, such as: inflammatory bowel disorders, seizures, encephalitis, auto-immune diseases, hypothyroidism, eczema, susceptibility to infections, chronic ear infections, and behavioral issues. (See my 5/6/2008 article at www.ageofautism.com/2008/05/veterinarian-wi.html).

Concerns about vaccines are not only in relation to autism, but also other disorders of the immune system. This Washington Post article documents the increased rates of many immune system disorders in children including asthma, allergies, diabetes, autoimmune disorders... www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/03/03/AR2008030303200_pf.html "First, asthma cases shot up, along with hay fever and other common allergic reactions, such as eczema. Then, pediatricians started seeing more children with food allergies. Now, experts are increasingly convinced that a suspected jump in lupus, multiple sclerosis and other afflictions caused by misfiring immune systems is real." As far as why these increases are occurring, vaccines are the overlooked "elephant in the room". Isn't it plausible that we are over-provoking the developing immune system of babies and children when we give over two dozen vaccines by the age of two, and another dozen or so before kindergarten?

The safety of the long-term cumulative effect of our current vaccine schedule, and of ingredients such as aluminum and thimerosal, has not been adequately studied. These problems are not going to go away. The more vaccines we add, the higher the number of affected children.

As far as treatment, I would encourage all pediatricians to read the following books:
Changing The Course Of Autism - A Scientific Approach for Parents and Physicians – by Bryan Jepson, M.D. with Jane Johnson; foreword by Katie Wright
Children with Starving Brains: A Medical Treatment Guide – By Jaquelyn McCandless, M.D.
Healing the New Childhood Epidemics – Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies – By Kenneth Bock, M.D. and Cameron Stauth

Thank you so much for reading this email, and for your work on behalf of autistic children and their families.

Sincerely,

Twyla Ramos

Why don't they just go to the Physicians training at an autism conference? If they were serious about learning they would do that. Why these useless eyewashes of events? Where do the resources for these things come from?

Maybe they are flush with funds because Autism Speaks in a fit of *rare* remorse decided it had done a BAD thing by taking the community's money away and wanted to give it back to them LOL. Hey AS, I could use some money for my kid's supplements!!
