The MMR & Autism: Dr. Andrew Wakefield's General Medical Council Hearing – An On-Site Report from London

In 1998, Dr. Wakefield and colleagues published a research paper in The Lancet that sparked questions about the safety of the MMR, and which subsequently caused a huge impact in the UK, resulting in a decline in vaccination rates. The General Medical Council is currently conducting an inquiry into alleged professional misconduct by Dr. Wakefield under a number of specific allegations relating to the conduct of and context of the research.  However, many parents of children with autism feel very differently about the importance of such research and they are expected to be gathered outside the GMC in London on Thursday, March 27, as what is becoming one of the longest cases in GMC hearing history moves into its final phase. Autism One Radio’s Polly Tommey will be on-site in the UK, placing the case in the context of the published facts to-date, reporting back on the scene, and canvassing the views of those in attendance.

Hello Polly,

I always feel the urge to respond to anything you send out to me and so here are my comments on the MMR issue. Out of the 60 or so children with autism that I have come into contact with a handful of those parents believe adamantly that their child changed overnight after the jab. It has not been all parents and therefore the ones that speak out I happen to believe are telling the absolute truth and there is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that a percentage have definately suffered as a result of the vaccine.

We are in New Zealand, our child with ASD was born in 1994 and regressed into ASD after his MMR with all the syptomns you describe in your work - he is greatly improved today - we are so grateful to yourself and to others who have listened and have offered some alternative ways of treating what we see essentially as a medical issue, ASD seems to be a excuse for somewhere to put all our kids - have just read Dr Rimlands book Dyslogic, he lists a group of medical treatments which are mainstream treatments today - we know that your work will be listed amongst those someday - seems like to stand for anything often means standing alone with great animosity - we are watching closely your courtcase and are sending you good thoughts from downunder - don't think field of physcology has ever been right when it comes to unexplained medical conditions - they seem to be the dumping ground for society! and then make a fortune out of explaining how they were wrong but now are so sure they are right!! Go figure - we salute you!

It is my wish and my most fervent prayer that the evil forces that are out there trying to malign Dr. Wakefield will pay dearly for what they have done to him and his family - and by extension, to many thousands if not millions of kids out there. I hope that evil has its just reward!
