From the Editor: Making waves

David Kirby's next book, "Death at Sea World," isn't out till July but already there are two petitions against it. You know, don't buy it, don't read it, don't believe it. Kinda familiar, eh?

American Media, Meet Dr. Richard Halvorsen...

Jb By J.B. Handley

...And, for the sake of our kids, let your readers know what he’s saying.

Dr. Richard Halvorsen’s new book, The Truth About Vaccines, continues to make big news in the United Kingdom.

If you were the average American parent, you wouldn’t know it.

A quick search of Google News using the name “Richard Halvorsen” reveals articles in most of the UK’s major newspapers, and not a single mention in the United States media.

Not one!* See editors note at bottom of article.

SOMETHING is causing autism. Pesticides?

Thank you to Anne Dachel for forwarding us this article from the LA Times.  Are pesticides related to the surge in autism in California?

You can read the full article here.

The two sides of the autism debate,"Genetics" and "Environment" will likely find an overlap at the end of the day. The majority of the Environment crowd think that something pregnant women and their infants are exposed to is triggering a genetic predisposition. The pure genetics crowd would have us believe autism has always been with us in these numbers and is simply better diagnosed today. I believe they will be proven wrong, as soon as the major research organizations, like Autism Speaks/NAAR, start putting their money where their mouth is and support true environmental research.

When Words Take On New Meaning

Cathy_jameson By Cathy Jameson

I walked into the autism and mercury-poisoning world blind, completely blind.  My early childhood teaching background barely touched on how to work with special needs children, let alone a disorder that can and will deteriorate the whole body.  A brief history of autism, to catch one up to speed, is that it affects the neurological, immune and gastrointestinal systems and strikes one in ten thousand. Oh, wait, that statistic was from the 1990s.  I meant autism strikes one in five hundred, no…one in 166 …let me check the stats again...it’s down to 1 in 150 children diagnosed with autism! It wasn’t that long ago that you barely heard a whisper of autism, saw a child or adult with the disorder and now, it’s all over the news, parenting magazines and fundraising circuits.

I still won’t admit that my child has regressive autism. I think it’s an absolute injustice to use that term with my son.

Mercury, It's What's for Dinner

Thanks to Anne Dachel for bringing this to our attention.  British Petroleum is able to LEGALLY dump small amounts of mercury into Lake Michigan.

"Although the federal government ordered states more than a decade ago to dramatically limit mercury discharges into the Great Lakes, the BP refinery in northwest Indiana will be allowed to continue pouring small amounts of the toxic metal into Lake Michigan for at least another five years....."

The entire Chicago Tribune Report is here.  Fried Walleye for dinner anyone?

An Open Letter to the World on Autism

Kent_heckenlively By Kent Heckenlively, Esq.

When I was young my Sicilian mother always said that if anybody ever harmed me she’d take a gun, shoot the SOB right between the eyes, and gladly spend the rest of her life in jail for doing it.  Her comment made everybody in my family laugh because of the Italian passion with which she said it, but it also underscored the absolute importance she placed on protecting her children.

Bush's Family Values....

Thank you to the Autism Research Institute for alerting the autism community to the President Bush's change of heart on banning mercury in vaccines. The Lame Duck makes our kids Sitting Ducks.

Bush Set to Veto Bill Removing Vaccine Mercury
Parents urged to Contact White House

Washington, DC - According to the Congressional Quarterly, the White House stated July 17th that President Bush would veto the HHS-Labor-Education Appropriations Bill because of the cost and "objectionable provisions" such as a measure to ban the use of childhood flu vaccines that contain thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative.

Merck's Hilleman Underestimated Toxicity to Children

From U. of Kentucky biochemist and mercury toxicity expert Dr. Boyd Haley:

To All:  Regarding the Hilleman memo, it contains a dramatic mistake.  He calls (top page 2) thimerosal “the sodium salt of a phenolic acid with a thiol-ethyl-mercury side chain.”  It is actually a benzoic acid, not a phenolic, derivative and this makes a world of difference.

Merck Questioned Thimerosal in 1989

This internal Merck memo is making the rounds of the autism lists. It seems European countries and Japan began questioning the amount of Mercury in Merck vaccines back in 1989. Merck started looking into whether the mercury levels were dangerous either physically, or "potentially" which sounds like the legal team stepped in from minute one.

Congratulations on your new baby! And Welcome to the War on Disease!

By Julie Obradovic

We're the CDC and we'd like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves. We'll be working closely over the next several years, and we need to get acquainted more quickly than you think!

Our job as the Center for Disease Control is to control infectious disease as well as possible. We believe that while nutrition and sanitation have substantially reduced the level of infectious disease in our world, the most important tool in doing so has been herd immunity via vaccinations. Admittedly, we have no proof to substantiate this. (For example, the Measles was 97% eradicated by the time the vaccine was developed.)

By now, your brand new little soldier may have already received his or her first piece of equipment (a vaccination) without you even knowing it!
